Hi ardrouin. I have flown the Beamer III 3m and I own a Beamer IV 3m. The Beamer IV does have some improvements over the Beamer III's but IMHO, I dont think these improvements are worth the extra money for a first kite right now. I would save the extra few dollars and get the Beamer III series for now and save the extra money for your next kite.

Both kites are very good beginner kites. If it were me buying my first power kite, I would get the III series and save the left over money for my next kite or some safety gear like a helment and knee pads.

Just my thoughts, I am sure others will chime in with theirs as well.

revpaul and sandman make a good point. You can get a decent elbow and knee pad set at walmart for like $20. A skate style helmet will work. Trust me, it sucks to have to tell your non-flying friends that you got your a$$ handed to you by a kite and watch them snicker.

...and you should expect to get a good discount on the B III since it is is being phased out for the IV. The IV model added dirt-outs in the wing tips and some refinements to the sail, but the III is a great kite that will give you years of good service.
