SOBB 2010

csa_deadon - 3-10-2009 at 03:48 AM

Alright, somebody has to ask, so it might as well be me!

Dates people! We need dates.

I have to plan vacation time, start stocking up on supplies (they only get so many brauts in every week at the grocery store).

I also have to start pumping up that #%#$%#$% air mattress now, so that it will be fully inflated for next year.

jellis - 3-10-2009 at 10:20 AM

Labor Day 2010 is on the 6th and SOBB 8 will start Saturday September 4th and run through Sunday September 12th. SOBB.US

ripsessionkites - 4-10-2009 at 05:27 AM

see ya there next year ... im voting for a beach TAXI service.

That would be a great idea, however, I think we need a different service then the one we used this year. I heard he really "Soaks" you for the trip.

ripsessionkites - 4-10-2009 at 10:40 AM

lol

Rye - 5-1-2010 at 02:49 PM

Man, I'd like to make this this year... just maybe. For sure 2011.

csa_deadon - 9-1-2010 at 12:01 AM

Vacation requested. Pumping up of air matress will start in the morning.

csa_deadon - 17-4-2010 at 01:04 AM

So air mattress is half way inflated.
Is buggy camp going to be in the same location this year, and when can we start setting up at buggy camp?

ripsessionkites - 17-4-2010 at 09:04 AM

last year i heard it was mile marker 2 but than everyone setup at mile marker 1.

i should only be there for the weekends. so ill have to do the trip twice.

see you than

csa_deadon - 17-4-2010 at 07:50 PM

Go to know you'll be there man. I was actually referring to base camp off the beach. You know where we eat, sleep, and make a ton of noise!!

heliboy50 - 17-4-2010 at 07:53 PM

I'll be there for the weekends. Anybody got a car that needs a 5m Ozone sticker w/ rider attached this year?

Morrie Williams - 6-6-2010 at 01:26 PM

Are we still meeting at Phil's Buggy Camp or somewhere else?

Should we get reservations somewhere???

jellis - 7-6-2010 at 11:53 AM

Phil has graciously offered to have SOBB Buggy Camp again on Delmar Loop RD. If full hookups are needed , then the KOA or Fort Steven camp grounds are the ticket. Motel 6 in Seaside runs around $88 as Best Westerns, Shilo Inns and others run $1450 and up.
This year we will post were and when the pot luck dinners will be along with the location and times for SOBB beach locations for buggying. Keep an informed at SOBB.us or Sunset Beach Buggy Blast on Facebook.

csa_deadon - 7-6-2010 at 07:50 PM

bzzzzzzzzzzzzz :ninja::flaming:

Those who know, I'm up to the challenge again this year!

Bring on the duck farts and lemonade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you guys there. Dibs on the South side of the tree.

Morrie Williams - 9-6-2010 at 08:08 PM

Kelci and I have dibs on the North West side of the tree!

flexiblade - 9-6-2010 at 09:24 PM

What would you say, from past events, the wind conditions are like that time of year (on an average)? And the tides - how much runnable space (from wet sand to soft) at high tides and low tides? I, and a few of the Norcal crew are really wanting to come up - just curious on what to expect. Thanks.

csa_deadon - 9-6-2010 at 10:03 PM

Last year was my first SOBB. Winds varied we only had one no wind day. Most days I think were in the 10-15 mph range. A couple of the days the tide did come in rather quick. Long runs down and back are possible. I think it's about 6 or more miles to the shipwreck.

Even when the wind did not cooperate or the tide came rushing in, it was worth it. The after hours are great! The people are better!

If you're thinking of bringing Dino, tell him we need a Pansh! hehehe

Hope to see you guys up here.

vwbrian - 9-6-2010 at 10:05 PM

It was awsome last year. No Cali representation last year, we missed you guy's. Would like to see all you guy's up here this year. We made a 8 mile run to the ship wreck last year. Tides are good check out Protides.com. Beaches are wide at low tide. High tide you want to get off the beach or risk getting stuck in the soft sand. Winds are usually very nice but Mother Nature is what she is we had 50MPH winds in camp with tents aflyin. Wind on the beach was good all the day's I was there. If you can get the time off come on up. It is not that far of a drive if you stick to I-5 and cut across at Portland on US26.

heliboy50 - 9-6-2010 at 10:11 PM

Been working on Dino to come up since last year. It would be freakin' great if you guys could make it:thumbup: Except at the southern end, I have not really found tides to be much of a problem, especially with BF's. Then again I suck and never use all that much beach anyway;) I don't think there would be any shortage of people willing to receive shipped gear, if that would make travel arrangements easier.

arkay - 9-6-2010 at 10:16 PM

These tides are close enuf :) http://www.cannonbeach.org/tides/sept-tide-table.htm

Good wind typically is in the late morning until dinner. I find 8-15 is average, but realisticlly it will probalby vary between 5 and 35 :D You really can't predict! In terms of kite size, I find that a fixed 3m and 5-7m or equiv cover me. But the wind is pretty consistent throughout the day so don't expect gusty inland junk, right macboy ;)

The first week is mid tides in the afternoon and the second half is high tides in the afternoon. With the mid tides it'll be damp hard pack and plenty of room to build up good speed. Plenty of room for freestyle, but better for crooZing or speed runs.

