What's gotten into Bladerunner?

hehehehe

I was gonna ask in another topic but figured it deserved it's own thread completely. I'd love to hear the story of your transformation Bladerunner. As a guy with a full suite of arcs to play with yet still with a lingering curiosity for the Flysurfer family I wonder what you can offer in terms of who/how/what/where/why you're making the change - and so wholeheartedly at that I must say! Your enthusiasm is infectious :singing:

I saw A Discovery channel type show on Corry Roesler and his kiteski. The seed was set it was about 1999. Some time later I saw the Red Bull King of the air video right when I needed a change. I took 3 lessons the next spring. Bought a trainer then a blimp from my instructor. I failed at getting up after my lesson that summer . The next summer I bought a 16m blimp so I would have enough power in our light winds. I found out that summer I can't surf at all. Chances to get out in safe tides were too few and I felt stuck. I got about 80 -100 hours depower flying time in and had my kite flying down.

I took to trying my rollerblades on a big parking lot near home and it was just so natural. I was over the top happy. I knew I could use the wind as taught.

Pablo took me by the hand and intruduced me to all the wonders of land kiting. That year I went to the Montana snowkite rodeo and took to the snowking with only my 3m and 4.5 foils. I met Keith Kalio ( R.I.P. ) and saw that the whole game can be played. I wanted to learn everything so I could ride anything. Like Keith!

I bought a 12m F-arc as my 1st crossover kite. The F-arc was a monster and a bit too technical a kite. I used it on water and snow ( until I got tea bagged ) but never felt safe enough to use it on land in any kind of wind. Launching was a pain. Landing was usually a crash.

My original instructor had moved through Arcs to Flysurfer and so I bought a 10m Phsycho 2 for land. All I had a chance to fly was the 18m arc he had and it was slow . Fergus was always 1st out with his 26m P2 Long before an arc would fill.

To own a Flysurfer is to see and feel the quality. The P2 was a great kite but still a bit unforgiving and I was always a bit nervous under it. When I heard on here about how great the pulse was I set out to buy one. I actually rush-purchased a speed1.5 in my excitement. Powerzone STRONGLY suggested I go to a pulse. Knowing my wimpy style and preferance for land.

The 7m Pulse was the 1st kite I ever felt completely relaxed under !!!! Great feedback and forgiving ! The 13m P3 was perfect for taking my 1st good jumps.

I actually traded off the 2 Guerillas and gave NPW a beat up old S-arc That I eventually got from my instructor. My opinion was that P.L. and arcs are great but was still gaga for FS.

There was a BIG gap in the generation of arcs that I got to fly back when and the arcs today. It would seem.
As soon as I got to terms with the Charger it was clear it wasn't the same. Not unlike my 1st runs with the 7m Pulse I just new this kite fit my style.

I have had the great fortune of having fantastic friends here. Not unlike the Nor Cal gang it has always been about everyone sharing everything. People like Pablo , Rip' and Solaris have brought in some very unique kites while the rest of us seem to own a bit of evrything else.

I am not a practiced archaholic yet. I just know I liked the Charger well enough to trade out my 13.

I am behind Richard and supporting Him as he lives our dream !!!!

Now that Ripsessionkites has Peter Lynn as a product I feel I can join as a team rider knowing I can get behind the Product. The other products are great but the other 2 S-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s are better at showing off the fixed bridles.

Even if I'm wrong, I KNOW that the Reactor and other products have the seal of approval around here . I can get behind P.L. product and not feel I'm turning my back on Flysurfer. They are a different high. They don'y offer a fixed bridle range ?

I'm not in a hurry to sell the Pulse but I'm looking forward to my next sip of Arc !

I'm expecting my 2 BIG c-quads and a 16m Scorpian today !!!!!! :Ange09:

Wow dude - that's more than I would have ever imagined - thanks so much for sharing the full story....that's awesome.

I must confess, I asked because I value your opinions greatly and have a good deal of respect for you. When I saw you unloading your Flysurfers I had to really think long and hard about my wishes for a Flysurfer to play with. The reality is I think I do indeed want/need one but it's for a single purpose and that is to get me flying on those light wind days where there's wind but just not enough to get the Peter Lynns off the ground. If I had any frustration with the PLs that would be the only one. Sure, they take a minute or two more to set up and get up but I don't mind that since they stay up once they're there. The light wind thing though, I wish they were better for it but they just aren't. So, a big Flysurfer is on my wishlist.

Am I sound in my perceived wants and needs here or should I stand by you and stick to the arcs?

Ha Ha,

I'm pretty sure that flying and riding everything I can get my hands on is still the goal !!

I'm not sure about how things work for Rip' now ? I won't ever get sponsored at that level by P.L. but I want to support Rip's efforts !

YES, right from day 1 when I saw Fergus out on the 26m I was pretty sure I was seeing something special.

Flysurfer is a good choice for the low winds. No doubt about it!
