V1 13m thoughts?

Hey I know there's been a fair amount of discussion on the V1 13m lately..but I just got offered one for 250, possibly with bar and am trying to make decisions.

Right now in my lineup:

Pulse2 10m
Pulse2 14m (on the market)
P4 15m (expected delivery tomorrow)
SA 1.5 17m

I took a look at the wind range calculator for my weight, 215.. and it sounds like this kite will get me out when im not feeling comfortable on the Pu2 10m. Assuming it also handles gust/lulls better, I am hoping ti would also take the place of the Pu2 10 in the really gusty winds that typically frustrate me on the 10m.

What do you guys think? I think it would get decent use in my quiver if it really outperforms in gusty/lully winds. It would primarily be used as a landkite, since its typically the winter season when i get the nasty winds that make me want this kite. I'd maybe use it on water in the fall too.

For the price this seems like a pretty good introduction to PL, but then again i havent even flown my P4 so decided who to fly will be a real challenge unless the wind decides for me.

can not talk for PL twin/arcs/etc. as I have no experience with them at all

But as a good thing to do, I guess, is to get used with his kites before changing too often (do what I say, not what I do ;-) ).

You are going to make a transition to the P4 this week, which I have done too, and this kite is different from other Flysurfer, so that might be a good idea, you get familiar with this one before jumping to another type/model too quick

You may decided to replace your Pu2 10m with a P4 eventually too if you like it.

I have only 2 rides with the P4 15 m now, and I really like it, so even thinking to replace small ones with that.

Some folks take sometimes to appreciate the P4 because it flies more like a tube. As for me, I have flown tubes a lot in the past year, so I came to like the P4 fast. It's kind of the good from both worlds.

Hugh depower on the P4 really helped to handle gusts the first session I was on compare to Speed/P3/Pulse I have flown before.

when you sheet out, the kite takes this C shape, that you can see actually the difference when looking from down there. I dont say that it,s as good as Peter Lynn for gusts, but better than previous FS for sure.

But on the other hand, you have a such good deal, that you may just try, and you will not lose if you resell.

I would say that's a very good deal - the PL arcs are all good at taking gusts - In my own experience with what I have they are by far the most forgiving - even amongst the depowers that I have the arcs win hands down. An example would be the 7.4 Airush lift: good solid power c-kite but throw some gusts down its throat it gets a little choppy and can have a tendency to fall out of the sky if the wind pitches the leading edge towards the ground. The 8m Access is good at taking gusts but needs to be manually adjusted for variable wind speeds (this is an older model - 05). The Arcs simply absorb the gust by "blobbing" the extra thrust through its canopy. Mind you there is a limit to everything and finding that limit can be dangerous. My experience with this specific kite has given me these particular parameters for flying (I am 6' 1" and 180lbs):

Low end - 12 to 14mph this will get you moving (barely) on a landboard or in a buggy

mid range - 15 to 20mph (sheeted out still - maximum power) this is where the fun is with this kite - all around cruiser will get you plenty of air on a landboard with a nice float - have gone 38mph in my buggy with 20mph winds at the beach with hardpack sand.

top end - 21 to 27mph (this is generally where I use the sheeting) I have had this kite out in 27mph sheeted all the way in - I would only attempt this after really getting to know this kite well - will turn much quicker and generate massive power at this point - but is controllable with experience.

Definitely my favorite kite - It's one of those you can just lock it in and go.
$250 is an excellent deal - grab it while it's still available

we all believe is called the expansion

Hey Dom,

I just talked to bigsteve and he's passing on the deal. too many kites. he wants to give the p4 a chance

anyway I'm the guy who is in contact with the guy selling the 13m Venom and bar. he has a 10m venom as well.

I got first dibs on the Venom 10m and the bar but I can put you in touch with him about the 13m if you want it still.

I'm still not sure what bar it is but I may decide to pass on it if it isn't something really great so there may be a bar up for grabs as well.

Hey thanks for all the good info guys, I appreciate the feedback. as Nwsurf said I'm passing for now just because i've got so many kites right now. I'm forcing myself to sell some off before I get more. I'm gonna keep PL in mind as I think they'd really help me get out in the crumbier seattle winds in the winter.
