15m Synergy

maiden flight today, sweet! Installed the kook proof leaders and stix in the yard before we left. Both stix about an inch too long. Broke out the pipe cutter, trimmed, done. Pre inflate no problems at all. Winds were WSW@ 13. Fill time was pleasing quick for an inland spot. Launch was easy, same as the Vs and Scorps. Airborn top off (total inflate) seemed faster than the Vs and Scorp.

First flight but Id say the 15 is as fast maybe faster than my 13m V. Def faster than the 16m V2 (mind you Venoms are not slow), maybe a tad bit more than the 16m Scorp. Depower was nice, turns very quick, auto zenith as advertised, stable, grunty with pop and nice float. Quality of the sail, VPC bridles, bag, etc awesome. .......very pleased at this point................

same pics but larger in the kites gallery...............

This might be too early to discuss this but what settings did you try and which one are you keeping?

Also, what's factory line length? 27M? I've recently add 3M (total 28M) per your recommendation but didn't have a chance to fly it yet.

Congrats Don, nice looking sail flying. The sod farm in intriguing me as well. A big meet up would be great if Mel can pull it off with the landowner. I've got 2 new kites to share as well.

Looks a bit wider from the leading edge to the rear than the venoms - I would imagine more floaty because of this - amazing that it can turn as fast or even faster than the venoms with it's extra width. Can't wait to hear more about it.

I've got a thread going titled Peter Lynn Reactor 4.9. Very nice kite for that mid wind range a 5m takes care of. I didn't have time to fire up the Montana yet. It goes out hopefully tomorrow or Saturday.

I could do the sod farm most any saturday except valentines weekend. I'd just do an out and back for the day to save a buck. I can be there in about 2 hours.

That red/white/blue is my pick of the colors at first glance. Angus, what color did you get? You buggy with it yet?

A question to those of you who flew other Peter Lynn kites, is Synergy that good compare to previous PL kites?

This is not a sarcastic question but I was thinking, with only 4 attach point (6 including pulleys) and "C" shape, there is not much they can change other than Aspect Ratio?

From what I heard, Synergy turns faster, right? Any other characteristics they improved from previous PL models? Rather than reading from PL website, I would like to hear from real users.

Again, this is not sarcasm but I have 10M Synergy and 15M Scorpion myself (these are my first PL kites and only flown 10M twice) and I would like to know what I have.

Im looking forward to your comments after youve flown your 10m on 28m lines. Thinner profile and the VPC have to be key in turning performance for the Syns. Your 16 turns fast too for such a big kite. Similarities between the two---VPC bridle, internal straps, did I miss anything?..................just my thoughts............

so far no complaints........I spoke with Angus yesterday about this...........build and performance awesome! Two flights, one land, one water. Water session last Friday was short but sweet, the windchill was 28 degrees (4/3 suit, booties, hood, gloves ok that's cold for here guys)...................out for about 30 mins, didnt stray too far from the beach (just in case). Upwind performance was sweet, power on/off thru the bar awesome, easy to carve/hold an edge, transitions were a bit off but kite is faster than what Im used to, and it/I was cold. No problem up and plaining in 13 kts. Bottom end maybe 10 kts on my PLYdoor, top end who knows but Id say higher than the specs call for which is 20 kts I believe. Dumped her on the front line, floated nicely to the ground. Popped some sand on her and ran back to the car to warm up/change before packing out....................

It appears Im covered with two kites from 12 to 30kts which isnt too shabby. Have to mention the Q Powerlines are sweet as well................recommend buy a spool and make your own. I made a 28m set for the arcs......................

if I had a dry suit...........saving grace the water temp was 55 degrees at the time. New kite and the forecast were the main reasons I went for it. Extremities and head were fine, feet and hands started numbing after 20 mins...................

AJ flew my Syn 15 last week in Treasure Island. 7:30 in the AM and it was thirty something degrees. He was warmer in his dry suit than were were on shore. He flew back to back with his Venom and noted the faster turning right away.

I did not get a good land session with it but will try this weekend...

Hi Brian,

Please take this with a grain of salt...Although I've flown my Venom II's for quite some time I have only flown the Synergy 19m once on the water for about 20 mins and did a little static flying with my buddy's 15m Synergy.

Turn speed is definitely improved....definitely quicker. More power at the bottom end. Easier to relaunch from the water (note - didn't try it myself,,,just saw a fellow beginner who always dunked his VII's and Synergy's)...

