Welcome to SOFKA (Southern Flied Kiters Assc) territory. There is an active group of us located throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. The group is
represented in Hickory, NC: Augusta, Jekyll Island, & North Georgia: Charleston, Hilton Head, Aiken, & Florence, SC. I'm sure that I left
someone out.
All disciplines are represented. Bug's, Boards, and Water. Wonderful selection of kites to share along with a lot of expertise to draw from. Keep a
lookout for SOFKA meet ups. We meet in Aiken, Folly Beach, Jekyll Island, and anywhere else there is wind and room to fly.
Welcome to the forum. Tell us a bit more about yourself including your kit. (Kiting gear).

Hi Mel, Thanks for the response, and I'll be on the lookout for meetups.. I see you're in Florence, SC..
I'm just getting into the sport, I haven't purchased a kit yet.. Still deciding what to get and new vs used.. My previous kiting experience... 3
years ago, I got a stunt kite, and have alot of fun with it when I go to the beach, while in Hawaii a couple years ago, saw kite surfing for the 1st
time while driving.. I think that it'll be a fun sport to get into..
I am an avid cyclist and mountain biker and ride 3-4 days/week..
My next door neighbor, last summer got an HQ Scout, with the goal of getting to the water.. On Sunday this week, I went with him for the 1st time and
flew his Scout, and had a great time, but the wind didn't cooperate with us..
My mom, just bought a condo and Myrtle Beach, now I have a place to stay at the beach, and looking forward to kite surfing at Myrtle, if the location
is conducive..:wee:

Interesting. I have found that a lot of people involved in this activity share other similar interests. I ride ~150 miles a week on the road (down
from ~250 when I was racing :frog and mountain bike in the winter.
Let me know when you are coming this way and I would be happy to meet you for a day of flying and perhaps riding. Hopefully the wind will blow again.
Doldrums are bit frustrating.

Hey Bwebb. I'm the Augusta component of SoFKA. I love getting together with other kiters as well. Mel is a great guy and might be able to get
together with you at Myrtle. You are about 3 hours from here if you want to meet some of the guys next time we get a windy weekend here. It's a
drive but some of us are getting together in St. Augustine next week. I'll be there the whole week and others will stop by when and if they get a
chance. That Scout is just the ticket to get you sucked into this. Welcome to the forum, to SoFKA, and to power kiting.

bewebb, I'm just south of greenville SC.
We usually kite on the weekend when we can find a breeze.
Guess you've heard of the Clemson Tigers? Well thats where we go. There's one small hill down there and I found another field on Clemson property
thats huge but haven't found the wind to be right there just yet.
I swing by it sometimes just to check. When the windy months come, I think it will be the place.

Hi bwebb. I am just south of Hickory, NC. Keep your eye out for meet ups around here. The SOFKA crowed is a great bunch of guys. I know there is one
of the members trying to get a meet up going for Holden Beach, NC around July 11th- 16th I think it was. I need to break my kites out and knock the
dust off of them. Haven't flown in about 2 months now, got into Nitro R/C cars and been playing with them.
Welcome to the board, and the addiction.
