Mayor's Welcome to BuggyTown 2009

Hey Sailors,
It's happening again!

Welcome to BuggyTown 2009!
We've been waiting for you.

The playa is hard and dry and the weather looks like it'll be just fine for this year's extravaganza.

Couple of considerations to help ensure a quality BuggyTown experience:
1. Please set camps right up to the old access road ruts.
2. The pits will be the area immediately in front of Buggytown.
3. No kites, buggies or landsailers in the car park area.
4. Please bag your kite when grounded in the pits. This helps keep lines on the ground and your kite from getting snagged or blown around.
5. Speed limit (for automobiles only) is 30 mph on the access road and 5 mph in Buggytown.

There is no Sheriff of Buggytown (We don't need no stinkin' badges) so every one of us needs to be responsible.
Help prevent problems from even occurring.

You'll be living in a town populated by some of your best friends - Even if you've never met them before.

Bring your good karma and share your love.

In regards to speed limit in town, please, each of you, if you see someone going fast in town, let them know that we go slow once we get home.

Please act as an ambassador to our sport, and help newbies learn that we each bare a responsibility to help each other put on a great public face.

Be kind to strangers.

No moop allowed(matter out of place). There are no trash cans. Pack it in, pack it out.

If it does not go through your body, do not put it in the potty!

Help us, help you, help each other.

aoxo soon come!

Mayor Lama,
Sorry I missed you on my Vegas Excursion at the end of last month. I would like to see a real kite shop. We don't have too many down here in Louisiana. I was touring a couple that had never been to Vegas, so we had a pretty full agenda. I took them up to Mt. Charleston to see some snow and made the Red Rock auto tour. Just a few of the things people going to Vegas don't realize are so close by. The strip and downtown took up the rest of the time.
Lama, Dean, Claxton and all others involved in putting on NABX, thanks for your efforts and looking forward to being there. It is getting close!
I have my shot cars cleaned and ready. I built a dozen more for this years' event. Crash's video has a shot car race segment. (Great film, Crash!). In case anyone has any questions, the kids are using kid fuel for their cars. That is the beauty of the shot car races. Your fuel can be of your choosing, doesn't have to be alcohol based (my understanding, hope I am not mis-quoting AASCRA rules). I prefer the alcohol fuels myself.
Counting down.............................................................................................................

Hey elvislives,
Check out the "shot car Racing " post. We have a new event for shot cars this year.....it is an exhibition event called "Best of Show" for Shot Car sets.
Bring your best and dress them up for the show........
Looking forward to racing again !

Just a quick question to Mr. Mayor Lama.
Is there a Sheriff of Buggy town?
I will gladly volunteer as a deputy if needed.
This being my first time at this great event, I too am ready with a shot car of my own.
I couldn't get out and ride this weekend due to the rain so I went to Rip's place and he helped me change over my tires to smoothies and I painted my number plates and got my decals all in place in prep for NABX

I am so stoked about it, its all I can think of.
See you all NOT soon enough!

Hey Ken that is the nicest number plates I have seen. Great job. Now what is the black material? I tried and ABS sheet and it gets brittle and stickers have a hard time staying on. Sorry for the thread detour.

Hey Jon! (and also sorry for the thread detour)
That is very high praise coming from you...thank you.
The material is from one of those computer chair floor mats (some sort of plastic) that you put down on carpet so your chair will roll.
It stays quite flexible
I spray painted the back side of it only with a dupont auto bumper paint.
I guess time will tell how long it holds up but sure looks good eh?
I got this idea from Dirtslide as he has them on his PL bug.

See you in a couple of weeks

I thought it was from that semi stiff foam that would be used for protection ?

I just looked down at MY floor mat. It has pointy things to grab the carpet ! :shocked2: :singing:

Great job! I think I'll be proud to borrow it! ;-) ;-)

Leave that spot above the Uturn sticker open for you NABX sticker . It is perfect.

nabx and the playa location provides an opportunity to try something different. Or do things a different way.
Authority figures (and our response) is a good example.
Out on the playa we are often the only people for miles.
How we act when there is no one to answer to but ourselves, no one to be responsible to, no one to make us tow some line...
Well, that can say a lot about a person.
It can have an influence on how we grow this sport.
It can influence how we grow as people.

I figure I can get good at this (being a better person) if I have a chance to practice.
It's a major issue, but hiding it inside kiting and buggying allows me freedom to try with little consequence.
Opportunity and practice.
I can get good at this.

So it depends on how you look at things...
Either there is no "sheriff" of BuggyTown or each one of us takes a bit of the responsibility and helps keep BuggyTown a wonderful place to live for a week.

If we want to live in that world... We each have to be that person.