The second half will bring exceptionally high tides in the afternoon we'll either be chased off the beach in the afternoon or will be riding more towards the soft dry sand. 8.5 ft tides at 2-3pm is pretty insane. Did you mean to do this Jon :) But with the very high tides comes very low tides in the morning. On the off chance we get good morning before 10am, then there'll be a nice big hard pack playground!

sweet Rip Daskirtz Show at SOBB 2010.

hope you're ready to race, mr.pink skirt.

jellis - 10-6-2010 at 10:01 AM

Race Race did someone say race? Boy Oh Boy Race.

csa_deadon - 10-6-2010 at 02:19 PM

Jon do you have a complete buggy? You can't race if you're missing a side rail!

J/K Jon.

Can't wait to see everyone there.

AD72 - 10-6-2010 at 02:25 PM

+1 for Norcal. Count me in.

Morrie Williams - 10-6-2010 at 03:39 PM

Has everyone who is coming registered yet? The registration direct link is http://www.napkra.org/event_reg.php?Event_id=39.

jellis - 11-6-2010 at 11:27 AM

Yes I am missing a side rail that I loaned to Bill until his comes in from Libre. It is a beach to lose stuff in shipping from Louisiana. I still have the Hardcore Bigfoot suspension buggy ready for SOBB.

arkay - 11-6-2010 at 10:25 PM

Yes it is... but csa I bet he can still beat you with one side rail... after all your lines will be tangled on your axle :)

dibs on the spot I had last year. Under the Hanging Tree.:bigok:

Dagon - 25-6-2010 at 02:11 PM

I am planning on attending this year, i will likely need to camp so I will need to find out all the details as it gets closer.

csa_deadon - 25-6-2010 at 09:07 PM

@ Dagon
There is camping at Phils, and there is the Fort Stevens state park http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_179.php

If you are looking at the State park I would reserve now. Fills up quick.

To the shipwreck... and BEYOND!!!

It's what I refer to as the "river to the rocks run". What's nice about that is that the last couple of miles on both ends are motor vehicles not allowed.

Me afraid? Never. heheh. Besides I've had all year to think up even sneaker things.

Only about 60ish days to go. Has anyone heard from centex_buggier? Just wondering if he's gonna make it this year.

Dagon - 22-7-2010 at 01:10 PM

Can I get directions to Phill's. I went there in 08 but I dont think I could find it again if I tried.

centex_buggier - 25-7-2010 at 08:39 PM

Hey Sean,
First time I checked the forum in a while cause I've been busy with our newborn.
I don't know if I'm coming up yet. If I do it will likely be a quick visit.

Steve.

BeamerBob - 26-7-2010 at 01:34 PM

If I try to make this a family trip, what can I use to sell the wife on the idea? Plan B would be for just Wexler and I to head up. We are a 2 buggy family now so I'll start my posturing. Gimme some ideas here! LOL.

arkay - 26-7-2010 at 04:03 PM

Historic Astoria, Goonies, Flavel House Museum, oregon coast, oregon dunes on the way up, smoked salmon, hike to the top of mt neakahnie, cannon beach tide pools, manzanita has 6 day spas :)

Morrie Williams - 26-7-2010 at 07:19 PM

Don't forget Seaside and Tillamook!

flexiblade - 26-7-2010 at 07:24 PM

Those sound like a myriad of good excuses Bob. I'll see you there.

jellis - 27-7-2010 at 07:16 PM

Sean be afraid, I heard what Eli is going to do for you this year. LMAO

csa_deadon - 27-7-2010 at 10:20 PM

Hey, it's all good. Besides, why would you guys do something evil to the snack bringer/photographer!

Can't wait to throw back a few and ride with you guys. Been too long.

See ya soon. Packing the "Lemonade and Funyuns!"

Dagon - 28-7-2010 at 09:02 AM

Directions to Phil's anyone? I need to know how to get there. or if you give me an address I can look it up.

csa_deadon - 28-7-2010 at 08:13 PM

@ Dagon, I would e-mail Jon at KBSS. He could give you the directions if not the physical address.
I just know to turn east at Dellmoor loop and look for the wind socks.

