pansh questions

i do not care much for pansh, i would rather fly somthing of better quality like ozone. but i would love to get my father into a power kite.
ever since i can remember my dad has had a stunt kite in his hands. he taught me when i was just four to fly.
then when i moved to the nw coast at 18 i picked up power kites, and am now hooked.
i would love to return the favor to my dad and get him in to power kites, but in the three years i have been at the coast he still hasnt picked one up. he just cant afford a sport like this.
so to my question,
in the choppy winds of nebraska what should i recomend to him for a pansh kite or something in the cheaper range, also i am worried about him learning i got him a little 2 line 1.5 for fathers day. so he has been pulled a little bit. but i will not be there till december to help him out.
so i need a stable pansh, if they make such a thing, also i dont want it to rip in half the third time he flies it like mine did, if that is possible. he is 250lbs

I've flown my 3m Legend for a while now. I find that it is a good kite for the price however it does not like gusts. I find when a big gust hits, it overflies at the zenith, luffs and possibly bowties. I've developed good reflexes on the brake lines to prevent this, but it can be frustrating at times. I had a chance to fly a 3m Beamer right next to my Legend in very gusty winds and the Beamer was much more stable. So I guess you give up a bit stability for a cheaper kite.

I love it ... you don't like pansh ... but its all you can afford.

Thats EXACTLY what pansh is all about. A decent kite that is affordable.

i will never buy a pansh again!!! i cant afford to buy pansh becase they dont last, i would rather spent the extra 2 or 3 hundred to get a kite that will fly. and i will have for 5 to 10 years not 5 to 10 flights
however i cant afford one for my dad and he cant afford one for himself, but i think he needs to get drug around a bit

that's sad that you had such a poor experience with your pansh kite. I think that there are ups and downs with each kite. i have even talked with people who are completely 100% against BEST kites because one of theirs ripped in half. To tell you the truth kiteon, i have never heard about one ripping in half until your story! It's a big bummer you had such a poor experience :( . They're great kites for the price. Thanks man.

Thats messed up ... I would never give something to my father that I wouldn't fly myself.

Plus the way kites improve and change every year now who wants to keep a kite for 5-10 years.

This has happened a few times. Sthrasher's Blaze blew up at NABX. Fortunately he bought from Dakitze and was covered

The Legend is a low lift kite similar to the Beamer. I quite enjoy it despite the luffs in gusty winds. And it is pretty durable I have to say (mine is anyway) it has been smashed to hell by friends and family and it's still in one piece. Whenever it does decide to bite the dust I will most likely replace it with another Legend. No opinion on the Blaze though - haven't flown one - just heard that it's got a bit more lift than the Legend.

Don't get him something he isn't going to use more than a few times because he has trouble with it or it bowties if he does this or doesn't do that. I couldn't more strongly recommend the Beamer for what you and he want. A stable fun kite that will drag him around and he can just have fun with without having to compensate for anything. A 2m would save some money and still give that pull. That's what I'm thinking of getting my dad.

5-10 years for a kite? You'll have to talk to the buggiers here in Vegas that are still using their Sky Tigers (out of production for quite a few years now)....or the guys that are still flying their Little Devils (5-6 year old kite that still rocks like the day it was made) etc...etc... :) They have got plenty of years of use out of those kites and are not complaining at all. Even in our harsh desert conditions quality will last but poor quality will end up in the trash after one or two flights. Nothing wrong with buying a kite that will last you for years and years...unless you have too much money lying around and can afford to buy a new kite every 2-3 months. Most of us have to budget our expenses a little more than that and I personally want quality over quantity. It seems to be less expensive in the long run.

I find it a little funny that one person wouldn't buy a pansh kite for themselves because of the poor experience and poor quality but then would turn around and want to get one for their father who they are trying to get into the sport....what do you think your father will think of the cost of this sport if he blows up his pansh kite in the first couple flights? If you get him a quality kite and it lasts him for a couple years I think he will agree that the cost of this sport really isn't that bad. I am sure you can find a good quality Ozone or HQ on the used market for near the price of a pansh that you will need to fix the bridles and then upgrade the lines/handles to make it fly right. Just my opinion is all...

The happiness you get from buying cheap kites only lasts for a very short time until they blow up and end up being garbage. Been there...done that...learned my lesson.

we had a vender come into the shop trying to have us sell his kites, when he told us the price i was stoked. all i had at the time was a 2m ozone fury and needed somthing else.
so i gave in and bought a 3m pansh blaze for 100 bucks with lines and handles. i was going to go for more on the spot. i questioned going for one ozone or a whole quiver of pansh for about the sme price.
first flight: i took the kite out and lanched it. it did fly great but not enough pull it was blowing 15-18 onshore. so i hopped in the buggy and took it for a ride. it wasnt much better than my 2m would have been that day in the buggy.
second flight: so i tryed again in more wind it was blowing 20 or so and i lanched it and got into the buggy, took a couple of runs and my roomate came out and waved me down. pulled my kite out of the sky and said it was shaking and did not look safe. so to get the pull out of the thing i had to fly it in the highest of winds but the kite just couldnt handle it. so the kites are good if you want to get out and just cruize but for speed runs and that they dont work.
third time i took it out was 18-22 and the thing launched and ripped apart right down the middle seam.
i dont know if it was a defect or the wind i flew it in or what. i did have a bad first experience with pansh but i will give them anouther chance. i dont need a kite right now but my dad dose. i was thinking that this brand may be good for him.

Ted still has Profoils -A 3.5 for $105 is cheap and a great price. I personally found it to bowtie more than a Beamer would. If price is the bottom line -I would take this over a Pansh.
However, The Beamer is the most stable all around kite of the bunch.

Kiteon, when did your dad start flying stunters? I can still recall buying T.O.L. kites (North Shore, Team kites), Phantoms for around 2-3 hundred each back in the eighties. The Magnum Opus was closer to 5 hundred. Kites evolve and R&D plus the market drive the price. Don't scimp on quality.

With that said we all have a brand that we perfer over another. I would never recommend a brand that I would not fly myself, be it pansh, ozone, hq, prism, etc.

Not jumpin on ya, but from personal experience we can have our written word misunderstood all to easily.

Hope your dad enjoys his new kite.

i disagree, pansh isn't a decent kite...look on jellis's list....get the beamer...anything but "one of those"

again...sory if anyone's toes get stepped on. I've seen over 50 bad pansh kites with POED fliers attached to them come through here....

I'd like to see sky tiger make a come back:wee:

My blaze that I got as a second kite wasn't a bad kite. It wasn't really well engineered and the handles were unusable. the lines were not worthy of this industry. It was fun before I knew better, but I wouldn't bother unwinding one today. They do have their place in the industry and marketplace. It is the same place the bargain car makers are in that market. Not many people brag about the performance or industry leading styling, but they are proud as heck of what they paid for it. I want my kite's performance to make me grin. A good deal can't do that unless the kite can do it on its own.
