spreader bar setup mod
I have a Dakine harness with clips that hold the spreader bar to the harness, problem is that I got a Peter Lynn bar with a roller, but it doesn't
work with the clips. I've been using the roller bar by running the straps directly through the ends of the bar which is a bit more work getting into
and out of the harness, but it works okay. Now that i have a depower again, I want to be able to switch between the roller and the hook without much
fuss.
Can the clips be cut down to fit the PL bar? or what about modifying the ends of the of the PL by welding on a new loop that fits the clips? other
ideas?
here is a pic

pic didn't work for me either. But my roller bar has a bungie on it. I put the chicken loop in the roller and bring the bungie up and loop it on the
roller. Works good I haven't come un-hooked yet.

You could cut the clips down if you wanted the convenience of them. All PL harnesses and spreader bars are sized for direct attachment with webbing.
Even the Mystic Spinning spreader bar attachments are too narrow for the clips on the upper end Mystic harnesses. No problem to toos the clips and
use webbing direct.
I mention this because I have had customers refuse such bars, thinking that clips are a quick-release safety feature - a very dangerous misconception.

Hey Sailors,
Got a Dakine harness?
You must use a Dakine spreader.
Other brands don't fit.
Yes you can cut and weld and hack and saw.
It's a free country.
Simplest solution is to buy a Dakine spreader.
Don't forget the Dakine spreader pad.
Pissed me off I couldn't mix and match.
I have limited options and need to make things work.
Finally realized their point.
Folks hang from their gear.
That implies a dependability that they choose to take seriously.
I find no fault with that attitude.
This way they know what they offer and what it can do.
Start mixing and matching and who knows what you've got?
So life goes on.
Buy the spreader or sell the harness.
I think I read this in a book...

Dazkitez- That's a great idea and probably the easiest. Do you have pic?
Acampbell- Thanks for the info. I've been using the PL connected directly to the webbing- it work fine but is not as easy to get in and out of the
harness. Why can't they just make these things universal?
Corey- I know that the Dakine roller would work, I just happen to like the PL design a bit better and it's also what I already have I see your point though about a company have unique sizing to maintain a certain
quality standard- I'd never thought of it that way before.

***DISCLAIMER*** Do this mod at your own risk!!!
You can adapt the Dakine harness to work with the PL spreader. What you will need to do is to file/grind down the front bent over flap on the top and
bottom of the Dakine power clip on each side just enough to fit in the PL Spreader. Usually it will only take about 1/4" on top and bottom to get it
to work. I know of several people who have done so with no problems that I know of or have heard. The material that is cut off usually doesn't
compromise the strength of the clips at all (or at least very minimal) but I am NOT endorsing the strength in any way. Once you mod the clips you can
use both the PL spreaders as well as the Dakine ones.
Again do this at your own risk and make sure to test the harness under non-dangerous conditions first to make sure everything is good and that you are
safe.
