Bend Oregon

I am traveling to Bend Oregon in a couple of weeks. I am looking for good places in the area to fly kites. Anybody know any good places around there. :wee:

Also any other cool stuff to do around there?

I'll ask a couple of friends of mine- they lived there for quite a while and go there regularly. It is high desert country so outlying areas are pretty brushy, but there has got to be some open spots.

Yeah that place looks way cool. Talk about the middle of no where.

See I've driven to Kansas and back twice ( going to be three next week) so I got ya' beat on the not seeing a car for a bit , Jim. I swear you can go 2 hours without even turning the steering wheel. What is the access at Alvord like? 4 wheel drive to get in? Is it even marked or do you just have to know where to go? (Sorry for the hijack, Stetson)

No problem at all. I am interested in the access too. The only problem I see with adding into my trip is that it looks to be 6 hours from Bend. I would love to go but I am betting that I am the only one. Nothing for the wife and kids to do there except fly kites and they can't last long doing that. I hope I am wrong and it won't take that long to get there.

Still hoping for an awesome place to kite near Bend somewhere. Thanks for the info guys.

I talked to my buddy about it. He said that Bend itself is pretty overpopulated with a lot of the flatter areas having been developed. Just to the south though is La Pine and Sisters is close too- lots of things to see. I would google tourism info for the area. If it was winter, I'd say go shed mount Bachelor.
