more ideas

so while I am brainstorming...anybody ponder the idea of simply making a universal conversion hub with a passive bearing that would fit an ATV wheel.......those have awesome looking wheels and any tire imaginable for all conditions...I would buy a set of hubs right now...well soon anyways....it seems as though buggy stuff is kinda proprietary and it doesn't need to be,,,,

oh wow look at this i just answered my own question

and now I am bored with wheels....by the way I saw Dagon do 52mph on barrows

Would there be any benefit of having a live axle on a kitebuggy? Just a random thought.

I saw all kinds of that stuff on my search to our local "if we don't have it, you don't need it" man-store and had the same thoughts. Why not a full axle assy for DIY utility trailers? Is it because there is no camber? (I thought I had seen somewhere camber was good if not required.)

[Edit: Just checked.....the full axle assy weighs 50lbs to begin with...THAT could be why it isn't done....]

We have been searching for some nice wheels for our buggies as well and have looked into a bunch of the ATV wheels, also looked into the golf cart wheels. Problem....most of these wheels are ver deep dish, usually around 8 to 10" deep which I think is kinda kewl really but that would put a ton of force on the center spindle setup. Even so you can get some really good high strenght bearings and make it work.

Second problem is that the wheels would be great for the rear axle but how do you mount them on the front with the spindle? The spindle would need to be mounted off-set and not centered in the front fork which would cause some problems, the other thing is that one side is finished, the other side is nasty ugly. The buggy would look ok from one side (although the wheel on the front would be super deep dished) but from the other side the front wheel would look nasty.

Kinda frustrating that you can find 10" deep dish 8" billet aluminum machined mag wheels for a golf cart for 70 bucks each, but to have a smaller wheel made for a buggy the price heads upwards to 190.00 ea.... We have even discussedd getting the 10" wheels and chopping about 5 inches out of the center and rewelding them back together. Still got the ugly side/nice side problem tho...

Theres gotta be a good medium somewhere. :)

Take inspiration from my Honda VFR and flip it - single sided fork baby! Oh yeah!

Why not just a motorcycle front wheel?
