Hello, newbie here, just saying hi!

Hello all. I've just found this forum and hope to get some useful info from it. I've just ordered a small Eolo Radsail 145 power kite to test the water with. Hehe, compared to what I have seen on this forum already, it sounds quite tiny. Still, the last time I flew a kite, I was 9 yrs old (30 now, gutted), so hopefully I can use it to get the basics of kite flying. I would like to know though if anyone on here could give me some idea on what I should be progressing to if I find that I like this power kiting? I don't want to go crazy as my other hobbies seem to kill my wallet anyways but am wondering what sort of size I should be looking for? Cheers all, oh, I live in Lossiemouth, Morayshire by the way and saw a couple of kites on the West beach last night. If anyone in Lossie is on this forum, please say hello.

A radsail 145 will be good to get you used to the wind window and controling a kite. You will find it very different to anything you have flown before. If fling a 2 string on its own use 2 bags of sand on bottom edge and when ready just pull off. When going for a 4 line one go for something like a 3 mtr beamer or buster. The beamer has just brought out a new version and have heard some of the old version going cheap and the old version is a very very good kite. Next time you see local flyers out go have a word and you will find them helpful. All the best and welcome to the world of power kites and small bank balance as one kite is never enough.

hello and welcome! beamer 3m would probably be supported by the consensus around here--i have one,its a great kite.......one thing--be very careful--even small power kites can be very dangerous in the wrong hands or the wrong conditions....just take it slow and you'll be ok.......another warning: FLYING POWER KITES IS ADDICTING!!! well, got to go the winds are blowing time for the old kite to take me for a walk lol:singing::singing::singing::singing::singing::singing:

Thanks for the quick replies. Gonna start browsing for the beamer 3m now then. I can't wait to get some wind and get down the beach but I will defo take heed of your warnings. Some of the videos on youtube look pretty insane. Thanks again.

Hey newtokites
good to see you post on here. it would be a bit of a trip coming from Lossiemouth across the pond but everyone would make you feel welcome. I've buggied and kiteboarded around Scotland a fair amount of time when I'm over and if you head over to Nairn area you'll find a lot of guys kiteboarding that area and a group of buggiers in your area and down around Balmedie north of Aberdeen. But you've got great areas close by.
Big gang down in St. Andrews and a few other places - you can also post on tractionkiting.co.uk and there is a kitehighland group as well. Good to check information from all over the place - may be spread out all over the world but it's really just one big family - with a few different accents.
Cheers

Cheers all. Went out today and, although it wasn't really windy, I managed a good hour with the 145. I think I'm hooked. Can't wait to get a larger kite ordered and get dragged about a bit. Definately need a good wind for the smaller ones don't you?
