Rain plans
As the 1000 year rain seems to be continuing to pour down on the desert, what are the NABX plans in case of rain? Last year, it seemed like all SBBB
plans just fell apart once the buggies got in from the lakebed. I think there needs to be a better plan this year. Just my 2 cents as i watch with
disgust the latest rain storm hitting southern california...

Yep. It's raining in the desert.
Been a bad winter for buggy riders.
What specific "plans" can we make?
We come here to buggy.
If it rains and the lake bed becomes wet, what options do we have?
Everyone bring hairdryers?
Everything fell apart?
When was that?
Oh, you mean after it began raining...
Well, sure.
If you mean the buggying and buggytown.
(Although, frankly it was a very interesting night on the playa, and a VERY interesting morning. Nothing like it before, in my life)
In this game we don't control much of what goes on.
We learn to be humble before the power and majesty of nature.
Even after the rains, I had a great time.
I was surrounded by friends...
So what's a "better plan"?
Tarp the lakebed?
Pay off Earl (our local wind gawd) before hand?
(Psst: know where we can find a virgin?)
Perhaps in the "default" world we can wait to be entertained, but this is the playa and we have made a buggytown.
Entertainment comes from within each of us.
Come to have fun.
Have it.
Buggy if the wind blows.
ps there will be daily shot-car inspection
buggy on! safen up coreylama

The last time the lake bed was wet (about 4 years back). Roach was used. As I recall there were more wet areas then dry. I also think there is a lake
bed about 10 miles north called Mesquite. Never been there and dont no if it is an option. There are a number of buggy possibilities north of Baker
(Sylurian and Silver).
Keep in mind that water evaporates at an incredible rate in the desert so if the rain stops by the first week of March I think we will be OK!

My Buggy Bretheren:
Now, now...
The event is still like 5 weeks away.
Let's not get too carried away.
It's best to have bad weather before an event...
Because bad weather never lasts.
It can be scary to have good weather before an event...
Because good weather never lasts.
So things are going just as I've planned them.
The lakebed surface will be smooth and fast.
The sun shall shine upon us.
Do not fret.
Know your inner peace.
Hold to the dream until your foot touches playa.
Let the magic happen.
Fervent prayers to the wind gawds will be held daily
immediately before and after shot-car inspection.
Safen Up! Buggy On!

hear hear!! I am in, rain or shine.... might even try camping in the rain again..... Anybody got a PLKiteBoat yet? Might have to give that a try.... I am in Phoenix, about 7 hours nearly due South of Primm, and we have
gotten more rain in the last few weeks than the last couple years added up. I have not had the buggy out since DBBB, and only had a kite up for about
1 hour..... makes me SAD!!!! But it will be that much sweeter when I do hit the flats with a good wind again..... See ya all there!!

The CoreyLama has spoken. I agree with him completely, and in planning what we are going to do in case of, i have to say, party on dudes.
That said, i must inform you that the BLM actually wants a more comprehensive plan. We are forming one. They were very happy with us last year.
We intend to keep them happy this year.
Our crack team of buggy research people are out now(in the rain) scouting alternative locations. Both for the Pre-event and for the main event.
Nevertheless, I bet you we end up having a fine time. We have more stuff planned for fun than ever before without going crazy making plans, since to
make the Gods laugh, you only have to reveal them.
Hang tough everyone. This is gonna be one wild ride. I managed to get some buggying in sunday, through the rain drops and it was awsome! We'll
keep you updated as we get closer and it counts, meanwhile, get your butt out here and join us for some aoxomoxoa!

Now now Sean... don't go tempting the rain Gods like that again. We saw what happened the last time at DBBB. But if you insist, at least don't go buy
another tarp. I'll be bringing your old one. I think I even got most of the wet sand out of it! :D
Hey!!! At least we won't have to worry about dust storms this year! Are dust devils still considered dust devils if there's no dust?

Believe it or not, there is dust in the desert! Yesterday was most dusty and it is amazing how fast the water disapeers when there is wind(that's
right!)and sunshine!
Hooray! for no rain!

Hey Glenn, according to this site (below) the temps at Elmers have been running from the mid 30's to the low 60's, sunny and breezy. More or less the
same at Ivanpah.
I've got several weather links on my website for the dry lakes. I'll also be bringing a laptop with cellphone connectivity so we can monitor the
conditions real time and not be caught by surprise like last year.
