Still Waiting

shaggs2riches - 2-11-2009 at 06:41 PM

I'm just curious from you guys what the longest you ever had to wait for a kite to come once ordered. I ordered my first kite over 6 weeks ago and it still hasn't been shipped out. I ordered a 2010 6m ozone access xt and have been told that there aren't any in North America as of yet. I don't want to be pushy to the salesman but when I ordered the kite in September I was told that by the end of that week 2010 stock would be in; and, if I waited till then for it to be shipped out then I could get one of those instead of a 2009 model. Six weeks later I still haven't got a tracking # saying that it was shipped. Sorry for ranting here but I'm just curious if anyone else has had to wait this long. I get that with customs and new inventory it can take a while; so, I don't want to push the guy to much with the question "how much longer is it gonna take?" I just don't want to come across as an #@%$#! to this guy that's all. Any input would be great. Thanks.:puzzled:

DAKITEZ - 2-11-2009 at 06:47 PM

Ozone takes a long time to get items in stock. This is why Ozone has/had a strict policy that no online retailer could list a item if it was not in stock.

I wish you luck on getting your kite soon. The access is a nice kite it is very similar to the HQ apex II's that I fly

f0rgiv3n - 2-11-2009 at 07:33 PM

I waited so long once for a Peter Lynn Charger that I ended up getting a different kite....

BeamerBob - 2-11-2009 at 07:58 PM

After that much time the dealer should give you your money back if you ask. It isn't the dealers fault since he isn't in charge of production. He can only ship it when Ozone gets it to him. If you would rather have some other kite instead of the 2010 model then get your refund or get a different kite from that dealer. Otherwise, you just have to wait. Like Forgiven says, the Chargers were supposed to be out at the end of July. Due to production issues and other kites lines from PL selling well, they have had to make decisions about what to produce in the factory. Many of us have done something else in the 3 month delay. Maybe you should too. I wouldn't have paid for a kite that isn't at least on its way to the dealer from the mfr. or can be when his order is placed.

macboy - 2-11-2009 at 09:07 PM

Yeah. I'd see if you could get a refund and then talk to Mueller Windsports based out of Cochrane. They carry Ozone stuff (have for a long time) and might be able to hook you up quicker - and on the Canadian dollar which will be worse now compared to the US than it was when you bought your kite. Keep the big picture in mind - no surprise fees at the border, better exchange etc. Of course you then have GST but it may end up worth it in the long run. I ordered my Access from Colorado kite force and had it I think within three weeks and that was after shipping it to Arizona so friends could ship it to me.

Hate to say it, but good luck with it - there is a chance you're dealing with a smaller dealer who will have used your money to place the order and won't refund you. Let us know how it goes....there are others here that can learn from your experiences, good or bad.

shaggs2riches - 2-11-2009 at 09:09 PM

yeah I really do want this kite. I do however want to get flying something soon so I have been thinking of giving him at least till the end of this week to get me a definite answer of when I can expect the kite or I will try to arrange something else with him. He already sent me my harness and spreader bar so, I would hope that if all goes wrong with the kite I have on order, he may have something else that I can get that is just as good of quality. I guess I waited this long it probably won't hurt to wait 4 or 5 more days for an answer.

macboy - 2-11-2009 at 09:26 PM

Dude, the Access is such a solid kite though. Make sure you check in here before you accept any substitutions.

Just checked their website and from outward appearances I'd say they were a big enough place to trust - and to expect you could halt the process and get a refund on the kite. Also seems like any substitution would have to be an Ozone or SLingshot since that's all they carry. Call around to other shops and see if anyone has stock. Maybe they are facing the same issues all the other manufacturers seem to be having (Chargers are still not out). Rumor has it you can get a custom Flysurfer in 6-8 weeks and that's basically a kite that is just a bunch of piles of fabric when your credit card number gets to them. Your kite SHOULD be in your closet by now I'd think.

Maven454 - 3-11-2009 at 03:55 AM

No one can get a 2010 Ozone Access/Frenzy/Manta yet as far as I can tell.

bigkahuna - 3-11-2009 at 05:31 AM

I once waited almost a year for a kite (the PL Guerilla II 22m when they first came out) but we won't go there. ;)

Maven454 - 3-11-2009 at 05:35 AM

bigkahuna, in reply to your signature. The HQ Scout on a bar is a four line kite. Not a three line.

bigkahuna - 3-11-2009 at 05:42 AM

Thanks Maven. Looking at your sig, I'd say you're the expert on that subject. ;) How 'bout sending one or two of those toys south?

ragden - 3-11-2009 at 05:53 AM

I had to wait almost a month for my Speed 3, the first batch sold out before they came in (pre-sales), and the second batch got held up in customs. It was worth the wait though. Personally, I'd say hold out a little longer if you can. The Ozone Access kites are very nice, and I'm sure you'll be quite happy with it when you get it. You could see if he has any 2009 models available for you to play with until the 2010 comes in. Just depends on how much longer you want to wait... :(

Not a foil, but the longest I have waited for a kite is 6-7 months. I knew in advance it was going to be a wait, so I didn't have any RSN expectations. I basically told to dealer... "ship it out when you get it." To be fair, it was not remotely the outlay of cash as the Access. You never said whether you CC had already been charged.

Have you do business with this dealer before? I think I would just call them up and ask for a realistic ETA, with the understanding that past a certain point you have the option of walking away.

Before you have that conversation, you might need to suss out for yourself what your realistic pain thresold is.

After the first snow, how long before you beat yourself unconscious banging your head against the wall?

If you hadn't made the committment, how long a release date slippage would have had you diving for another kite? I mean if Ozone contacted their dealers tomorrow and said... "Sorry.... 2010 Kites won't be to you until mmddyyyy. " Where's your breaking point?

If you're worried about nagging the dealer, it depends on if he gave a new ETA or not? Checking in once every 7-10 days doesn't seem unreasonable if an updated ETA hasn't been provided. Emails are probably less intrusive. If you are phoning, I might opt for 15-30 minutes from store opening before the day is in full swing and he is juggling multiple customers.

ATB,
Sam

shaggs2riches - 3-11-2009 at 10:27 PM

Thanks guys!

I feel quite a bit longer about waiting. I messaged the guy today with a simple hello and just wondering if the kite has come in yet, and still no answer as of yet. I don't believe there is anything to be worried about with the dealer himself. I just think that he may have jumped the gun by saying that the kite would be in soon, when in reality he never knew when it actually would be in stock. I'm really crossing my fingers though that the kite may be available this week for shipment. To answer the question, yes my cc already has been charged, so I'm starting to think that he used those funds to order the kite and that he never actually had the kite on order. But I could be wrong on that one. I will keep you guys posted, but for now I think that I will hold out for a little while longer. The reviews that I have been reading say that it is a much much better kite than last years model. One review that I found randomly through a google search said that it started to compare closer to the frenzy than they anticipated ( but I don't know how much one would believe that). This will be my first kite so I won't know any different I guess; but, as long as it comes without defects and I can get it off the ground I will be happy. Again thanks guys.

Maven454 - 4-11-2009 at 04:04 AM

I'd talked to Windzup (the US Ozone distributor) back at the beginning of October and was told that they should have the Frenzy around the middle of October. So it's possible that your dealer was also misinformed.

I am afraid that Peter Lynn is losing out daily with this. Even the Synergy is pretty much sold out ?

I believe the Synergy is pretty much sold out. I ordered the last 2 15m Synergy's and received them yesterday. The only other size they had a few weeks ago was the 12m.

On that subject, who makes harness for BIG guys. 270

ragden - 4-11-2009 at 09:01 AM

The new Mystic Shadow harness comes in a xxl, http://www.kiteboarding.com/proddetail.asp?prod=mystic%5F201...
The Dakine seat harness also comes in an xxl. Worth taking a look at if you are interested. They also have the Ozone Access XC lasted on the site, but that harness is one-size-fits-all. I have one, and have to pull the straps in pretty far to make it fit me. Not sure if it would work for you. If you were close, I'd let you try it out...

Best of luck...

edit: Um.. wow, they have LOTS of harnesses listed on that website. You have to look around a bit, but there are tons... Hope you can find something you like...

acampbell - 4-11-2009 at 09:19 AM

Yeah they found one more Syn 15 for me last week that had been to the Sahara and back but not unpacked.
They have 12's in all colors but that is it.

Ozone kites can be hard for dealers to get. Accessories like harnesses and control gear is a little easier.

Akulakat, the Ozone XC harness is sized large to go over snow clothes so might fit the bill. I have heard of Dakine doing custom stuff for large guys.

ripsessionkites - 4-11-2009 at 11:08 AM

i said it once before ... every factory needs to employ more elves.

delays happen with all top brands, its unstoppable. too much demand. just be happy that most manufactures are willing to split the amount with the USA / Canada market.
most things are back-ordered right now.

yes, there is no more Syn 15m

BeamerBob - 4-11-2009 at 12:06 PM

Mine hasn't found any wind yet. Do I win the prize of the last new 15m synergy? That would be a nice consolation for no wind since I got it.

acampbell - 4-11-2009 at 12:13 PM

Ironically, the last new 15m Synergy - the one that made the trip to the Sahara but never flown - is gong to Saudi Arabia. Good, so the new owner won't mind some desert dust on the bag.

shaggs2riches - 4-11-2009 at 06:31 PM

It looks like I'm gonna get my kite soon!:puzzled: I got a phone call from my dealer saying that he has one kite come in. He said that he also got an e-mail stating that there is a possibility of a waiting period that could be as long as 2 months before he gets any other 2010 kites. Not a guarantee, but they could come as early as three weeks from now too. The reason he called me is because I have been the only one showing an eagerness to get my kite out of some 30 orders. If I didn't want to chance it for the possibility of waiting another possible 8 weeks I could take the one he got in. Catch was that it was a color that I definitely would not have ever thought of getting, a limited run (or so he says anyway) Black, Grey, and Pink kite. It took me quite a bit of humming and hawing weighing out the options. I really didn't want the color, but I didn't want to wait for a possible two more months. I know that the color isn't what most would consider an awesome color to have, but in the end I decided that a kite was a kite and if it was still the same kite, why should the color matter all that much. My wife has been getting interested in kiting recently so maybe I could end up passing it down to her when she finally decides to give it a try. So yeah, I know that there is a chance that the other kites could show up sooner than expected but I'm tired of waiting I just want to get flying. Again thanks for all your guy's comments I appreciate it. :bigok:

shaggs

p.s. I'll post pics when it comes in.

BeamerBob - 4-11-2009 at 06:52 PM

You will forget what color it is when it really counts. (When it's flying) I always fret about what color to order when I have a choice but when I ordered my 15m synergy, I gave a preferenced order of colors and didn't know what I got till I unpacked it. Dakitez said it was a surprise since I got my first choice. But I really didn't care which color it ended up being.

bobalooie57 - 4-11-2009 at 07:22 PM

I've seen that color scheme, and I think it looks great (but imho the rasta scheme will always be the best, and it has been discontinued)

shaggs2riches - 4-11-2009 at 09:56 PM

actually does anyone have an image of what this scheme will look like?? I've looked all over google and I can't find one.:dunno:

Maven454 - 5-11-2009 at 04:14 AM

I don't know, I'm rather confused. I didn't think that was an available color scheme for an Ozone Access. That is still what we're talking about, right?

As a general rule, limited runs are generally non-stock colors.... think the Punk (Pink) Flexifoils..... standard products in non-standard colors.

Now if only we could get them to do a run in either :ninja:

ragden - 5-11-2009 at 06:11 AM

Color? schmolor. Who cares what it looks like, as long as it flies!

shaggs2riches - 5-11-2009 at 06:30 AM

yep I'm now in a state where I'm quite interested in what this kite will look like. What shade of pink will it be? will it resemble older access2 kites with the pink, gray, and blue scheme? I'm eager to get it now. Yeah this is still a 2010 access xt. But like stated above by a few people, I'm at the point where it don't matter what it looks like as long as it does the job.;) I'm definitely happy that he called me giving me this option.

Didn't the Access come with Black/Red/Grey as a standard color last year?

Anyway, I've got a 4m Access in the pink/black/grey and I think it looks awesome. Plus its somewhat unique.....hadn't even heard of another one until now.

Color might not really matter. But I think it matters quite a bit in some ways. Would you say that the color of your car doesn't matter.....only performance? I don't think so.

It seems hard to believe that Ozone wouldn't have the bulk of the 2010's in dealers hands for another two months.

bigkid - 5-11-2009 at 08:15 AM

Is color really that big of a deal? I say NO. IMO, I have never heard that the blue kite fly's better than the red one. I would be happy just to have the kite.
And on a second note, I bought my truck for the engine, that's right, "PERFORMANCE", not color.
I think the addiction is taking over, I need another kite, any size, any color, any make, but I want it now!!!! ;)

Yes.... that would probably be fine... if John hadn't posted a review of a 2010 6M Access XT (early demo release) that not only made it sound like it hung the moon, but rearranged all the stars to maximize the state of celestial Feng Shui. :wow:

big kid, would you have bought your big powerful truck if it was painted florescent pink?
But they say pink is the new black, so we can all expect tdmc96 to show up in pink Harley leathers soon. ;)

Color isn't a deal breaker, and definitely takes a back seat to performance, construction, ease of use, field serviceability, and a long list of other things.

However, I don't see a problem with having a color preference. If you pick clothes out of the closet blindfolded or by scent (ewwww) .... cool. Otherwise chalk it up to YMMV and do what makes you happy. Just not a topic to get denominational about.....

As to cars/trucks..... I guarantee you there are colors where people got a bargain because that was the only way they were going to move them off the lot. There are certainly vehicle colors you haven't seen since the 1970's and in some cases, for very, very good reasons.

Color schemes that have gotten kudos (other than from me) on the forum: ATB,
Sam

bigkid - 5-11-2009 at 08:30 AM

I am perfectly content with my feminine side and a pink truck would have been fine, 600+ HP looks good in any color:lol:
Both of my pink kites were borrowed by my grand daughter and I have yet to get them back.

bigkid - 5-11-2009 at 08:37 AM

indigo_wolf, I agree, sometimes you just want what you want.
Who knows the pink might be a color that is highly desirable in the future.

I did get my quiver of Century II's in the color I wanted, Blue, not Red. LOL

DAKITEZ - 5-11-2009 at 09:46 AM

I have had customers cancel orders before, because i did not have the color they wanted. Even so far as a person wants a certain brand / model kite, but they don't like the colors so they go with something else. So this definitely shows people care about colors. I'm not saying all people, but people do care.

I'm not too picky on colors, but I know its nice when I throw up a kite and it doesn't have the usual white on the bottom.

Bladerunner - 5-11-2009 at 05:33 PM

brplatz - 5-11-2009 at 06:26 PM

Hey Blade I'm right there with you on that one! But I might wait, cause I want it in Red:D

shaggs2riches - 6-11-2009 at 03:18 PM

So the pink kite will be shipped either today sometime or tomorrow morning. I was digging around on the internet trying to find a image of the kite without any luck. After an hour of searching I decided to check out flyozone.com. I couldn't find an image there either; however, I decided that maybe if I sent Ozone a message about this kite, that maybe someone from their team would be able to put me in the right direction.

This was the series of messages sent:
(From Me)
"Hi! I recently have accepted an offer to purchase a 2010 Ozone Access XT 6m kite. The color scheme is of one that I have never seen before pink, gray, and black. I thought that I would dig around to see if I could find a picture of this kite but with no luck. I have found the access xt in the other color schemes that you have listed on your website and on other websites. I was told that this was a limited run or some sort of promotional color. Either way I understand that this will be a rare color, so I was more than happy to accept it as my order. So I was wondering if someone from your team would be able to point me in the direction of an image of a 2010 model that is in this color. I understand if you cannot offer any help with this matter. I will not be receiving this kite in the mail for a couple weeks and just getting anxious. If you can help me it will be greatly appreciated."

Thank You
Colton Sauve

(From Ozone rep)
"Hi Colton, this kite was issued as a special for schools, can you please let me know where you are buying the kite?"

I replied with a simple message stating that I was not aware of this situation and that by no means did I intend on having anyone get into trouble for selling something that they were not suppose to. I left it at that waiting to see what he replies with.

I don't want to cause trouble for the guy I bought my kite from, so I am kinda nervous to tell him who I bought it from. By no means was getting him in trouble a part of my plan. If I new that it was gonna go this way, I woulda just left it alone. Kinda lost with this one, so I'm turning to you guys for thoughts on what you would do.

indigo_wolf - 6-11-2009 at 03:36 PM

Leave the country, change your name and swear everyone on the forum to secrecy.... some bribes might be involved.

Not sure there is a graceful way to retract the request.

Probably should have contacted the dealer for a pic, but that's hindsight and a lot of carrots. Probably still best to give the dealer a heads up and let him iron out the etiquette wrinkles.... I don't see anyone getting gigged to hard on this.

Ozone posts there custom kites in their Media section [ http://media.flyozone.com/main.php?g2_itemId=20837 ] (need to cut and paste the link... direct hyperlinking doesn't work) , but they don't post all of their customs or limited runs there.

Black Helicopters with understated Ozone logos have been dispatched to your location. ;)

Pink and black is the new pink and black ! :smug: This thing is as pink as black can get!

CRAZY aspect ratio to. Does anybody know what the aspect ratio is ?

Now the new Twister, that's Red and Black .

airin - 7-11-2009 at 10:42 AM

Ohhh, the pink....it looks so good in the sky...kind of like a faded read...I'm in!

But, as my luck would have it all three of my power kites, the ones that I built my basic kite bag up from, are BLUE and, of course, white...sheesh...what's a girl to do?!

Now finally the trend will be broken with the upcoming green PL Hornet. :bigok:

Some day I will have the cash and the luxury to get the colours that I want in a kite but for the time being function wins over fashion.

Here's a pic of a pink Manta in MN. I think it looks cool. Pink Access would be sweet as well.

Never mind the guy in his boxers. It was warm that day he had to strip down to avoid overheating.. I've seen people wear more water kiting! Crazy MN kiters..

Bryce it is! Wild man. His gore-tex onesie was too much that day. I think he's bringing back the one piece, I wish I had one!

shaggs2riches - 5-12-2009 at 07:23 PM

Dude I remember at the end od last season my bros and I were at the local hill's last day for the year. It was +9c that day. We did three runs without shirts. Probably would have sucked if we bailed but it was a good time. That manta looks exactly like my access. I love the color scheme. Wish that once I get more kites I could somehow track down a 11m Frenzy and maybe if I'm feeling rich a 10 or 12 manta with the same scheme. Don't know why but IMO it would be awesome to have a complete set of foils in same colors. Hope you enjoy your access kiralikceset this is the only depower I've flown yet and I love it.

Cheers
