air evolution hybrid ultra core used with a buggy?

Hi,

I recently became the owner of a 'like new' 8m air evolution hybrid ultra core. I have been buggying for a few months and fancied a getting a depower. Since I got the kite, it's been blowing a gale, so 've not been able to get out with it.

Now I know that buggying is definitely not what this kite was designed for, but will I be able to use it for a bit of occasional cruise-type buggying?

I'm not bothered about freestyle at the moment, and I have bought a landboard to try to make the most of the kite's legendary pop!

I just hope that I haven't bought a complete turkey, and will be able to use it for some buggy cruising in light to medium winds, without constantly being pulled skywards for a quick OBE!!!

Any advice/responses gratefully received!

The air evo' is by NO MEANS a turkey ! For some reason they didn't sell that great in Nort America but the kite gets great reviews.

At 8m it will not serve you in low winds. Medium to high is more like it. Good news there is that it should be forgiving in medium winds on a buggy. The trick is to fly the kite low and avoid having it lift you. When it is low you can scrub off any unwanted power that you can't spill with the trim bar.

OBE's are often a result of bad choices in kite vs. conditions or poor flying. The amount of lift just dictates how you use the engine !

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Thanks for helping to put my mind at rest!!!

As a beginner will I not want to fly this in low winds, so that I am not overpowered?

PS I am in the UK - Just like the forum!!!

It is a good size for a beginer to depower.

I hope you will get some experience on a smaller / trainer kite. This IS a full blown depower kite. Working things out on it will be hard on the kite and possibly your body !

Well, I know its quite different, but I do feel pretty competent on fixed bridles. Had a 3.6m beamer out today in v. gusty 30mph+ winds (static flying and jumping), without probs.

No depower experience, but will take it very steady to begin with!!:wee:

you have a sweet kite, stable, grunty with pop and float............... I had the 10m X Air..........................Bladerunner called it........ keep her low and control the speed and power thru the bar. You have two sets of knots on the rear lines, one set for hooked, the other unhooked. Great kites they are!

I just linked an incredible video of the Air Evolution Team.

How does the "Unique Trailing Edge Flap System (Works like the flaps on a plane creating uplift)" exactly work on these?

Can you control it, or is it static? Or change with angle or air pressure? Any comparison to FS jets?
