Brakes

I imagine brakes are bad with kites... unless you have a 3rd hand, but I don't want to go there.

Does anyone know how brake assemblies hook onto the board? Is it just a disc, friction to the hub? I'm wondering because I've seen a bunch of nice boards FS here, on ebay, and craigslist, but a lot of them seem to have brakes. I'm wondering (how the work... and) if these can be easily removed for kite and beach use.

My boys are the board nuts and I know they removed there brakes systems. Too much going on to worry about that wacking you again and again. IMHO

Those brakes are usually removable and most people do for kiting.

Most of the boards that come with brakes are entry level. Designed more for downhill and less for taking a pounding from jumps. Check the rated weight on them. Boards designed for kiting don't usually come with brakes at all.

There's a disc attached to the hub and a brakepad attached to a caliper which is attached to the truck. The pad presses onto the disc to create friction.

I pulled the brakes off my MBS Ambush the day I got it. I only pulled the calipers off, though. The calipers are mounted to the truck by 2 bolts, and were easy to remove. I left the discs on the hubs because they weren't in the way.
