i am looking to get started into the sport, i was thinking about getting a training kite, or just going rite into it and gettting a kite thats like a
5M or something not to large. and buying myself a harness and just avoid the training kite to save money, could i have your input on this and also let
me know what kites you think i should get or if you have any for sale. thanks!Bladerunner - 25-7-2009 at 09:49 AM
DON'T DO IT !
90+% odds are you will regret it !
Buy a used trainer and then resell it if money is an issue.
BBrex has some stings on here at a great price. You should be able to re-sell for little or no loss.shehatesmyhobbies - 25-7-2009 at 09:53 AM
I guess the first thing that should be asked is what is your age and weight. Do you have any kite experience at all. It is a wonderful sport ( power
kite flying ) but if you are not prepared you can really get hurt. Heck sometimes even if you are prepared you can really get hurt.
If you have no time or very limited time on any four line kite or bar kite setup than I would definitely suggest a trainer of some sort, you need to
learn kite control and safety first and foremost.
As far as wasting money, if you get discourage by getting injured by flying the wrong kite at the wrong time than you have wasted your money anyway!
Trainers are always nice to have in your quiver, in case you meet someone else that wants to learn. in which case you can show them how to fly and
then have someone new to fly with!
Hope this helps Where are you located. You can usually find someone in your area that may be able to help you get headed in the right direction.moser157honda - 25-7-2009 at 06:28 PM
thnx for your input. i have never been on a kite. i used to fly trick kites all the time. i get the jist of the kite flying i just wasnt sure what i
should do. so i am off to find a used trainer kite. if anyone has one for sale at a good price let me know. i am looking for a 4 line also.shehatesmyhobbies - 26-7-2009 at 07:53 AM
I saw that you asked about bbrex's sting, not a bad choice. My daughters first flight was on a 1.7 sting. she is 12 and about 85 lbs, the 3.3 would
probably work good for you. Again based on your weight. Don't let the numbers fool you.I have several hq beamers available also. Mostly new kites, but
I do have a few smaller ones that have been used for training others to fly.

that will say a lot on where to point you.furbowski - 28-7-2009 at 09:13 PM
can't go wrong with a 2-3m beamer for a first kite, if that's what shehatesetc is selling you.shehatesmyhobbies - 29-7-2009 at 01:50 PM
I love the beamers myself! Nice all around kite, good build, easy to fly, and always nice to have in the quiver.moser157honda - 29-7-2009 at 03:03 PM
thnx for all of the replys, and to acampbell, i live on a farm with 1000 acres. so i have a very open area. also we have a house on the coast of south
carolina, so i will be mountain boarding, and also on water.moser157honda - 29-7-2009 at 03:16 PM
wat do you guys feel is better? beamer III 4M or sting 3.3?Hardrock - 29-7-2009 at 03:57 PM
Well your talking to the right guys. acampbell and shehatesmyhobbies will give you great advice and if you buy from them, they ship so fast it will
seem impossible.
Great guys and both can be trusted 100%.
I went for the 5m and got my butt whipped fast and often. Couldn't fly it much as I was terrified of being beat around. This came after a small P3 two
liner. I had to learn slow because my kite was too big. The wind wasn't perfect every time I got a chance to fly so learning took way too long. A 3m
would have given me more than twice the flying time.
If you can find someone with a few kites thats not to far from you, ask them to show you the difference. With help, a 5m could be in your future
sooner than we think. But going to a 5m alone would probably discourage you really quick.
I was like you and wanted to get a kite that would save money by not having to buy another for awhile but it was not much fun for around a year.
Finally I did learn to control it but so much time was lost. If I had done it right, I’d be flying depowers by now.moser157honda - 29-7-2009 at 04:02 PM
what if i went in between with a 4M? i havent rode these kites but i have the idea of how to rid. i used to fly alot of trick kites. right now i am
looking at the beamer III 4M and string 3.3. wat do you feel would be better?Hardrock - 29-7-2009 at 04:21 PM
I always wanted the Beamer 4m and would still like to have one. I don't know about the sting.
These guys would be better help with that. More will reply soon. Just keep checking in.
Where are you from? As odd as it may seem, there's a bunch of guys in places where kites are not very popular.
I live in upstate SC. I have never seen another power kite in this area. But I make one of us.shehatesmyhobbies - 29-7-2009 at 04:38 PM
Hardrock I love your final comment "But I make one of us". That just cracked me up!
Thanks for the kudo's. How is your son making out on the Ace. It is a lifty kite but a pure adrenaline rush!. Hope all is well down there! Our winds
are hit or miss, but a bud and I got major time in on our buggies a couple of weekends ago!shehatesmyhobbies - 29-7-2009 at 04:46 PM
Moser I just saw the 1000 acres post! WOW! I am on my way, packing the car now! lol You definitely are in for kite buying blues. You are going to
need several kites in the future to keep you moving. Buy like most of us, you are not happy till you have a trunk full of kites with you at all times.
I have an aluminum truck tool box on my truck that only has kites in it always, oh and some paper towels.
