Rev Question - How to launch?
Hey all you Rev flyers - any tips on launching these things? The only success I had was propping it up and launching. Can they be launched from flat
on the ground?

I have launched my shockwave from the flat position. You need a fair amount of wind to do this with the shockwave. You would lay it face down, take
both control handles in one hand. With the other hand grab the top control lines, and give them a solid yank towards you. This "should launch the
rev forward towards you in the flat position. Release the top control lines, and in theory the top of the kite should kick back putting the rev in
the upright position. I say in theory because it does not always work. Sometimes the rev may flip over on itself basically facing backwards. Should
work due to the slight forward curve of the leading edge. Give it a try. Oh and don't forget you will need to take one handle in each hand after
launch.

The method above by CSA will work for the speed series and power series revs but is very difficult to do with any other model - because the other
models have a very flat leading edge and not a curved one.
If the Rev crashes leading edge away from you then you can give it a couple tugs on the brake lines and the wing tips will flap up, allowing you to
stand the kite up for launch. Both of these methods do require a fair amount of wind at the ground level to complete.
The easiest way is to just use a kite stake and park the Rev in the upright position - either leading edge down or leading edge up.
hope this helps.

Stake
You need to keep the bottom tips of the bow down, otherwise it'll never come up into the wind, just slide along the ground I've yet to experiment with my old stunt kite trick of putting the winder plastic
thing under the top so it's at a slight angle up off the ground ... but the stake works too well :D
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

If you land face down the best thing to do, especially if your not on sand or nice mowed grass, is to stake your handles and go over and set the kite
up. I prefer leading edge down. The kite will not lift off this way. Then walk back to the handles and give them a good yank usually straight in
past your chest holding the brake on. Take a step back and slowly bring your arms forward keeping even pressure on the lines. Repeat until you are
at the desired height, or the wind takes over.
If you are new to Revs they are easier to launch with the leading edge up. When you stake your handles make sure you have enough brake on so the kite
won't lift off while you walk back. Then repeat as above, only pull directly into your chest instead of past it and no brake, use full forward.
If the kite is flopped over there are a few options like Kent mentioned ... they all require just the right touch based on wind. if the LE is facing
me you can yank both lines and get it to slide towards you and on grass it will sometimes float up and load up. This doesn't work all the time and
is better on the SUL than the vented models. Some people will work the lines until the kite swings around and the LE is facing away from you. If
the LE is away from you I generally give a sawing motion on the controls until one side catches and the sail loads. Depending on the ground I don't
recommend launching from a flat position. You run the risk of damaging the screening. betetr to just take the time to walk over .... unless youa re
with your mates and you don't want to do a walk of shame in front of them .

The stake makes perfect sense - I'll give that a whirl - thanks all!
Next to learn is how to stop thinking - it seems as soon as I start to think anything it's whizzing off 360's and heading for the dirt

i'm well enough to fly some Revs and i have three other Rev models other than the Shockwave.
as a matter of fact i pulled out the Rev I and a dual line stunter the last time out (weeks ago).
i missed all the great wind last two weeks...sick....
*thing is about 'not' doing the 'walk of shame' to set up your kite for relaunch is that you lead by example.
-others see you pull/tugg on lines and yank kite around for a while to set it up for re-launch and they will attempt the same (when you let them try
it out). you may learn/know how to do it right but most others will not and will simply drag your kite/lines around instead of doing the right thing.
anyhoo, the Shockwave is a great Rev model...let's do some flying.

Paul is spot on lots of people will just tug and yank and make a mess. Once they finally get it relaunched they will have a bridle line twisted and
still have to walk out to fix it.
I usually walk out and reset the kite if it doesn't pop up within two or three tugs. I'm not to fond of sliding my kite around.
