Has anyone watched -Power Kiting - How to guide dvd?

I don't have anyone to teach me so I was wondering if this would help my learning curve. It's 40.00 though and that's money I would rather save toward more gear unless it is awesome. Here's the preview link.

I recommend the Fatsands new Progressions Landboarding DVD. Good presentation, good video.

I have "The Ultimate Book Of Powerkiting And Kiteboarding" by Jeremy Boyce if you are interested. It is a 160 color book with tons of good info. It goes through the history of powerkites and how to properly fly, buggy, landboard and go on the water. Do a google search for it for more info. great book for beginners as well as seasoned kiters.

It is in excellent shape-$15 with shipping.

The power kiting video is really good. Lots of great tips for beginners to advance stuff. Well worth the money, you'll use it for years but the Brits talk funny...lol

Do you live in an area where other power kiters gather? Even one's you don't personally know? Books and videos are a great resource, but having an actual person there is a very big plus, particularly if you're doing something potentially dangerous.

In my experience, most kiters will gladly show you more than a few pointers, and point you in the right direction.

It's one of things refreshing about this sport - Unlike sports such as surfing, skating, or even mountainbiking, I've never seen any animosity ever expressed towards "newbees". Practically everyone I've ever met in this sport has always been gracious and willing to share what they know.

Not sure where you live, but if its anywhere near a beach, dry lake bed, big grassy field, frozen lake, etc... go out on a breezy sunny day (right after reading your book or watching your video). You're bound to spot one of us sooner or later.

I have that DVD and it is great in terms of comprehensivity (if that's a word). It covers all sorts of disciplines and gear but doesn't have a ton of "how to" if I recall. Wolfee has it right now so maybe he can do a quick re-review of it and see what kind of "how to" it has in it. Otherwise the best learning will come from doing and sharing with other kiters either in person (best) or here (worked for me). I still have a pile to learn but everyone here is helping immensely and the local crew is great for me in terms of learning by example......examples like a 2m kite in nuking winds being a bad idea ; )

I haven't checked myself (never occurred to me to check) but you might find something valuable online at ovguide.com. Just do a search and you might find something.

Oh, and howtokiteboard.com has some good stuff to sift through.

HQ also has DVDs available, but are specific to only one area (above).

I have found a few kiter about 5-6 hours away, but none here so far. It could be the frigid weather that is keeping people indoors though I am more of a visual learner, so I don't think a book will do it for me, but thank you.

Racekites.com site has a good how to forum and that is what I used when starting. However nothing beets gettin out and gaining experiance. Local flyers are great and try to find some if you can.

"Nuking" wind is really strong, and\or gusty wind.

Its a relative term. Depending on experience, kite size, and possibly intelligence level. :wink2: (see youtube video of guy trying to kitesurf in hurricane force "nuking" wind)

And why is a 2 meter bad in "nuking" wind?

Because, though the general rule is "stronger wind = smaller kite", there's also this to consider.

Smaller kite = FASTER kite

Bigger wind = WAY FASTER kite

Smaller kite = jerkier pull

Faster kite = more pull

Bigger wind = Gustier wind

Gusty wind + jerky pull + REALLY FAST kite = Nearly unpredictable power that can go from nothing at all, to really strong pull, and back.

End result..... A really fast, super jerky, nearly uncontrollable kite that will more than likely jerk you off your feet with sudden power surges - slam into the ground, bursting the cells in your kite - and generally giving you a REALLY bad day.

Bucky- i thought that your explanation about small kites in big winds was very well thought out......excellent! and by the way its quite easy to get yourself mangled in these conditions as the kite can snatch you so fast--theres no time to react , ie. let go of handles----best thing is dont even fly in those conditions:shocked2:
