I went out to Ivanpah to check out NABX on Saturday. Not a great day for wind. I saw a lot of folks sitting on the playa working on their tans while
they waited for the wind to come back.
But as a complete novice, I found everyone very approachable helpful. I brought my dog, who is always a good ice-breaker. We made the rounds and I
stopped to check out the newest fire engine red Ivanpah buggy that Kent from A Wind of Change brought out to demo.
I got some power kite 101 instruction from Shannon and Rob, a nice couple from Vegas (I just picked up my first 2.0 Beamer to practice with a couple
of weeks ago).
After I went back to my truck to water my dog, two different people let me take runs around the playa in their BloKarts (Thanks Don, from PA! I guess
I have to start saving up for one of those too 'cause they are so much fun!). Also, thanks to Santi Oliver from Spain for the BloKart lessons. I had
no idea that he had just dominated the BloKart races the week before until I got home and looked up the results.
I also met the Dutch Team and got to check out their record setting buggies.
Before I went home, Eric from Tucson, AZ put on a clinic that started to draw a crowd with my Alpha Two stunt kite. It was like handing my guitar
over to Eddie Van Halen, so he could "check it out". LOL. Man, there is so much to learn in this sport!
:wee:
