FOR THE GUYS DEALING PETER LYNN GEAR

I AM THE ONLY GUY FLYING CLOSED CELL LOCALLY EVERYONE (AND I MEAN EVERYONE ELSE FLIES TUBES). THE CLOSEST WOULD BE TRIDUDE CHAS.

I AM FIRST OUT IN LIGHT STUFF AND HOLD THE SAME KITE ALL DAY LONG NO MATTER WHAT IT BLOWS. THE LONG FLOATS CERTAINLY GETS THERE ATTENTION. THEY 'RE PUMPIN', CHANGING RIGS, FLYING DEAD STRUTS AND SLOW LEAKS, DUNKING RIGS AND OVERFLIES. THESE ARE SEASONED PILOTS 5+ YRS. AND THEY HAVE MAD SKILLS. I WATCH ALL THIS WHILE I RIDE.

I AM COMPLETELY SOLD ON THESE KITES. I GET ALOT OF QUESTIONS. I WANT TO GIVE BETTER DIRECTION.
THIS IS THE TIME FOR "ICON FIXATION" TO MOVE THIS TUBE CROWD TO CLOSED CELL RIDERS.

EVEN A CABRINHA DEALER (WHO I RIDE WITH DAILY) THAT WATCHED ME BECOME A "RIDER" FROM A COMPLETE ZERO.
SAID "YOU SHOULD ADVERTISE FOR THESE KITES". THIS WAS AFTER ABOUT 150 HOURS ON A VENOM. OVER PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS.

MY MIND IS NOT ON THE KITE WHILE RIDING AND THAT IS FREEDOM.

FLAG BANNERS, T-SHIRTS, STICKERS... SOMETHING, PETER MAYBE YOU SHOULD RING ME, I AM HERE TO HELP FOR FREE.

JUST DOING WHAT I LOVE YOU GUYS CAN GET SOMETHING FROM IT...GROWTH!

PEACE CHAD

Lots of misconceptions about them as well....they'll sink, they can't water relaunch, etc. etc.

...a good analog would be the whole Microsoft vs. Macintosh thing back in the day...it's the Marketing baby!

I HEAR YOU BROTHER, I DON'T NEED JUNK TO DRAG TO THE BEACH.
DIRECTION, STICKER FOR MY TRUCK, A CARD (LAMINATED) WOULD GET THE WORD OUT.
I'M RIDING THEY'RE POINTING, THAT DEMONSTRATES, BUT "REALLY" DOESN'T HELP GROW THE FOLLOWING. I HAD AN INSTRUCTOR TELL ME "GET A TUBE KITE" WHILE HIS NEW RIG WAS LEAKING DOWN AND I'M HOLDING IDLE A VINTAGE RIG IN THE AIR. PURE COMEDY

ANY WAY THERE JUNK WILL FADE AND NEED BLADDER NURSING AND I'LL STILL BE FLYING A MAINTENANCE-FREE-NEVER-FAIL-TO-LAUNCH SUPREME WIND TOOL.

Now now now... i love peter lynns i learnt on Guerilla 1s and then moved to venoms1/2s, lovely kites, no doubt but they aren't to everyone's taste and you should respect that, you're kinda bashing LEIs just the same as some of them bash Arcs/Closed Cells, have you given modern ones a try?

I'm not pimping anything, most people know by now that i'm a massive advocate for foils in general but i totally respect anyone's choices as to what they fly and won't try to convert anyone... I basically get annoyed by anyone who says one kite is better than the other, and there are plenty of them saying it on both sides of the fence. I try to take the Switzerland approach to this war. I can see where your frustration comes from however because there are plenty of times when people have been scared watching me take my kite up without much preinflation - one guy grabbed me by the harness ones because he thought my kite was out of control and i was like what the hell are you doing? I'm just launching?!! Lots of silly people thinking i can't relaunch as well mainly because i don't crash em very often and when i do they relaunch so fast no one even really notices... so yes, these are the truths i like to be revealed - but everyone riding foily kites? Nahh... who cares...

Most modern kites, whether inflatable, closed cell or anything else are pretty damned good, i just love kites.

NO WAR HERE, YES THE FLASH RELAUNCH IS WHAT I DISCOVERED, WHEN I WOULD DRILL MYSELF ON WATER RELAUNCH COUNT TO 10 AND IF THE LINE ISN'T IN AND THE TOP HAS HOOKED UP TROUBLE IS COMING,
SELF TAUGHT ON C-KITES AND DID FLY A BOW THROUGH THE SPRING. ALL VERY GOOD KITE AND AMAZED HOW EASY THEY ARE TO USE AND HOW VERY SAFE THEY ARE. AND IF THE BLADDER THING WASN'T PRESENT IT BE AN EQUAL CHOICE. THE SPEED AND POWER OF A C-KITE FOR THERE LIMITED RANGE IS VERY HARD TO BEAT.
ANY KITE THAT FLIES IS WINNER. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THEY WON'T FLY BECAUSE OF A DESIGN ISSUE LIKE BLADDER FAILURE.
CLOCKED MUCH TIME WITH HALF PUMPED, MISSING STRUTS, AND SLOW LEAKS TUBE KITES AND IT KILLS THE FREEDOM.
KNOWING THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE LEAD ME HERE AND YOU'RE RIGHT WHO CARES JUST MAKES MORE FLY SPACE FOR ME. MIGHT AS WELL SHOUT FOR A GREAT TIMELESS DESIGN THAT GIVES TO ME EVERYDAY.

