I was wondering about what people think of these.

I just got a pair from Don and tried them at Wildwood on some of my dinkier trainer kites (it was WINDY, I didn't know my 2.2 Ballistic could do such fast propeller spins!). I haven't tried them on bigger kites, like my 5m Beamer yet.

I've heard others say they take time to get used to, but I took to them immediately. I've only used generic and HQ standard handles before, so I don't know how they compare to some of the Flexi, Ozone, etc. But I can say these are about perfect for me.

My hand's are a problem for me (it figures that I wouldn't get into traction sports until after my knuckles blew-out!). The grips have softer, thicker foam in an elliptical profile that's much more comfortable for me. The separated power line attachment certainly helps too. The brake line set-up is very logical (if I ever get around to using kite killers!).

If I don't eventually switch to all-depower, and/or a Turbo Bar, I might get another pair of these.

They are legitimate handles, yet I'm not much for them, I own a pair, yet don't use them any more and really, can't think where they might be hidden at the moment...

The subject of what handles to use is pure PP (personal preference)... My PP is the new Flexifoil handles, they are absolutely phenomenal, in strength, comfort and design, and as for the HQ's I prefer the standard foam ones...

Edited I've heard that these HQ ultra quad handles have had issues with the strop piggies :piggy: pulling out... I'll try and confirm and repost on that...

I've used those handles once or twice, and personally prefer the standard ones. The Flexi handles are pretty amazing. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Flexifoil ones.

I've seen a guy using Flexis once, but never tried them myself - maybe I'd prefer them too. They do look tough.

But I still don't understand how others prefer the harder feeling type handles. Different Strokes... I guess - (and maybe a good set of gloves!)

I agree that the Ultra piggie lines look a little meager - tho' it may be a while before I get around to trying a strop on them anyway. You could just Larks Head a nicer strop over the handles themselves, esp. with the powerline offset the way it is.

If I find them I'll email you, I believe I modded them with a pulley system for larger kites but I'll get you photos and let you checS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-em out, they go back to normal very easily...

I can confirm the strop piggies pulling out. I have had a few pairs do it to me. the line did not break it just pulled the knot through the handle. I put them back through the handle and tied a bigger knot. I don't remember if I had a problem after that but I never really trusted them too much either. I think I still have a used set or two laying around here somewhere if Screwy can't find his let me know.

Other than that they are good handles.

I had the same prob with mine sort of. The attachment lines were of a soft almost yacht braid line. I just cut the line off, drilled out the holes, and used 3/8 inch gray amesteel for the leader and strop. No prob since, and I use these handles every time I fly. I like the finger protection they give me, and I can really get on top of them for heavy breaking.

Nice to see I'm not alone here.... I guess we both put a high value on finger comfort. But it looks like I'll eventually have to futz with the cords on these things.
