Flysurfer VS Peter Lynn
So which one is better in your opinion? Those people who tried both flysurfer and peter lynns!
It seems to me that in every aspect of flying peter lynn is superior to flysurfer. Only benefit of flysurfer is low wind. Otherwise, if the wind get
gusty, the benefit of flysurfer depower disappears.
I am loving my venom so much that I am thinking of selling pulse 12 to get new synergy instead.
As tridute said, ARC's are very underpreciated while now I tend to believe that flysurfers are greatly over rated (except low wind)

.....ooooh.....can't wait to see this thread light up! I thought the deal with Flysurfers was the massive depower, guess not? Great thread - thanks

I have to say that the new hybrids and new bowkites have better depower then flysurfer. Maybe because they are much more stable.
But peter lynn depower, wow, it is so linear.

dont wrap that Venom around a light pole....................I think its all about personal preference. For me I prefer the Psychos to Pulses. The only
difference between Venoms and Scorpions (again for me) is bar pressure. Seems less on the Scorpion due to the VPC bridle I suspect. 16m Venom more
grunt, Scorp faster thru the window/turns faster, due to A/R and VPC. 13m Venom very fast and direct......Flysurfer sets up faster. Once a PL is air
born it stays that way unless you really get it wrong. Depower, the Pulse has the most of any kite Ive flown but (for me) too much. Gusts PL but the
Psychos werent too bad. Water relaunch, flysurfer but Ive had no probs launching the Scorpion (3 intentional dunkings). Warranty, Flysurfer has the
best. Both are built very well. If you dont like bridles, PL.......the list could go on and on. If youre going foil, land and water demo both. Take
into consideration your winds (avg speed, clean, gusty etc.) and go from there. Again, its back to personal preference.........

Hi
I have never tried a PL kite, what size would you need to fit a wind range of a 12 meter bow kite approx. 18 to 28 knots?
Or simply what size would work in those conditions, I'm more interested in the lower end.
I have been looking at pulse 2 in 10 or 12 meter, but would like to try a PL first.
Thanks
Jon.

the FS i have is not the greatest i 'm sure, very light bar pressure and quite & sensitive seems to have a smaller window and gusty forget
it. i 've had some great sessions with it but i'm having to focus on the kite soooooo much to keep it flowing nicely has power and speed like crazy
(for it's series). but just not doing for me .
PL venom ....one launch and ride til you hurt, water to land back and forth seamlessly,
the range ....amazing. if there's wind enough to fill it you can fly it, certainly on land... many a session on land 8-10 mph breeze.... and
20-25mph a junkies feast( and this is all on one kite)
easy rig, fly with a hole in it. fix with practically any tape
FS no doubt makes a premium rig and i have not flown enough to fairly judge
synergy 12 can't go wrong with that

How much do you weigh?
8-10 mph & 20-25 mph, that's pretty amazing. Which size Venom is this ?

V16 195lbs
around 15mph i start getting decent land jumps( 10ft.+ at good speed) and generally consider it a little safer on water. the injury factor on land
is high, (beyond the pads joint /bone /spine)
<10mph is cruising & cool giant kite loops and coyotes are fun when i get low as well

I have some of the first kites from both and it seems these differences in gust tolerance, depower, setup, and zenith go back to their basic designs -
my FS16.5m is great low wind kite that never needs to be sined or worked but today it was not handling gusts at all and fell out of the sky 5 or more
times - PL would only do that if it lulled below 10mph - setup is easier on the FS but only the newer models have "simple" bridles and I've had to
think German precision when (un)packing lest I get to redo them all (real easy to unfold the kite and accidently pull the bar through a bridle and not
know until it's staked out 20m away :-(
Auto zenith on the PL is great but I get pulled up sometimes off my edge whereas the FS stays put in clean wind.
So clean low-mid wind get the FS or gusty mid-high wind get a PL or get an Ozone and start a new thread...

I am not posting my pulse 2 12 for sale yet, as I am taking it to cuba with me, but after that it is for sale.
If anyone wants to secure deal in advance, 950$ + shipping. Kite is in excellent shape with new replaced depower line.

each kite has its optimal conditions and strengths !.... typically we see PL kite sales/usage increase in the winter and FS kite sales/usage increase
in the summer.
a 10m ARC is about the same power/projected area/feel as a 6-7m dynamic bridle foil.

Nope, not me.
I am staying with my Flysurfers. The trend here was started by tridude and then you also got one. I have to say that I was tempted and did some
checking around.
I read reviews of Venom 16m at racekites.com . One review mentioned some problems and one of them was a broken spar ( http://www.racekites.com/reviews/getReview.asp?reviewID=935). Overall a good review but if my spar broke while am at the beach, I'd be very
unhappy.
I have recently started flying depowers so I am in the learning mode. I have put up my F-Surfer Pulse2 6m a few times and I love the kite. It's easy
to self-launch, self-land and more imporatantly easy to pack away. Kite's handling is just amazing too. I did have problems in extremely high gusty
conditions, once -- this was in an inland park known for constant direction changing and gusty winds. My 6m kite was fully depowered (yellow strap
pulled in completely) and the kite did fall out of the sky a couple of times; in those conditions, I was feeling overpowered as the winds were very
high. I am going to fly it in gusty 20s a few more times and report back on how kite flies.
Once I get the hang of depower flying with my 6m, I'll start flying my 10m Pulse and 13m P3 regularly. And, I can't wait.

Oh no no, I meant the Peter Lynn arcs. As I recall, you gave the kites high
marks and from then on, there has been plenty of interest in them. Like I said, I started reading up on them as well.

whew.........thanks for the clarification...................I have a 25kt/30 mph rule anyway whether the winds clean or not. Once it goes beyond 30,
Im pretty much done for the day. I use this rule after a great day on my 7m Pulse. The kite was awesome, winds fairly steady between 25/30+kts, but
the swells were big, shoreline disappear, re-appear, a bit hairy being new to the water, i.e. the 30 mph rule..................The arcs have/will not
change my rule.

yesterday out on V13 in 20-25mph gust to 30..... at the launch broke a spar, old 3 peice , but i always have 1/2" oak sticks (in the truck& bag)
cut to length. $1.69 and 5min reset. sessioned on it 2hours. no problem
the 3 pc. have been breaking out of the 9 sections i have four left. but the oak sticks seem fine .
i admit the solo launch in heavy wind is the trouble but with help it would reduce this happening.
the single pc. sticks in my V16 are the way to go, fiber glass tube
i could see the spar flex a little but easy backup

bloah,
I'm definately interested. But in all fairness I must ask, have you done the stability tweak to this kite if that is what bothers you? It really makes
quite a difference to the kites behaviour in gusty winds. It will never be as stable as a PL, but should be quite manageable.
I have a 10m Pulse1, and it is easy to use in gusty(but not too shifty please) winds. I also have a Pulse2 8m, and it was not the best in gusty winds
until I reset the mixer to(b-1&c-3cm). The 8m only has a couple of sessions on it, but I suspect as it beds in I can return to the stock settings.
The 10m is now back to even mixer and is fine in all but the shiftiest winds.
Powerzone is giving great advice to all Pulse/FS owners.Play with your mixer settings before you write them off as too unstable. A couple of cm's can
make a big difference.Ring line shrinkage is also something to watch out for on older kites too.
If after doing this bloah, and you still want sell your 12m..I'm your buyer.I would appreciate a few pics of the usual wear areas if you can.I'm esp.
interested in canopy wear at the tips, vents, trailing edge ..etc. I'm assuming no rips/repairs?
I'll u2u my e-mail to you in case you have some already.
Enjoy Cuba, and let me know how you make out with the tweaks.
Terry.

This is a great tip !
When I went to Australia I had my F-arc. It had the old single piece spars. They were way too long for my luggage so I just bought some downilg over
there. It holds up well enough to get you through a session !

nskiter thanks for the info, I never knew about this adjustments. I will give them a shot, maybe if it will make the kite a bit more stable.
Overall, the kite is in A+ shape. The only wore power was depower line, but I replaced it. Pulleys, LLCs, and Canopy are in top shape.

Re: Doweling
It may have already been said above but was there any weight difference? And is there any fear of bad things happening, snapping a spar and ripping
out the gusset? (Actually I bet not - those sleeves are thick....) Still, might as well ask. I've ordered a set of carbon tubes (the kind kite makers
use) and ferrules to rebuild a proper set for the V16.
