Ask and ye shall receive....

I just wanted to share my good fortune with you in case it might inspire some of you thinking about trying things out to give this a go. Next to eBay I've been known to have a soft spot in my heart for CraigsList and Kijiji and have used them quite a bit for both buying and selling. Well, last night I put a post up on Kijiji saying that I was looking for an old school snowboard and would be willing to pay up to $50 for the right board.

Well, today I got TWO emails. I jumped (perhaps prematurely) on the first one and after a trip out to the north side of the city was heading home with a 150cm Lamar w/o bindings for the low low price of $30. Thing is, I had already committed to this one when this other person emailed me and said "I have EXACTLY what you're looking for". Well, how could I not, right? Sure enough, a 155 OLD OLD school Burton. The kicker? She let me have it for $20 AND delivered it! Now I can suck the brother in law into trying it too!

I like Kijiji.

I just posted some ads yesterday on Kijiji for selling my tubes.

Received 2 offers yet saying in a very bad FRENCH, they will pay me more with certified check, bla bla bla, the same bull#@%$#! on ikitesurf. Be aware of scammers when you post ad there.

I agree buzz. I frequently get scammers contacting me while selling stuff on craigslist. I get a LOT of people saying "Do you still have item? get back to me with firm price" then you email them and they come back and say something like "i would like to purchase this as a birthday gift for my son, he's in africa and i am working in the UK I will send you $100 for shipping" lol!!!! Anyways. long story short, yeah you just have to be careful ;)

I think it's similar to skis but I don't really know either to be honest. A few years ago (ten or more I guess) the ski world was revolutionized by parabolic (hourglass) shaped skis which made carving a dream. Hence - "old school" skis IMO have minimal hourglass shape to them. I suspect the same changes occurred in the snowboard world but don't know for sure. The board I ended up with is about 5cm narrower at the "waist" than at the tips.

Truly, I think the difference in snowboards comes more from their intended use - mountain cruising or park freestyle. More hourglass is preferred in the parks I think....makes sense if what I understand about snowkiting is accurate - ie: you want minimal sidecut.