Heard from some instructors as well...better pop and increased hang time with the Synergy's (more floaty).

I do think the auto-zenith is a little better with the VII's. Also, I actually preferred my VII to my instructor's Synergy 19m...But, this was based on just one flight and I think it had a lot to do with the way it was tuned. Turning speed was great though...on the 15m...Whow I was impressed.

....oh, almost forgot...static flew my other buddies 12m. Now that turned really fast....

BTW....your Syn 10m looked sweet in that buggy run with the Blowkart ;-)

2nd inland, gusty session......beach was fogged in and not much wind there this morning..............headed back to the hood in North Chuck................bar tweeks are just about right, clam cleat just out of the picture, safeties deploy nicely, amsteel on the rear leaders, and 28m Q powerlines...................oh and the Synergy aint too bad either.............winds were 18 to 24 gusting and she flew very well. I moved the VPC bridle to the 2nd knot from the bottom, pulled the main strap tensioner in 3/4, and left the wing tip adjuster at half way. Noticed a big diff in sail stiffness and power while turning. Awesome kites for sure....................................

Friday offshore, 10 to 14 kts, Folly Beach county park.......great session............ as the tide drew out more sand available...............great tacks up and down the beach 1/2 mile or so, build up a little speed, nice little floaty jumps or just lean back and cruise........may have found the correct settings for my style but I have the main strap at the deflate opening pulled all the way in, wing tip straps 1/2 way, and VPC bridle second knot from bottom (away from the kite)...sail is stiff, turns fast with power, and drives upwind nicely...........will confirm on next water session.............all in all great kite:duh::thumbup::wow:

just a quick down and dirty update from Saturdays meet. Low wind performance from inflation (mother nature) to flying, grunt, speed ,etc...............were very impressive. I had 8m extensions ready to install but not required. The 15 rocked on 28m lines. Upwind easy peasy on the board in 8/9ish flakey winds. BB made some sweet passes and down-loop turns on his first time with an Arc in the buggy! Sweet machine indeed!!:duh::duh:

I had 8m extensions ready to install but not required. The 15 rocked on 28m lines. Upwind easy peasy on the board in 8/9ish flakey winds. BB made some sweet passes and down-loop turns on his first time with an Arc in the buggy! Sweet machine indeed!!:duh::duh:

I am a relative newbie on anything depower and was a little apprehensive sitting into the buggy with a 15m kite. It was easy as pie to fly, nothing snatchy, just smooth power. It is a serious kite though, once when the wind picked up, I was hitting some high enough speeds to vibrate the buggy on ground that is smooth but the lumps of grass make small bumps, and I was sliding all 3 wheels with it. I hope Angus gets a chance to fly his synergy saturday between Phreerider and I wanting turns on it.

I'm hooked on downturns in the buggy since kitedog advised me on them. I'm confident with them with my fixed bridles so they felt natural with the synergy as well. Just pull the bar in a little to make a quick turn and I'm sliding through a turn.

Epic session with the Synergy yesterday on St. Simons Island. There is a new sand bar there that is shaped like a boomerang with about a 1000' on each leg, so it presents itself well for a variety of wind directions. Johnny Laing was there to rip it up with me. The sand bar is narrow enough that it forced us on a tight upwind reach one direction and a deep broad reach the other. The Synergy handled both easily. I was clocking 20 mph upwind in a 12 mph breeze about 45 degrees off the local wind- pretty darn good. Bar pressure became quite firm at just about the point the back wheels would break loose, so it was a very comfortable trim.

Downwinders were a 30 mph park and ride with fingertip steering. I felt that I could have worked the kite for more speed but Left some margin of comfort and maneuvering room considering there were a few dogs and pedestrians. At the end of the run, the sandbar would end at the beach with an up-hill incline and a run-off into soft sand to scrub off speed. There was a considerable wind shadow there that demonstrated the kite's low wind handling well. That, along with the unobstructed full breeze at the other end of the bar gave me a great range to play with and really made me appreciate the range of the kite.

There is so much room for adjustment and trim on these kites that I know it will take a few more sessions to get it completely dialed in but I can definitely feel the potential.

I've had a few epic session on the 12m and one on the 19m so far. I will be out on the 12m today on a new board! I picked up a 142x42 decay board yesterday so today will be a great test in 15-20 winds. These kites turn so fast! I will be back on the south island tommarrow and will run the 19m thru its paces. So far i have about 12 hrs on the kites and am really stoked on them so far! Happy flying from New Zealand.....................aj
