Wake Kite?

http://denver.craigslist.org/spo/939439464.html

This was on my local craigslist, its WAY overpriced, but, is there any reason you cant just do this with a regular kiteboarding kite? Hook it up so the AoA is fixed, as a 2 line kite, lines to a wakeboarding bar, and go for it?

I mean imagine rocking that with like my 14m!!!

I would strongly urge you not to try it. wake kites are specifically designed for that purpose.

look on youtube a bit and you'll see people have tried using kitesurfing kites for this before. usually it ends in someone getting seriously hurt or a kite getting destroyed.

I had a friend who had a C-kite get ripped in half when it hit the water and instantly turned into a sea anchor behind the boat. could have seriously hurt someone if the line snapped instead of the kite.

personally it sounds like a good way to die if anything at all goes wrong. but that's just me.

here's kind of a neat video of someone doing this.

Hi

He's right. When you pull a kitesurfing kite you mostly go up, up ,up, then one screw up and oh no. Watch the videos on u-tube.

I don't get this at all. I don't see what the wakekite adds to the wakeboarding. It didn't look like it helped them get much bigger air and it seems like it would add a lot of drag and be kind of annoying flapping around behind you.

Towing up with a kite seems like a good way to die. Forget water, I've seen youtube vids of guys getting towed up behind snowmobiles. No thanks.

From the videos, it looks like the stress is placed on his ski "handle" and not like the boarder was having to shoulder the drag from the kite. With the big kite, the guys were getting more float and carried farther outside the wake than they would have given their aggressiveness. Way not worth the hassle in my opinion though. With wake and skill, you can do what they were doing without the kite. Not to mention you would look like a goofball while using it.
