No 3m Apex II ?

I notice HQ has dropped the 3m with the Apex II ?

I was excited to see a factory depower that small for beginners !
Did it prove to be too small ? Is the 5 a good sized trainer ?
Can anybody comment on the Apex 3 and 5m from experience ?

I think out pulse 7's would be good enough to teach begginers depower skills

I would say 5m is probably a better size over the 3m, because think about it, a 5m will have the pull of about a 3ish metre kite, down to even lower when depowered. When you're starting out, a 3m is a perfect size, and a 3m depower would probably be twitchy.

Yeah when you add the wieght of a de-power bridle to such a small kite you end up with something that is not happy until you get about 15 mph winds I would guess. My 7m Apex is not happy much under 10 mph.

I agree with all of you ! Even the fact the 7m Pulse is an excellent beginers kite and size. It is just so intimidating to people ?

I'm expecting the 3m didn't work out but the 4m access seems to please a few people ? ( not me  )

I would still be interested in hearing what people thought of the 3 that tried it ?

Hey BR, could you clarify this statement? I'm confused.:puzzled:

I think that the problem with small depowers really comes down to the price/usable condition ration. They cost almost as much as a larger depower but are really only usable for kiting in very strong winds. Whereas the 5m or 6m is probably still decent to start out with and has a more usable wind range and only costs a few extra bucks.

The 4meter Ozone Access seems to get a lot of respect ?
I only got to fly one for a short time one day.
It was good and windy but the way the kite produced power was weak and didn't impress me much. It may work as a training tool but as an engine it fell short IMHO !

Until you have flown a Flysurfer Pulse, the ozone access is a great kite.

I liked my first depower Access 4m a lot, that I bought another one last year, but having a Pulse 7m I did not like it as much by then

The first day I learned flying depower kites was with the Ozone Access 3m. They dont make it anymore. IMO it's too small for a depower anyway. That is probably the reason Ozone and HQ don't make that size anymore.

On the other hand, I have noticed that Ozone and HQ have decided to reduced the number of sizes they make per model.

Access is made from 4 to 10, but Frenzy from 7 to 13, and Manta from 8 to 15.

HQ makes Apex2 from 5 to 10, and Montana4 from 7 to 12.5.

So that might indicate that low aspect kites are not popular in very large sizes, and high aspect kites are not in small sizes,

Which makes sense, In low wind conditions, you need a performance kite, in high winds you want a stable kite. In the middle you have the choice.

That's just my thoughts