Morrie Williams - 28-7-2010 at 08:34 PM

I sent Dagon an email with map to Phil's.

solaris - 8-8-2010 at 12:00 PM

I am planning to come this year too! So excited! Look forward to see old friends and new ones. Dagon, right on, that is great if you can come. Bringing Kiah?
I am in the same team - Pasha and couple kiting/paragliding friends :)
We are bringing all our toys - kites (land/water), paragliders and speed wings! I am even bringing my tandem. So if anybody is for a paragliding tandem flight just let me know :) We ll go to fly dunes.
Unfortunately i can make it only sep 3-6. Still not bad, 4 days.

jellis - 9-8-2010 at 10:38 AM

Maybe Bison will donate some of the Coho salmon he is going to catch? Eli and Konrad always bring oysters. John and Lynn offer fresh tuna and grill it.
No one has jumped over the porta potty in a few years. Sean is going to jump the board ramp with his buggy this year. Monty is going to get wet. LOL and on and on.

heliboy50 - 10-8-2010 at 04:59 PM

I imagine there will be several people out at least by the 4th. I'll be there 4-5-6 and 10-11-13. Just might have some coho and /or steelhead to contribute too, Jon.

flexiblade - 10-8-2010 at 06:10 PM

AD72 - 10-8-2010 at 07:40 PM

BeamerBob - 10-8-2010 at 07:53 PM

Not looking good for me, but I've last minute saves before.

AD72 - 10-8-2010 at 08:01 PM

Noooo!

csa_deadon - 12-8-2010 at 12:48 AM

@ Bob,

I'm sure we can come up with some excuse for you.

I think there's a conference you have to attend that just happens to be taking place at the same time, and what luck it's being held in Astoria! Unbelievable luck! Who would have guessed.

Just let me know what subject matter I need to cover when I send your confirmation info and our tri-fold brochure on the conference.

And who said we never help each other out.

The problem is that I have enough kite stuff in the garage that she would definitely notice it missing. I might pull it off once but then the questions would start next time. "So how close is this dry lake bed to Vegas? What are you really doing down there?" There is still some hope to do it legit. CSA, I figured you'd already helped me out and just called my wife directly for me since I helped you out with the pushup regimen. :shocked2: :saint:

centex_buggier - 12-8-2010 at 08:37 AM

Looks like I won't be coming this year .
I hope to see some of you at Dead Bird.

steve.

jellis - 12-8-2010 at 10:14 AM

Steve say it isn't so! You are such a regular that I will be looking around for you all the time. Give the wife and baby a hug for us.

csa_deadon - 12-8-2010 at 11:36 PM

heliboy50 - 13-8-2010 at 03:48 PM

Now I'll have to find a different car to gift wrap:(

They'll be a 15m phantom and 10m pulse to try...

How many buggies can we hook together and simultaneously power? I've seen two. I can't see a reason why we can't do four :) I've got a 2.5 for the caboose! Sand also seems like a fun place for 1 pilot + 1 passenger + 1 buggy...:wow:

heliboy50 - 14-8-2010 at 04:56 AM

what kind of gear would you need to haul, rip? I live like 5 mins from PDX, but with an extra passenger, I'd need help hauling gear myself (why did I buy a kia?)

centex_buggier - 14-8-2010 at 07:46 PM

Hope you guys have a great time. I wish I was coming and will be thinking about the event. I wish you guys perfect weather and enjoy the duck farts and oysters at camp. Make a run down to the Iredale for me.

If anyone decides to come down to DBBB, let me know what you need and I will set you up.

Have a blast,
Steve.

Dagon - 16-8-2010 at 09:06 AM

Sorry guys, but I need to spend that week with my son considering I only see him every other week. I would love to bring him up but he would have to miss too much school and he already misses 3 days every year for NABX.

csa_deadon - 17-8-2010 at 11:34 PM

Damb Dagon, I missed out on meeting you at NABX this year. Guess I'll have to wait. Have fun with your son. We will miss ya.

As to me and Pasha (who is the same age as Kiah) the more time I spend with him outside of the *prison* the healthier he will be, the better childhood he ll have ;)

Thanks for posting the photos Archkiter. Man I wish I was there...
Hope everyone had a great time.

Steve.

solaris - 24-9-2010 at 01:22 PM

Me and my son Pasha had a blast! I had my first tandem in a buggy with Brian: duo flying, loved it! (thanks B!) There is sure a lot of work to fly synchronized but the joy in feedback is indescribable.
It was super fun riding with Eli in a tandem buggy as a passenger, I only wish he went much faster and made sharper turns
We also went to Pacific City (Cape Kiwanda) and Area B for flying. Thank you to Steve for taking us and showing places!
We also met local paragliding club/company and school Discover Paragliding (Brad and Maren), they towed us. I flew Brian on a tandem!!! To 3300', high and cold :)
Pasha (13) launched off the dune on 15m speed glider :)
To Dagon: and he didn't miss a single day of school :P
We really missed you and Kiah, hopefully next year you guys will make it
I have a little bit of photos on my fb and also Steve took some
...yes i did liked a slug... :frog:
