Ground Industries Initial Review

OK, just got my Flight Light ATB in the mail yesterday. My first imression is that this board ROCKS. Its a slightly older model than everyone is selling on their site, I think this one is 2 years old.

I tried a couple downhills yesterday (no kite) and seemed like the steering is a bit tight. This could just be from older torsion cubes (google it, pretty cool setup), or maybe they are just stiffer than what I am used to (orange eggshell shocks on my MBS Blade... may be for sale on the forum soon). But really solid feel. The deck is pretty stiff, and pretty damn light. I tried getting it to bottom out... it wouldnt go.

Today, with what little wind I had, I tried it behind a kite (7.7). The board was a little harder to get started on, but with better wind, I'm pretty sure that problem would go away. This could also be because it is harder to steer (flexes less than the Blade) than what I am used to. It would probably help to take a bit of a more-downwind stance. But when I got going... not even a hint of wobble... none.

I cant wait to push the limits of this board. It is smaller, stronger, lighter, and more nimble than the Blade, and I have read that wobble is greatly reduced.

Just wantedto get my initial thoughts out there... and to sum it up, Great board. I'm surprised I havent read any more than I have about these boards.

There is one for sale on the forum right now (I think), and I nearly bought it. If it is even close to as good as the Flight Light, I recommend it.

I'll check back once I can really push it. I will be riding it at DBBB, and if my Blade hasnt sold locally, I will also have that one for sale there.

Happy Kiting

Keep doing the down hill runs with the new board, they will break-in the torsion cubes for you. Initially they will be stiff and you'll have to force the turns but eventually they will stretch and losen up a bit. Check GI's website for cube colors.

if you are close to 150lbs. get the #3 cubes. If you are 180+ get the #4 cubes...you are likely to get better service from a GI Dealer than there website...

-thanks for supporting local shops

What color cubes are you riding? I have an old style GI board too with the older (2005) cubes. Stock cubes used to be yellow on the old decks and those are stiff. I have navy blue / purple, royal blue and yellow. I weigh ~ 150#s and currently ride the navy blue / purple cubes and like those much more than the yellow. If you can't carve over to toeside your cubes are too stiff for your weight - unless you like full on bomber runs than they are probably pretty good.

I ordered the #3 cubes... rated aerial on their site. It has the stock yellow ones on it. I think I would like a bit softer steering, but I want to be able to get some speed runs in, too.

I just wanted to let y'all know that these boards, in my first opinion, rock.
