Hey guys, i'm back

Hey,

I came on here for advice back in November, have finally got the money to buy a kite, which is good :).

I have been playing with my mates Rage 3.5, which is awesome. I am toying with the idea of a 4.7 but am scared its going to be sluggish and boring compared to the 3.5....

could anyone shed a little light on the matter?

Depends on what you are doing with it. In my buggy, it was a blast at 15mph. On the board it needed a little more. Static I picked the Blade.

Flexi Rage 1.8m, Jojo RM 3m, Flexi Blurr 3.5, Flexi Blade 4.0m, Flexi Blade 4.9m, Flexi Blurr 5, Jojo RM 6m

WHAT I RIDE:
Kite Skates, Libre Full Race, GI Conflict 106, OR Mako 140, Spleene Door 159

What I Am In The Market For: Peter Lynn Vapors, Weatherproof Kite Buggy Bag for Libre, PL or Flexi Small Buggy to Tow With, Flexi Pro Link Handles, Flexi Lines, Flexi Kite Killers

I would certainly not call the 4.7 Rage sluggish or boring, even compared to the 3.5. Sure in the same winds it will be a bit slower iand slower in the turns, but not by much, and it will certainly have more pull. You will have a lower bottom end of wind range for sure, which is pretty much the entire point of moving up a size.

My 10.8 meter Reactor turns a lot slower than my 4.9m Reactor, but there is certainly nothing boring about flying the 10.8!!

I think you want to figure out exactly what you are hoping to accomplish and tell us. How much you can afford is also helpfull.

Typically at your stage you are just interested in flying and pulling off jumps ? Not moving in to a ride ?

Around here a 5m kite will get you the most flyable days from one kite. It is JUST big enough to get some float from a jump ( normal weight ). Just small enough that you can fly the heck out of it to create power in low winds.

The thing is ...... just flying SEEMS like the biggest thrill in the world. The truth is ...... the fun just starts when you start using the kite as a wing and go places.

Let us know what You and your Bud' may end up riding ( I suggest ATB at 1st ) and we can make actual kite suggestions.

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Hmmm....

I weigh 13 stone and will be using the kite directly on the coast mainly. Want to buggy eventually but we are looking at getting an ATB or those weird off road skates first. Have been learning to scud and pendulum jump so far but the 3.5 can't really lift me too high (bout 2 foot in 20mph or so winds) so i thought the 4.7 would be quite "safe" for me.

I have a fairly forgiving budget of £300

The 4.7 sounds like a GREAT next step then !!!! It's nice to have the same brand in different sizes.

The Rage produces a bit better downwind pull than lift for jumps but works O.K.. ( no kite does it all ) Beware !!!! because it pulls more downwind , if a jump goes bad LET GO !!!! This kite can slam you rather than lift you once in a while. Let go before that happens.

Okay, i have just been having a sneaky look on Ebay, and the HQ beamer seems to be a good £100 cheaper than the equivalent rage...

Could someone tell me why there is such a price difference here? is it worth my while spending £100 more?

edit: argh just seen a review for the flow, which looks cool. choices choices choices

HQ have always made keeping the cost to the consumer down part of the plan. Their product has gotten better and better from the year they entered the power kiting market.

There product is very good now but they are still a bit of an underdog to Flexifoil and Ozone. These 2 sort of set the benchmark for quality and have always been a bit more pricey.
