wow 2M legend
went out flying today with macboy and revpaul.
revpaul found a new area to buggy a whole open 1/4 section of land nice smooth grassy ground. 26er of Gibsons finest to a very nice land owner and
nothing but grins from ear to ear on us..
Winds 50 kmh gusting from 70-90kmh
Only kite in the quiver that I would pull out was the 2M legend.
probably should of just waited out the high winds and hope for it to slow down. But didnt went for a try with revpaul and macboy helping set up the
kite. Jumped into my PL comp ST bug and went for a ride. After two attempts at flying the 2M for about an 1/8 of a mile each time. shut ur down looked
on the gps and that little sucker had me up to 54 kmh in my last 1/8 mile try:wee:.(I'm 220 lbs on a stock PL comp st buggy with a 2M pansh legend).
So with better judgement we shut ur down and went to timmys for a hot drink.
Winds died down 30-40kmh gusting to 50- 60khm so out with the 3M we went. wow what a rush thats was like heaven running up down the hills just flyin
with out worry about missing a goal post. best time yet on the buggies.
Thanks macboy and revpaul

I'm glad we went back too. Now the wife is giving me that "You wanna go back out there tomorrow?" look. :saint:
Deez left out the part where the wind snatched the 2m from his hands, snapping both killers and floating the airborne ripstop perilously to the
highway only to hit THE ONLY powerpole around, wrapping itself nicely until we were able to get to it and pull it down. Couldn't get the camera out
and focused quick enough but might have something to post. I'll make sure the link makes it's way here.
Amazing day, amazing place, amazing guys to fly with....I'm gonna be so sore tomorrow. I can't believe how much power it takes to climb a hill!
(And I still don't see myself inflating a 10m PL in that kind of wind anytime soon......):shocked2:

Pity you have that road ! I think you are seeing why KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s aren't so popular around here. They call that snap when the brakes hit so hard
they brake your killers Total Depower ??? :wow: NOT
Just wait until someone lets go to killers and then realizes they haven't unhooked 1st !
The only TRUE total depower is when you let go of the handles and are free of the kite. If you don't have enough room downwind for the kite to fall
away, you don't actually have downwind room to ride safely. ( but we all do ) :smug:
Have you boys started to think about NAPKRA ?
It is a somewhat informal set of teams for buggy racing in North America. As serious or as cool as your local crew wants it to be ! It's a great idea
and should be helpful to us all if we get the numbers up. It will help us to qualify for insurance and things so we can host others and have
gatherings. Please check it out and think about forming another proud Canadian team !!! You can call me KC96 :wee:

Hi Ken,
all the KKs we busted were HQ's and i believe a small part of the problem is the way they are made. they all busted at the point where the cords
have been stitched through, inside the cordura sleeve. i think the stitching (needle passing through the cord several times) weakens the cord at that
point.
*i busted a killer without even dumping a kite.
i had just started to sit in the buggy but was not aligned properly with seat and realized it before fully committing to sitting down. i stumbled off
balance a wee bit as i was going to stand back up and figured the smart thing to do at this point, in the midst of being off balance, is to let go of
handles before the kite does something to knock me completely off balance. well that was it, i let go of kite and the one killer let go. the kite was
almost at the zenith and this all happened in less than a second.
we don't often bust KKs, i think the only other time any of us busted one was due to a good old fashion axle wrap. my Beamer's lines/KKs have not
escaped an occasional axle wrap either so maybe they were already weakened somewhat. none the less, i will not buy HQ KKs anymore though. my flexi KKs
are better build and i have some PLs coming to compare.
i did't like/use KKs until i saw the handles from my 4.5 LD, in 45km/h, take off doing about 700 m/ph once. they weren't a real pain to get used to
and now it feels just weird not using them.
we all fly arm strong, no strop, but i do get your drift.
i have to agree about not enough room too.
when derek finally let go of the kite it floated, not losing altitude, for quite distance. he wasn't that close the road. kelly and i were a couple
hundred meters watching the kite float away, completely bunched up. it was after some time when we figured it wasn't going to hit the ground and it
would have cleared the road if the pole hadn't been there.
i don't think the NAPKRA needs a couple of bubble heads like us (i can't speak for kelly) as members (yet) been to their site before and use
some or their guidelines for flying in close quarters with other buggy-ers.

Proud to be bubble headed!
heheheh
I worry about making hobbies bigger than what they are to me in my day to day life. I got turned off of a pretty serious ice & snow sculpture
hobby of eight years because organization led to politics which led to true colors of others showing through. Got right scr*wed a couple years ago and
vowed to never do anything for anyone but myself (sculpture-wise) ever again. Sadly, the same thing happened in my RC Heli endeavours - club politics
really turned me off. Sour grapes perhaps but if I'm only doing stuff for myself then nobody can burn me but myself. Maybe that's why all my life I've
been an independent sport kinda guy.
I'm not suggesting that NAPKRA would be the same but past experience has me pretty jaded. I guess what I mean to say is that wouldn't rule it out but
would enter cautiously and quietly. I do want to add that I'm happy to have found a gathering place like PKF and only get slight shivers when things
like commercial post discussions show up. Everyone here and all the posts here, commercial or not - even back to the beginnings of the forum - have
been and will continue to be far bigger than any disorganized organization I'd proudly wear a shirt for ; )

I hear you on the Club Politics thing. It has put me off in the past as well.
Our own little kite group nearly fell apart a while ago and we weren't even actually organized. It happens. It is the individual nature of Skiing and
now this that I really enjoy. I'm a team player I'm just not a team joiner, as a rule !
Even though you aren't part of a race group you better practice ! The boys from the Coast are going to want a race with you some day :singing:

I'll be out there for a few days in November,... so I'll get some info on what we'll be dealing with. I'm sure that whoever they are we can be sure
they'll be damp.
