16kmh winds gusting to 35 today. Fence on one side, trees (and a hail mary drop off) on the other. I put down a whopping 2miles today:singing:

I don't mind the gusty winds, makes me a better flyer when I hit those clean winds, I just hate not being able to park and ride for a mile....i've got about 500 feet, and.....turn......500 feet....turn....500 feet...turn...it gets old fast =(

Once Big Lake, Pigeon Lake and Cooking Lake are frozen you'll be glad you live where you do. Big open spaces - no tides. With your bigger kites only a bit of wind is needed to have a fun day. A frozen Playa. Only a couple of weeks away.

you aint missing much on the westcoast of vancouver either ... Garry Point Park is damn small. its about a 2 min run if the winds are south (rarely), and about a 30 second run with the West and East winds.

Looking forward to those clean, crisp winds. That field may be across the street but I'd drive 20 minutes to Cooking Lake any day for the winds. I think I'm ready for winter.....in a few weeks

If you are stuck in Canada, the Wet Coast isn't worth lusting after ! Snowkiting is my #1 stoke . I got all geared up and all excited about it. You would think we would have tons of spots, being butt up to the mountians and all ? I mean it IS Canada EH !

It's too warm here and nothing but trees. If you have a sled and don't mind going back country Pemberton is close but I'm more of a roadside rider. Some years Green lake doesn't properly freeze. Most others it doesn't happen until late Jan and only lasts until March. No predictable winds and a 2 hour drive I get the odd day in Merrit but even it doesn't always get snow.

Shushwap doesn't freeze over but there MUST be some good spots in the Okanagan ?

My Mother is in Peachland and I will be looking for places past Kelowna this winter. If I find a good spot it would be a good place to all meet up ? I have heard they are planning a wind farm above Peachland. If that happens I think we could poach some of that wind ? :ticking:

come join us at sunset more, even seaside beach on a w, nw, sw, ne, has plenty of room. and a new sand bar shows up here at low tide, made from the big storm in december last year. and it is almost always windy.

Id love to get to sunset but it's a good two day drive for me. Maybe Bladerunner can go on my behalf. Think that would satiate my inland woes? Worth a try hey Ken?

Baby on board kinda interferes with the NABX plans. She'd KILL me if I left her here 7 months pregnant. If you make it to Cowtown make sure we plan something - even just a coffee. I'd drive 3 hours to shake your hand....who knows - we might get to fly together if Chestermere is frozen over and snowed.

Back to macboy's question. I have often wondered about the East Kootenays for snowkiting. I don't think the Okanagan or Shuswap gets enough snow even if it does freeze up. My sister is in Cranbrook so I am more familiar with Wasa and Moyie lakes - they should have good snow cover and winds. Windermere or Columbia Lakes would be an hour closer to Vancouver but I don't know if they freeze completely. Definitely more work to do here (think kiting instead of skiing)

Vernon seemed to have loads of snow last Feb. Maybe something somewhere around Kamloops?

I am looking for suggestions between Kelowna and Vernon. Of course, up in the mountains. If ANYONE heres of a good spot around there PLEASE let me know and I will check it out !

It is / was my last and Favorite Aunt. She passed yesterday. :saint: It is my Mother who needs comfort. She came from a large Family and with Dad gone as well, She is feeling pretty alone.
