Kite Trike 2

Any reviews on the kite trike 2?
It's at Paragliders.com for 299.00

I think this will be my first bug. Pretty good price if it holds up for learning and small field use.

they said they offer a lifetime replacement policy if the failure is due to manufacturing/design flaws.

Anyway, replacement items should be easy enough to get from them.

I searched the forum here and found some reading about an older one here that may be a copy but nothing new has been written.

Looks exactly like the kite trike 1 I have. It is ok but be prepared to need those replacement parts. I have only ridden a couple of times and have replaced 2 buckles on the seat and one strap has pulled off the seat. the ground clearance is very low and occasionaly my butt hits the ground. It also rusts which can be helped with a little wash and WD-40 after every use. If it were me to do over I would wait for another buggy like a PL-XR that I didn't get or get a used one for a lot less like Eli has. Good luck

I understand. Whish I could wait, and might try. You have to really be on top of this forum to get a bug. I've been thinking about a bug for about two years, this year it's worse.

We take chairs when we go fly, I staked a kite right in front of mine, the wind picked up, I had on a harness, launched and hooked in. It felt real good to sit there and fly some 8's. When the chair would come up on two legs I was just whishing it had wheels.

I am concerned about hitting the ground. I'm 5'10 and weigh just under 200lbs. It kind of looks like the longer leg length you set it for would = a lower ride, is this true?

You can tighten up the seats, but they have had problems, at least in the past. I am your size and ripped two seats by doing little more than sitting down. They were good about replacing them but what a pain (and they acted surprised, yeah right).

I have one also and the seat has been repaired many times and has now been replaced. I am 5'10", 220lbs, and the rear axle is showing my weight, fix those things and it works OK. Speeds above 40mph will scare you to death, I bent the down tube. At less than 30lbs the buggy is not stable or strong enough for a safe ride, great beginner buggy for the price.

I would really suggest jumping on the PL-XR. It is only $100 more and really worth much more than than the kite trike. I wouldn't say the kite trike is worth $300, more like $150 to $200 at the most. I weigh 200lbs and when I tried to tighten the seat to keep my butt off the ground 2 buckles broke when I sat in it. So far I think the seat is the main weak spot.

I agree with all the above, save your cash and troubles and just get a Peter Lynn XR+. Just a couple bucks more but you will have many years of enjoyment and not have to wait for repair parts every time you take the buggy out. Also, resale price on the Peter Lynn is much better (as you can see on the forum, they sell very quickly and hold their value) as compared to the Kite Trikes. We discontinued carrying the Kite Trike because of safety and quality issues....we just felt that even though the price was attractive, this buggy was not worth an injury to our customers.

The first run Kite Trikes were much stronger and safer than the later versions. As production continued, quality went down and I wouldn't recommend this buggy to anyone, even if you are on a tight budget. Look around and be patient and you will find a good quality used Peter Lynn or Flexifoil buggy for the same price or less than the new price on the Kite Trike buggies....difference is that the Used PL or Flexi bug will last longer and be safer. :)

Ask yourself.....is saving 100.00 on a buggy better than a trip to the emergency room or weeks waiting for replacement seats or axles to come in....or having a buggy that will rust out on you right away. Get a Peter Lynn buggy and you won't have any of those problems. :)

Hope this helps.

Agree with every thing that has been said!

I actually own both and have had a world of problems with my kite trike...had to get a new seat, new wheels, hubs, bearing, etc.

The PL XR+ is awesome, so well built!...please get this one and don't waste your time with the kite trikes.

...when it comes to buggies, you truly do get what you pay for!

I think Arkay has a PL XR+ buggy for sale and if I'm not mistaken he listed someplace the price of $400. I have the exact same one and I'm very happy with it. I'm at about 250 lbs and didn't have any problems with it - very sturdy.
