Advice on what kit for a new starter
Greetings everyone.
I'm realy enthusiastic about getting in to power kiting. There are loads of sites giving info.
What would be good kit to learn on that would not need to be upgraded within a couple of weeks?. Because that sounds like what has happened to quite
a few people and the party funds are limited so a kite that will see me through to intermediate status would be good.
Please impart some wisdom. :D

Well I started with a HQ Beamer 3.6 which saw me through the first 3 months of my power kiting adventure.
Then bought a PKD Buster 2.0 for the autumnal winds, added a bunch of ProTeam8/Super10 for the REALLY windy days and have now bought a Mac Bego 600
for days with little or no wind.
So what do you want to start with...
Well a 3-4m kite would give you a good feel for the sport and not cost you too much if you decide you don't like it (which won't happen:D)
This gives a good wind range for learning and can probably stay in your bag for a while - I usually fly my Beamer first givent he choice but now
whenever I want to go I want to be able to fly something:D
If you decied having the first kite means you want to buy more you cna do so as and when funds are available - now I've got what I have I'm
not buying any more - 7 kites in 7 months is definitely enough :o
To be honest whatever you buy you will want something else pretty soon its just what...the 3-4m kites will allow you to learn the basics and have fun
in higher winds when you get better, and will also stay up in light winds, good to learn but not a lot of fun after a while.
Hope that helps rather than hinders...

My advice for what it's worth is to pick up a well-cared for second-hand Flexifoil Bullet. You will always return to it no matter what kites you
add to your collection in the future. These foils are very well mannered and you can't beat the build quality.

A lot of people really like the HQ Beamer. I was going to buy one except that a large number of people recommended that I buy nicer lines and handles
(they are changing a few things for 05, but I don't know what). Well, by the time I did that the Samurai wasn't much more, so I went with
the Samurai. The bullet is supposed to be comprable. If budget is a factor then I would definitely look at the HQ beamer and the Ozone little devil
(the Samurai is a newer model and costs more, but thte Little Devil is still good). As far as which size- well, activity and size comes into
consideration. If I were to own only one power kite I would buy a 4 meter (I'm 6'2" and weigh around 100kg). So, there are some more
considerations.

Thanks for the replies. I'm 6'3" and 105Kg so sounds
like from what you are saying that a 3 to 4 metre kite would do it.
Any more advice is welcome

Well, my first 4 line was the 5 meter Samurai. I had a lot of experience with dual line foils, though, which I still use as my high wind kites. I
don't know your experience, but I would shoot for the 4ish range. If you have experience, you might look at 4-4.5, if not I would look at the
3.5-4 range.

Well, I know that you can get a small (1.2 I think) HQ symphony for relatively cheap (dual line- in the U.S. they're less than $50 so I would put
it around 30 GBP). You might want to pick up one of those and get the basics down before you go for the bigger one. You'd probably be fine
going straightaway with a 3.5ish, but BE CAREFUL your first trips out. With what else I have added above, that about does it for me.

I have found a 4m Blade 2 which the owner wants 225 pounds for.
Does this sound about the right kite for me and the right price?
I am 6'3" and about 105 Kg. :puzzled:

I'm only new - haven't flown yet - but from the posts that I've been reading recently (and that's lots), and the advice that I've been given Flexifoil
Blades are the best to go for, and 4m is about perfect for a newbie - so that kite sounds superb.
£225 seems about fair
Like I said, I'm only a noob tho! (with a 2nd hand Beamer 5.0 - mint for £115 inc)

I too am new. I sought a lot of advice and was recommended the Beamer 3.6 or 5.0 (I'm about 13.5 stone). Seems that these are the best combination
of cost to performance/quality.
I wanted something that I could progress with, aiming to do buggying in due course. As such, I got the Beamer 5.0 Doesn't seem to be too much to
handle, being a little slower in the air than its smaller brother (or sister?).
Cost - the Beamer 5 can be had for approx. £150 and the 3.6 from £125 if you shop around.
The price you have been quoted for the Blade seems about right but then you can get several extras with the additional £75 - £100 if you go for the
Beamer.
I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.

I got my Beamer 5 and I'm happy with it.
In next to no wind it was pulling me along
In light wind it lifted me off of the ground (13st 2lbs)
In heavier winds .... haven't tried yet

Have not bought my kite yet as job situation got in the way this month . The blade 2 i was looking at went on ebay for 165 finally so I was gutted to
miss that one. Will be back in the market soon.
Thanks to everyone replying to this post so far.

You can pick up bargain Beamers, saw a 5m new for £135 at the moment because the new Beamer 2 has just been launched, if you can get one go for it.
