I need a kite

Well I finally had some time to get out and fly again friday night and today. Between both days I flew all 3 kites I have and even got a friend of mine into the sport. :singing:

So I started thinking I need to expand my quiver. Id like a kite I can also use as a buggy engine for when Donny finishes my buggy (prob. this summer). I think Im going to get a ATB before the summer gets here to :) Something that I could fly static though too.

90% of my flying is on the beach. I would only buggy on the beach, no fields around here are big enough. Summer time winds are usually 8-15 id say, fall and winter 15+

What to you guys suggest?

Probably for cruising around on an ATB something in the 5 meter range to start. Maybe a Blade IV 4.9 or maybe the 7.

A blade would be good on the ATB, but suck in a buggy....I love my Ace on the board, but cant stay in the bug with it. Try and buggy with the Ace, if you like it and can use it, then get a blade and a AAA kit, and you'd be fine.

Isnt the blade a lifty kite? Will the AAA kit take care of that?

I know Donny said he loves the AAA kit and wouldnt do without it.

yeah, the blade is a VERY lifty kite, like I said, fly the Ace in the buggy, and if you can use it, then you should be good. Then if you get a blade, get a AAA, set it on lifty for the board, and low lift in the buggy.

For that wind range I LOVE my 8m Access on the landboard. I don't think you'll find any depower kite much fun to fly static though. At least I don't. Of course I'm really not interested in flying static anymore anyway.

Do you see yourself ever hitting the water ?
Are you looking to go new or used ?

I think you are ready for a good depower ! The access is a good place to start. Great learner / all rounder. If Jellis still has that JoJo session it would be worth a look ? If you want to eventually go to water I think a 10m Pulse II is also for sale on here ? That would be a great kite for you !!!!

I haven't used my 5m Ace in the buggy a lot but I didn't find it so lifty as to be a big problem. At that point I was flying my 3m Brooza and both of them would float me off the seat once I got moving real fast it I flew them high! I would keep the ace and try the AOA on it. MANY skilled riders love the 4.9 Blade on the buggy ! Freestylers the most.

While flying depower static isn't as much fun as F.B. pendulam jumping IS !!! You will get some nice ( somewhat ) safe floaty jumps with something like that 10m Pulse II !!!

There is always 3 or more opinions !

Kite NH,
I know I would enjoy my friends 10m Acces in 8-15. I like my 13m P3 most between 8 and 12 on land ? Do you think an 8m is big enough ?

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.

Well, I only weigh about 150lb with my shoes on and am not exactly tearing it up on the board so the 8m would be better for me for that range, right now, than a 10m I think. I've never flown the 10m, but you're right that for a heavier or better rider it would probably be a better fit, especially for the low 8mph end. But at 15 mph I'm pretty happy with my 8m.

Yeah, i'd say lean towards the depower. Probably in the 8-12m range. HQ Montana is a pretty nice kite. Go for the newer model if you go that route. Contact don@kiteplace.com. He has some and they are quite nice. You could also go with Ozone or if you really have the cash, get a flysurfer. If your going water, make sure its water relaunchable. Most of the ozone stuff is, and same for flysurfer. Problem is, the water kites have lots of lift, which will make the buggy ride very... entertaining (flying out of hte buggy on a good updraft? look out!). You'll just have to be careful. I know guys who do both with the same kite, just takes some practice I would assume. Best of luck!

If you're in Norfolk, you've got HQ and Flysurfer right in your backyard (Chesapeake for HQ/VAB for FSer I think). Schedule a demo and take it from there. The Neo and Pulse 2 will give you KBG, buggy, kitesurfing capabilities. I agree with AJ on the zipper. Good luck....................

I guess coastal wind sports would still be your closest dealer to SE Virginia. You can't buy direct from the MFR. Angus is great to work with. Never heard of a disappointed customer. He ships far and wide too. I've heard him talk about Chile, and Antarctica as some far flung customers. The guy in Antarctica mentioned he had a few snowfields to play in. Big surprise.

If you can make your way south a bit, c'mon down to Jekyll Island and try the HQ Neo; it's a great cross-over kite and has the requisite zipper. I have the 11m that will get you going on the water as well as land. It has enough de-power to keep my arse where it should be in the buggy. One-man set-up, launch, landing and pack-down. You will be flying while others are pumping or pre-inflating (Peter Lynn). Launch it like an open cell foil and it takes care of inflation itself. 1/2 cost of a Flysurfer.
Park the kite off your shoulder then use both hands to crack a water bottle or grab your camera- give the bar an occasional poke to keep the kite where you want it and enjoy the ride. Start riding in as little as 6 mph winds. Turn up the lift for a ride on the ATB and enjoy some lift and pop.

I learned on a de-power and after flying on handles this weekend I've got to say it's a lot easier to fly the de-power. Maybe it is my choice of kites, but even just unloading the pull onto a harness is nice. I was shocked how many different new muscles I used on the handles!

The Montana is really easy to fly but you need a fair amount of wind to have any (beginner) fun with it. I've found I can fly it on the beach with 8-12 but it's not worth taking it in the buggy until 15. Although I'm still a newbie If you can find a de-power in your price I'd start there. If not, pickup something and fly :) Soon enough you'll find kite $'s even if you have to sell some blood. There is a Beamer III on the FS forum...

Thanks arkay ;)

haha

And Angus, I would love a Neo but if I were to get a kite anytime soon it would need to be about 1/2 th e price of a NEo. Its justy really hard for me to justify $500+ on a kite. I mean I love the sport but dont get to fly everyday or even every week for that matter.

But thats why Im thinking about a new kite. I dont think the Beamer will be enough and I think the Ace may be too much. Im used to the Ace now and know what to expect and how to controll it but its just so lifty I dont see it working too good in a buggy.

legends are ok. but not as stable as rage / bullet or pkd buster. For our wind range around here a 4-6 m low lift traction kite will be plenty. In low winds your 5 ace might do.
I can't speak on de-power

I would try the AOA kit on the Ace before I tossed it. Also the Ace would teach you some good buggy habits.

I kind of enjoyed mine with the buggy ? With a buggy you want to fly the kite low. Just avoid taking it up too high too fast . This applies double when you are moving fast. It also applies to race kites. You will appreciate a lifty kite when you move to 2 wheeling, spins and jumping !

If you hold on to that $500 and keep an eye on the for sale section something will come up. Some newer 13m Peter Lynn Arcs go for that much. The 10m Pulse is also starting to fall in to your range. Keep an eye out for these 2 kites !

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Calm down for crying out loud. I read your post and then asked a question. Keep your panties on bro.

In my spare time of a full time job and single parent Ill try to squeez in a dmo for you ;)
