I have not put anything out in the yard yet. The house is still boarded up upstairs. I am starting to clean up all the tree limbs. Right now it doesn not look good for Houston/Galveston.

Man alive. You know, I have a boatload of respect for all of you that live in these "danger zones". I visited an aunt down in Venice FL and was amazed at how beautiful it was yet how terrifying it must be if and when danger starts to draw near. I assume that's the price you pay? I know I'd choose to stay prepared and proactive against weather in exchange for living in such beautiful places but is that alone enough? Do you all lose friends and neighbors routinely because they grow tired of the threat and move inland? Just curious. Thoughts and prayers for all of you.

Hey Aj

I hope the boat move goes smoothly. I have 5 homes and a business that I have not unboarded yet for my clients. We're going to wait till Wednesday to decide.

For all others who don't live on the gulf I guess you have to take the good with the bad. To have our buggy areas on the gulf is sure sweet. I hope Ike doesn't mess Galveston and the surrounding area up too bad. I really would like to have DBBB this year!

Best of luck AJ

But on the bright side... It DOES NOT SNOW here in the hurricane areas!!!!!!! :singing::singing::singing:

Models have bounced all over the place on this one since it was in the Atlantic.

I vote for it to go to the King Ranch. Not a lot of population in that area, unless you count cows. Although that would give Corpus a good soaking.

I'm giving it one more day before I decide if I need to climb my trees and top them out. Hate it when holes get poked in the roof when it's rainin...

the latest track shows it going more west than north.
hope it misses you guys.
last weekend i got hit with the TS. over 7 inches of rain.
luckly i had no damage but i did have my gen. ready for my sump pump.
a few weeks ago i took my old car out for a spin and got hit with a storm. i had to pull over. the car don`t drive to good in the rain with 2.75 inch tires and only 1, 8inch wiper blade. i called my buddy to tow me home.
stay safe down there and be careful.

I'd hate to have to be the one who makes the call to move people or not.

Everyone likes to say "But the models all point to....... (insert town here)".

The 10am report today and the 10am 3 day report from Wednesday the week Rita hit are eerily similar. All the models started to focus in on one spot. Both storms were within a half a degree of long/lat of each other, and both have a ground zero on the NHC's maps within a few miles of each other. Both have computer models that all have come together...

I'm not holding my breath on the models being right this time either. I was without power for a week after Rita and was lucky that was all the damage I had to live through. Started topping some of my trees yesterday and will be up in the air again today after work. Storm surge and rain are not my enemies where I'm at... it's all the trees in the forrest.

Now if the ten pm report tonight moves the target near Houston... it will be one of those Deja Vu momements :o

Wally werld was full of people buying canned goods and things at 5am this morning. Figured I'd better get stocked up, since I'm an Entergy customer. After all... someone doesn't cover their mouth when they sneeze in Beaumont and my power goes out near Conroe.

canned goods: check

Beer: CHECK

Yup... prepared as I'll ever be. Just glad I'm out of the tidal areas... but even 80 miles inland it still can get a little hairy when your surrounded by trees :bird:

Hope your boat rides it well. My parents had a boat at Watergate when Alicia came through ( a cat 3) and it survived with only minor damage from flying debri. It's not the wind I fear... it's what's in it!

18 wheelers with food and all the gear are arriving today for the place I work at. They are going to 24 hour emergency mode as well. Only good thing about a storm is all my meals at work are catered in starting tomorrow at lunch until the disaster recovery mode is suspended.

I hope that all stay safe and make it through a ok. We are preparing the shelter up here in Oklahoma City for evacuees of the storm once again. From what I saw after the last storm they did a great job up here taking care of the evacuees. They will be safe up here, but the models they are showing on the weather channel say we are to get like 8-12 inches of rain and high winds in in Oklahoma City from the storm so folks that come here will not be totally out of the storm, but will be safe and have a warm bed and warm food. Be safe down there for sure.

Howdy folks,

Looks like trouble here soon, i am located at transtar with 300+ people that are going to weather the storm and provide support to the region. You probally will not here from me or other houstonian for the next few days due to damage and towers down. I will try to text after landfall to let u know how we stand. Looking at surge 20+ ft so we are ewxpecting to lose over 200,000 homes. Take my warning and fill everything you have with fuel. Prices are going thru the roof soon after the refiners are wipped. This goes for everyone nationwide. Take care and hope to fly with yall soon.,.......aj

Thanks for the update AJ. I have been watching the weather channel and they keep talking storm surge and they need to explain the big waves that will be on top of the storm surge. I sure feel for everyone that is effected with this storm. It looks like Galveston does not have a chance.

Let us know when you can how you are and how the surrounding area made out.

Take care AJ, Susan, Raymond, Brad, Pat, Terry, Dave, Charles, Tinker, Chris, Rick & Sara, Pat and after Ike passes be sure to let us know you’re OK. All of my relatives in your area have evacuated and their homes are boarded up. I remember the drill, first board up the windows, then remove anything around the place that could blow away, get somewhere safe, wait for the storm to hit (that’s when we used to have the hurricane parties as a stress reliever), weather the storm, then the heart break of seeing your home/boat/belonging damaged or gone. You guys will definitely be in my prayers, and remember you can get new stuff but buggiers are hard to replace. Stay Safe…………..

We should be ok here in Louisiana. We are far enough away and all we are going to get is rain, wind and the potential for twisters. They are also talking about low lying flooding in the area.

Hey Jon

You still got the drill down. Glad your family got out. It does not look good with the storm surge.

Hey Glenn

The pass has been under water all day and we hope that there will be lots of wide open spaces after the storm.

Susan (npw goddess)

PS Glenn

You are falling behind when it comes to nasa wings. I made an 8 meter for me and finishing up a 10 meter today for Brad. About a month ago Brad was able to pick up a used 15 meter. You need to catch up. Now AJ will have some competition.