Switch to open cell kites and learn not to crash :wee:

I'm still flying some of the same kites that I started with almost 10 years ago without even a line change. However, I dare you to find a flying Wipika made in circa 1998.

true about the taste comment Dom. Ive read the jelly fish comments, bad low end, etc but it all boils down to personal preference. Remember, all kite have limfacs. Ive enjoyed the FSers, bow/sle, and the Fuel, total different animals no doubt. Pumping isnt all that much of an issue, and with a repair kit can be fixed in a few minutes (leaks). So far my only issue with inflatables have been the pumps!!!! The FSer bridle thing is overstated in my opinion. I never had issues with bridles. FSers are bad ass kites. WHo knows with the Neo. I suspect some will be saying the same about the Neo in a few years time that is being said here about PL. I do hope the Neo takes off, it too is bad ass......

Charleston market will never change but I applaud your crusading effort. As you continue to log care free, maint free hours on your Lynns, some may follow, some will not. Bottom line is fly what you like and can afford................

totally right with the taste, total respect for choice

what i'm hearing is absence of choice, lack of knowledge,...

"i've never seen one of those before." , "what is that?!"

I DEMONSTRATE CHOICE. THESE GUYS HAVE SEEN ME FLY ALOT OF DIFFERENT KITES OLD C-KITES HIGH/ LOW ASPECT, TUBE SLE, FS, PL, (and as soon as i get the chance , speleopower, i'm coming down to COCO beach and add more choices) like the NEO totally fabulous kite LAND, WATER, THAT IS GIVING THE RIDER CHOICE. AND WATCHING ME DO A REVERSE LAUNCH (FS, NPW) TOTALLY BLOWS THERE MINDS.

FEAST ON THE WIND WITH LOTS DIFFERENT RIGS.

feasting on choices

Switch to open cell kites and learn not to crash

Although I love my Peter Lynn's I am tempted to try this....simplicity at it's finest. Quick setup times, etc. etc.

I actually did try this when we went to Lake Isabella. Little cove...very gusty conditions...would not have felt safe putting up my PL so I got on my 11ft longboard and put up my 3.5 Cult. Didn't have a strop and the water was not very deep. Couldn't get up from the water but I put the board on the water and ran from the land and landed on the board and sailed away. Made it to the other side and then was able to turn around and start heading back....Got only half way back and then the wind died. Kept the kite up but not enough power to continue. Couldn't believe I was able to do it...Didn't think it was possible on such a small kite. Had a blast! Wish I would have got it on video.

Scott - What made you want to stick with the open cell and what size/type of kite do you use for say, 14-18mph. Also saw your strop in a picture, but if I didn't see a quick release...do you one?

Thanks.

Quick release is my hands, shoulders, back muscles and most importantly my brain. I've never seen someone successfully deply a quick release when things get really bad i.e. guy down in Ft. Lauderdale, guy who died in Brazil, another guy I knew down in S. Florida, my buddy who got dragged across some rocks here locally, guy on YouTube who gets drug across some dunes without even being stropped (hooked) in.

The best thing to do with a good foil kite in a bad situation is to crash the kite. This usually kills the power in the kite quickly.

Open cell kites are the easiest to use and longest lasting kites around. I only piad for one LEI kite and it cost me over $1000 and a trip to Hawaii back in the 90's. It was a first generation Wipika 8.5 meter.

14-18mph wind I would probably use a 5-8 meter like a Quadrifoil XL or XXL. It depends on how gusty the wind is. I tend to put up a kite that is sized for the gusts. If it's blowing 14-18mph with gusts to 24 I'll use a 5 meter. If it's 14-18 with 18 being the gusts then I'll use a 7-8meter.

Rig for the gusts and you'll be safe rather than sorry.

goldendmd-come on down the water is nice :wee: We are entering into the cold front wind time of the year. A lot of the guys around here ride in strong North Westerly cold front winds in the lagoon. I don't do that 'cause I have a brain for a quick release :bigok: I don't kitesurf in gusty wind anymore.

In the attached picture I'm on a 4 meter Quadrifoil Q2004 kite. I had a blast with that kite. It was a little dicey in higher wind but I was able to ride in some pretty high winds with it.

Inflatables come as small as 3m,,,so 3 5 and 7m kites are a blast, good in gusty, and sheetable...

find the safety system and know how to use it...

I flew a set of Revs, my usual ride is and instinct, then I found the safety, proceeded to crash the kite dead center in the window, it pulles so hard water came up and over me, I held my breath for about 15 secound all the while pulling a right turn so the kite would relaunch...I did this again and let go of the bar,,,still pulling way to hard for a kite I let go of, so I pulled myself to the bar to relaunch, not easy for being ripped down wind under water, I almost pulled the release both times, just before the kite launched I was out of air, and struggling...but I had to know..

right after you read this, hold your breath for 30 seconds,,,,not easy huh?

Goldendmd!

Peter Lynn all the way! I think most of us PL riders are the only ones in our area flying them. I think it promotes individuality. As most people will agree, any kite can get you riding and you grow to love what you get used to. I think of kiters who fly closed cell foils on the water as people who want to stand out from the crowd and say F U to following the crowd. Plus they just work better on the snow too. Why bother pumping in the snow.. not for me. Closed cell foils are all you need and PL Arcs are the easiest, no BS, best option out there. Only 4 lines, repairable with some sail tape and a sewing machine, and loads of fun.

Don't bother trying to convert the tubies. Just smile and know inside that you have wisdom beyond their comprehesion.