If you need more answers please ask! the flat span on the beamer 4m is 11.4 ft and the wind range is 4-27 mph.moser157honda - 29-7-2009 at 05:25 PM
i live in central PA. my entiree family are farmers. haha but we own most of the farm land. and dont worry i will be buying more kites. this is just
the beginning haha gotta get started somewhere. i am also getting my dad into is so he can help me out on prices of kites. hshehatesmyhobbies - 29-7-2009 at 06:26 PM
That is great to hear as far as getting help from dad. I am teaching my 12 year old daughter to fly on a 1.7 sting. She is loving it! You let me know
what you think. I am more than happy to help. Try looking up the sting and the beamer on youtube and watch some good videos you can see what they are.
Talk to you soon.Hardrock - 29-7-2009 at 06:28 PM
Hey probelm solved. If you can get dad involved, no more worries. You will have it all in a few months.
SHMH, u2u sent, I need a box like that. We are taking a midsize car to the beach Sat for a week. 5 kites, harness, bug, etc, leaves enough room for
one change of shorts, hat and a bar of soap. I might can thro in a few one liners if the girlfriend will ride on top.
hahaha, I hope she doesnt read this.shehatesmyhobbies - 29-7-2009 at 06:37 PM
Moser my phone lines are out from bad storms so I have no internet for now I am doin all of this from my black berry. I will get back to you tomorrow.
I am in de so it might be possible to fly with you.we will talk!

paper towels ???:puzzled:shehatesmyhobbies - 29-7-2009 at 07:37 PM
To wipe down my face and hands after a good flight! Don't have to wash them just put them in a disposable bag and throw them out! Plus they are clean
and dry every time unlike a hand towel that you would normally take with you.Hardrock - 29-7-2009 at 08:06 PM
Ha, I was thinking for the (oh crap gust)furbowski - 30-7-2009 at 06:55 AM
the 4m is a bit big for a city kid, but for a farm kid would likely be fine. You can expect to get tossed around a lot in the beginning, and if you
choose big winds for your first couple of flights you'll likely have a pretty negative experience.
If you can link up with somebody to show the 4-line basics (30 mins to show what might take 10 hours to figure out -- 10 potentially very risky hours
as well.) that would make a huge diff.
btw, being young is a huge advantage! it's a hard sport, and many of us, like me, get into this in our 40's or much later, and you wouldn't believe
how many more aches & pains you get at this age!
if your fields are smooth and rolled you've got a thousand acres of heaven there....moser157honda - 30-7-2009 at 09:06 AM
we have an open grass field that is 365 acres that is completely open, then we also have some woods then the rest is all cornfields, so half of the
time there are crops, but when they are picked, completely open=)shehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 09:11 AM
You just have to watch out for the roots on the corn and the soybeans when flying in the crop fields, they can be kite killers! Sounds like you have
an awesome place up there, where are you close to. Allentown, Pocono's, Pit?moser157honda - 30-7-2009 at 09:13 AM
i am 1 hr away from poconos, i m central. right along the susquehanna river. about 30 min below williamsport and about 10 min north of bucknell
universityshehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 09:16 AM
Cool! I will check on the map and see where about you are now that I have an idea.moser157honda - 30-7-2009 at 09:28 AM
ok, and i will be calling at somepoint after 3 this evening to order the kite. are there any tips for just getting started that you guys can think of
that will make me advance faster?shehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 09:36 AM
which kite have you decided on?moser157honda - 30-7-2009 at 09:39 AM
the beamer 4M, i think it will be best for me to start with, what is your opinion?shehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 09:59 AM
Well I think that the beamer4. is an easy kite to fly. Has a really wide wind range and also serves as a great kite buggy engine.it is not a real
lifty kite for land boarding but a good kite to learn contol and still keep around for high wind days once you have learned how to safely fly.As for
the size related to you it would be fine to start with, just not on high wind days to start off with. My first kite was a 5m but I was 210 lbs.Being
that you have at least some two line kite experience learning to manuveur the kite should not be that hard, learning how to brake and use the kites
power is where the fun comes in.moser157honda - 30-7-2009 at 10:03 AM
yes, i agree, i was watching my friend fly down in sc and i get the idea of the 4 line kite and where the power is and to do figure 8s and things like
that to get a nice powerful pull. once i get good with this i am looking to step up to a kite that will just launch me into the air, i love some
massive air. then again who doesnt hahashehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 10:22 AM
I agree with you totally. Air can be good, I have found that riding my buggy is my favorite part. I still go for the big air from time to time.moser157honda - 30-7-2009 at 10:26 AM
well i am the motocross kid that does 150 ft gaps and crashes and breaks bones and hits 100 ft gaps on snowboards, so i tend to smash myself up pretty
well, 3 months ago i just had a complete ankle reconstruction on my left ankle from skateboarding, torn tendons and ligaments... no fun... i am a
swimmer also and i had to swim with my ankle like that for 2.5 months until after nationals hahashehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 11:15 AM
yeah I think you can handle the 4m lolshehatesmyhobbies - 30-7-2009 at 03:09 PM
Good luck with your kite moser! That kite will work for you. I hope you got a good deal on that kite! And just to check did you get my price quotes?
Hope to see you on the flying fields!moser157honda - 31-7-2009 at 01:52 PM
