something simalar but not quite a jump.
i was kiting at the weekend and was boosting huge and loving it, but on one run i went to send the kite and just before i pulled in the bar, a little
voice inside me screemed nooooooooooooooo! this has never happened before and the conditions were the same as the previous jumps but it just wasnt
right. i have lost alot of fear over the years and always try to go as high as possible. i love high winds and small kites. i cant really explain
it and its bugged me since. i dont think it was fear that stopped me, so what else could it have been.

haha,
u know I think even after getting out on the water a dozen or so times this year. my first jump was still my highest one yet.
was out using the pulse 2 12m. sent the kite hard expecting it to not do very much. I must have gone straight up 30ft! floated back down making sure I
kept the kite right over head. plopped down in the water and as soon as my head got above water again I sat there for a second and said WOW :shocked2:

the launch!..............completely chills me out and the first rip..... heaven's ride
fright to flight or jonesin' junkie scores

Mine was with a Blade IV 6.5. It was tridudes, who loaned it to me for a weekend (What a guy) then sold it to furbowski. The wind was about 14 and I
had just set up. On medium lift on the AAA. I had been talking to some guys flying a 40 year old single line delta and when it scudded me about 15
to 20 feet on launch one of the guys said out loud, "Wow, I bet that thing could pick you up off the ground"! The little voice inside me said "watch
this". I sent it hard and went 10-12 feet straight up and redirected nicely for a floaty landing in the soft sand. Wexler was slackjawed and the guy
with the delta asked "did you MEAN to do that"? Never forget it.

that's how i felt on my second/recent kick at the moto-X cat but not when i was younger. when i was younger i jumped huge and (lucky) never got hurt
at all. the second time around i rode with buddies high-high speed through the bush. enduro/hare scramble. hardly any jumps just for jumps sake.
figured i'd better not push my luck.
i feel the same way about kites. keep the wheels on the ground and go fast. i did not follow that policy last weekend though. jumps were my biggest
but baby jumps compared to the cool guys. thing that struck me is; watching those guys for one afternoon really answered my "if i wanted to, how do I
jump" question. i never really figured the mechanics of a jump by watching the vids.
i here a little voice now telling me "it's OK dude, you can do it too, just start small, you'll be fine...honest".

for me with static flying, the jumping is the most fun part...my field is not big enough for endless scuds...learn to jump, there is just something
about leaving the ground that is special plus it will add a totally new side to
your sport. also i think that as a safety measure you should know how to jump, in the case that you ever did get lofted, you would know what to do to
get back down safely. it would be reflex instead of "what do i do again?" by then its too late.

about 25-30 ft on the water total rush
on land (ATB) about 15ft could be more hard to tell esp. at night you just feel the flow and float redirect slower to soften the drop.
very addictive,
i have to say the jumping was a great progression for me both land and water
but really getting the transition jump redirect with the pause at the apex and really put the heat in a down loop turn from toeside .
down loop turn had to be the most challenging for me real gut check for me and still always a deep breath every time on land not as fast but even more
cautious

for me if I can't get 20+ feet off the ground it's not fun ....
once you have confidence in your landings the higher you'll push your self even at times when the unsuspected abductions happens you'll still have
confidence landing
I doubt if I would have ever brought my self to push it to what my jumps has become if it wasn't for the fact my beach has the perfect soft sand to
land in and a high rise hotel that provides a bubble to get huge air off of ........................
the hotel is 3 stories high with a 5 foot roof ridge line and it sits atop a sea wall 15 feet above the beach ...when I can see over the hotel roof
I'm a happy jumper:wee:
if your not on the edge then your taken up to much space

how does one , who can't seem to learn by watching web vids, go about learning to jump. like you said, it's the landing that counts.
*i seen the guys jumping and have it figured out to this point. (no doubt a vary basic line of thinking and full of holes)
-moving cross wind with kite low and parked. move kite up and to opposite direction of travel (initiates a pendulum jump). after take-off, turn kite
back to original direction of travel and prep for landing.
i watched but can't be sure if the guys ever let off the bar throughout the process.
someone care to fill in the missing parts. i assume wind conditons will vary jump technique/procedure. at what point in the jump do we turn kite back
to original direction? just after take off, at apex, go by feel? do we keep bar on full power until landing. what am i missing (aside from
practise/experience). i would like to jump but only if i can get those nice smooth landings down pat.

bar full in until you reach the top of the jump. let the bar out (this speeds up the kite aswell) redirect. just before landing pull the bar in again
for a smooth landing. practise practise practise practise practise practise !!!!!!

gosh !!! I haven't jumped in so long on a bar system...
on handles spins are quicker because hands are x far apart
bar ...slower spin because line connection points are X far apart
not only that I wasn't able to get the inverted 360 jump spin w/o getting my feet caught up in the lines ....like smacking the lines in a direction
I had no intention in going{not fun inverted} or snagging one line and deflating a wingtip ...... for better control ,spins and safety + depower is a
flick of the wrist
i'm a handle person + i feel more center balanced

thanks,
makes sense. want to get the basics steps straight in my head "before" i try some real jumping. i imagine things will, at some point, just go by feel.
need to build good foundation technique.
*with FS's, setting steering to the 'hard' side of normal will make kite turn quicker or just less pull on bar to turn kite?

the unpredictability of smaller kites and higher winds always yields the potential for good stories! keep posting pics, bros, i love it!

I know exactly what you mean about the ride there and the shakes. + the scarey C kites. I always wondered am I that excited or that scared :wee:
I don't get those shakes as much as I used to but I still get those " this is a 1st " feelings a lot. The feeling from one of them can leave me with a
grin for days !!!!!
