I am going to Orlando, FL this winter and thinking about stopping by at Daytona beach for buggying.

So, I did search here but looks like it's not buggyable since street law applies on the beach, meaning you have to have break, seat belt blah blah, to drive on the beach.

Anybody can provide more info? Maybe something changed ever since and now it's buggyable?

I agree, but at some point in the past I read the city ordinance that prohibited it. could be a dangerous situation mixing it up with cars though. You would have to pick your spot carefully. For a great run, stop by Jekyll Island GA or Anastasia State park in St. Augustine FL. Fort Clinch State park in Fernandina beach FL is a wide open undeveloped section of beach as well. There are others, but I have personal knowledge of these. Each offers miles of open beach with firm sand.

EDIT: Better yet, make it a buggy tour and hit em all!

I am staying at my girlfriend's brother's house and wanted to show them what my life is all about. Daytona beach could have been a good fit since it's close to Orlando. Not sure if they are willing to drive to other places you mentioned but it's good to know my other options.

My plan, however, is definitely stopping by at Jekyll Island. Angus @ coastalwindsports.com is kind enough to provide local info including camping site and buggy beach. As the date gets closer, I will post something in "meet up" section. Would love to meet some locals in person and ride with you guys. - Brian

I'm not sure but I think you can buggy on St Augustine Beach ?

Not too much farther and if you get skunked a visit to St Augustine is worth the trouble! It's an amazing place !

I think the desolate flat beach at Anastasia Park in St. Augustine is about 3 miles long with no development past the parking area at the south end. Then it runs all the way to the inlet to St. Augustine harbor in downtown. You can buggy on the main beach at St. Augustine but it will have people, the ledge from beach restoration, and less hard sand. From the pier north is where you want to go. This wouldn't be terribly further after you got to Daytona. You also could go to Tampa and visit with SteveP. I will be there around New Years and in Orlando a few weeks later for Surf Expo, so post your schedule when you figure it out.

Orlando is in the middle of Florida. So it's not far to a couple of rideable beaches. Daytona beach is a no go for kite buggies. The authorities don't like the kites much there as well. St. Augustine is one of the best beaches on the east coast of the U.S. for kite buggies to ride on. Long and wide beach with no buildings on the north end, which is called Anastasia state park. 5 bucks to enter the state park. Below Anastasia, once you get past the pier, is never ending until you get to the next jetty. I think it's about a twelve mile run from top to bottom. Great kite shop in St. Augustine too. Cocoa beach is the closest beach to Orlando for a quick ride. Not the best to ride on except for when it's low tide, but good enough for some wind through your hair. Treasure Island on the west coast of Florida is a bit of a drive but it's another great beach to buggy on. It's just south of Tampa. A great big wide beach to show someone how to buggy on. It's not as hard packed as St. Augustine but great when the wind is constantly redirecting.

thats pretty wide for a high tide cycle (appears to be high)
