since i dont know how to snowboard,ive been using a sled and being shot across a big field with my beamer 3.0 or my speedfoil 3x on windier days......try it--its a blast!!!!:wee: those sledders sure must be tired walking up that giant hill all day!!ive been out here 3 hrs and im just getting warmed up!! keep the snow a comin:singing:

We don't have enough snow cover on our local lakes, but I wonder if you couldn't edge with them on some windpacked powder using a kite to actually do a reach instead of just being dragged downwind.

It's great with the circles, you dive through the powerzone and to the side of the window and back, and it drags you in a Z downwind =D

I got one of these for Xmas last year and ended up returning it. I don't think it would work well for kiting at all because your stance on that sled. I also found it to be an EXTREMELY uncomfortable sitting position in the sled. All of your weight is resting on your knees and you are sort of sitting on your feet. It just didn't work for me at all. I also think that you'd really need some powder to be able to control the sled. It just wants to spin around on hardpack.

Have you tried inflatable snow tubes? How are those?

I just found this site and a post near and dear to my heart. I have tried allkinds of sleds with and without my kites most recently a ''''snow boogie" very similar to the "Rocket". It does steer in powder and hardpack but like the other it is not some thing to fly with all day. There is an alternative that I have been working on. I have a "snowspider" its a set of down hill skis with a frame , seat and foot steering control. It looks like a starwars sand racer. Im on my 4th version now and the next one should incorporate all the best atributes of these. Ill be at Kitestorm in Vermont , USA. Feb 21+22 with 3 of them testing them out. If I can figure out how to post pictures I show you. One of them turns sharp enough to come sliding in sideways just like sking. one turns much slower which im hoping will will work well for high speed lake cruising , we shall see. Ill keep you posted.

last year toward the end of the ice season I was doing about 35mph on slightly bumpy ice with my dearly departed 5m beamer and I could have gone faster but Im not as young and dumb as i used to be. Ill go faster when I get some more experience with it I planted my beamer in a tree in way to much wind turning way to slow along the edge of Onondaga lake Syracuse NY USA .

The PL "kitesled" is pretty amazing ,If you read his description of how his runners work it is definetly not a home grown project. I came at the problem from a sking backround and just recreated the actions of a skier. The skis tip on edge in a controlled manner while also angling toward the the intended direction. Mine is mainly wood with alum. and stainless hardware.Once I get it right I will build it with stainless tubing. The wood makes it a little more flexable than I like. Have fun ,stay out of the trees.

sledding on a kite is soo much fun....especially if you are able to go UP HILL....then pack the kite and SLED DOWN>...


Not hard to do at all and will be the talk of town if you are in a place that makes sledding uphill as much fun as sledding down hill!

Some more interesting sleds - some that fold, but maybe too narrow for traction

lad Ive got one of those red ones ,exellent for down hill controll on packed powder,it's somewhat ok for kiting. Its a much less costly version of a "Hammer Head" sled. I tow it with the spider, makes mad fun for my 10 year old kid.

Last kiting session we had on the Tug Hill, the conditions were frozen crust over ice, and since my snowboard skills need work, I couldn't hold an edge, so I strapped a 39" snow tube to my butt with a bungee cord, and launched the 8M. I shot downwind with good speed, squealing like a schoolchild! I brought the kite back over the top and shot around like a water skier being towed by a boat! Thats when the tube caught some crust and blew out! As it was still strapped to my butt, and still slick as the ice I was sliding on, I kept going, had to pull my bell to crash the kite so I could stop!:wee:My sides still hurt from laughing!
