Already own a speed jacket with body armor incorporated in to it.
However, as I found out, it does not protect my ribs very well.
Looking for some form of rib protection, so I don't have another session like I did on this past Thursday (two broken ribs and one emergency room visit.)

Any thoughts, opinions?

Just the torso or do you want something that extends to the shoulder/arms?

Suitable for warm weather (ventilated)?

Check flea-bay. sixsixone stuff all over there for good prices. I picked up a core saver for $40 shipped (those are like $130 new.) I feel your pain on the ribs thing. I did either 3 or 4 of them (don't know for sure-laid off with no medical so I never went to the doc.) I have a dent and a lump there now. Sneezing sucks.

Heliboy you have access to a walk in clinic? You need to get some sort of pain control (That's my professional opinion too ICU Nurse). Percocet or the like will allow you to breath deeper, reducing the risk of pneumonia.
Also, if you can place a pillow, or your hand over the affected ribs with a slight to moderate amount of pressure, it will also help reduce the pain a little.

Rest up man, and hiccups should be outlawed! :bouncy:

There is a lot of new "impact gel - 3DO" protectors out there now - soft, flexible pads that become solid upon impact.

The boo-boo was like 3 months ago. OK now and wiser. Bad gusties, no body else around, NO HELMET(dumb a$$.) I got a lecture from the other half about the whole thing. On the plus side, when I got KO'd during the mishap, that caused me to let go of the handles since evidently conscious thought didn't:D I even drove myself 4 blocks back home (no cell phone either) and don't even remember doing it. Can we say "healthy dose of respect" ? Besides, I can't really take pain meds anyway. Huge and bad mood swings, and in re-hab anyway (oops again.) BACK to the original subject: The hard thing with armor is finding something that will provide protection without being too cumbersome, because then you never end up wearing it. To me, especially looking back on my incident, our brain is our first and best protection system. I think I left mine at home that day. I don't know anything about the impact gel stuff- might have to look into that.

I have popped my rib so many times that it just goes out with a small push now. I put it out again at NABX. I have found that I don't notice the pain while kiting but pay BIG TIME after ! My harness irritates it.

Currently Spyder is the only company that I know of that makes a d3o jacket for the general public, but that runs north of $300-$350. Hence the comment about sponsered skiers getting custom protective suits that extensively use the material.

seanrmz, how is the lateral rib protection on your 6-6-1?

661 has several different types from what I have seen The lateral rib protection seems to have a gap in it to me. I will post a pic of mine, if you like.

The forearm/elbow pads are a separate deal, but they are really nice- they run about $40 themselves but are the nicest I have seen. I have a lot of time invested in my hide-sleeve tattoos that I would really like to keep- so they were kind of a must for me. The core saver is, I think, an older model. The new ones have linked hard armor down the spine. Same stuff as on the shoulders of mine, and they don't have as long or as heavily padded of sleeves.

My Rockgardn top is quite similar, with only a velcro band for the waist and ribs. I would think some kind of thin, horizontal bands of armor (or impact gel stuff) could wrap around there, and still give you flexibility. I was even thinking of sewing/velcroing something like that in there.
