kites for light days

-mj- - 16-11-2009 at 03:47 AM

Hi everyone, light wind is always a pain for all traction sports, but you might remember the good old C-quad.
All the small sizes are gone but we have a lot (a lot really!) 8.5m C-quads that have been taking up space in our warehouse for a long time now and they need to go.

Obviously shipping them individually would cost too much, but if there's enough interest in these to ship a bunch to the US in one go I'd be happy to make a good price for them.

The 8.5m can (in the right hands) even get you going on the water when the rest is waiting for winds, obviously it's not the most high tech solution but they'll provide a laugh at least.
And we even have some stock left of the tubes for water use.

What I need is someone willing to distribute in the US (looking for dealer here) and enough interest to make shipping cheap.

Good winds,

ripsessionkites - 16-11-2009 at 05:00 AM

for you collectors, its a keeper

its still a good buggy engine. this thing screams upwind on 10 to 15m lines due to the single skin. probably why BeaN made a single skin in a higher AR profile.

"The C-Quad has the concept of a traditional foil but without the air-filled double skin. C-Quads have their inflatable ‘cells’ replaced by 4mm fiberglass rods. One long curved spar on the leading edge and several straight vertical spines. This creates a kite with an amazing amount of power per square meter. The very high lift and the power control make it a great kite for buggying, powerkiting or even snowkiting."

PS. can I get one for free being a TR.??... sorry had to ask. hehehe.

PS. can I get one for free being a TR.??... sorry had to ask. hehehe.

Sure buddy, when I can send a bunch down I'll throw one in for ya.

BeamerBob - 16-11-2009 at 06:38 AM

Consider me interested in an 8.5. I'm interested for the collector value (for keeping, not selling) and as a possible anti skunk tool to play with. I'm not sure if I"m going to need the 10.8 m Reactor II in California yet but this could be fun to play with on those days when the 8.6m RII won't quite get me rolling.

EDIT: GEEZ, that 8.5 is over 20 feet long!

bigkid - 16-11-2009 at 06:51 AM

I would be interested in 1 also, to add to my "Hmmmmmmm, what do I want to fly today?"

Bladerunner - 16-11-2009 at 07:25 AM

C-quads are a TON OF FUN.

They fly a bit different than anything else I have tried and I Love them.

Someone once called them " NPW on speed " . That is a great discription. HUGE abilaty to change the AOA with the stiff frame. Fast and lots of power. Just don't crash them, be carefull putting them back in the bag. Most damage happens those 2 ways. It is almost a 2 person job to pack these things.
I don't understand why these aren't more popular still ?
:bigok:

bigkid - 16-12-2009 at 05:15 AM

Has anyone heard anything about these kites coming to the US?

WolfWolfee - 16-12-2009 at 07:39 AM

How many kites are we talking about? A picture is worth a thousand words.

Kamikuza - 16-12-2009 at 07:42 AM

Bah ... manky Americans, you get all the good deals

bobalooie57 - 16-12-2009 at 08:17 AM

Yeah, I'd be in for at least 1!

FloRider - 16-12-2009 at 08:35 AM

I'd have to know a ballpark price, but you certainly have sparked my interest.

ripsessionkites - 16-12-2009 at 08:57 AM

they are coming ...

just getting counts in so we can place an order and have one big shipment come in.

for those not in a rush, we could send them to NABX for pick up too.

stetson05 - 16-12-2009 at 09:05 AM

Price is the key. I would like a low wind machine but the price decides.

B-Roc - 16-12-2009 at 10:20 AM

spare leading edge rods coming too?

tom kite - 16-12-2009 at 10:44 AM

im interested

cheezycheese - 16-12-2009 at 10:54 AM

i'm in... that is why i bought my big PINK PEEL-purely as a collector piece, but it has become one of my favorites to fly
:bigok:

bigkid - 16-12-2009 at 11:16 AM

I to would like one or ?
Are we going to need a trailer to bring all the stuff we tryout at NABX home with us?

f0rgiv3n - 16-12-2009 at 11:22 AM

Same here, I'd be in for one. depending on the price.

awindofchange - 16-12-2009 at 12:07 PM

MJ,

I would be willing to receive the shipment and distribute them out from here. I would also be willing to take a couple on myself. The C-Quad is really an awesome kite.

Let me know what will work out for you. I can receive all the U.S. kites into our warehouse and ship out from there which will save you and the people receiving them a ton in shipping.

furbowski - 16-12-2009 at 12:10 PM

I'd be good for one... always looking for low wind fun....

(edit... And what's that about spare rods?)

lunchbox - 16-12-2009 at 12:25 PM

I'm in for one as well (if the price is not too extreme)...

WELDNGOD - 16-12-2009 at 03:33 PM

I'm in for one, if price is right.

seems fun..ill pay 35 bucks

Kamikuza - 16-12-2009 at 08:43 PM

If someone's willing to ship here - depending on the price - I'll take one ...
I read that the spars are massively long - may make shipping too much :(

art_lessing - 17-12-2009 at 01:12 AM

this kite looks like fun until one crash....then those spars would sink you....I know because I was first into stunt kites. One day it was real windy and the thing did great as a buggy engine until it nose-dove one time and snapped several spars to the point of costing more than the kite to fix....carbon fiber spars are pricey ...too bad too because the thing was way more responsive than anything else.......

-mj- - 18-12-2009 at 07:51 AM

I'm counting about 13, I know of a few more, maybe come up to 20 kites.
I'll decide on price coming monday for 25 pieces.

I can try to throw in one or two spare spars per kite (Reply to Art's post because he has a point there).

couple people interested in distributing, thanks for that.
But please note that when I make a real low price there isn't much money to be made on these, none for me either btw.

service like idea to get you US peeps rollin cause it seems no-one has "euro" winds there.

bobalooie57 - 18-12-2009 at 08:03 AM

-mj- would there happen to be any of the inflatable tubes laying around? (per Rip's spec. chart?) I would be interested in these also. Maybe include a few in your bundle?

ripsessionkites - 18-12-2009 at 10:29 AM

They aren't really inflatable tubes. They are more like pool noodles in a smaller diameter and not the funky colours too. They come in grey only and they sit inside pockets on the c-quad. They help the kite float when crashing into the water.

If marijn doesn't have any I'm already talking with someone that had a few laying around before their shop closed up.

markite - 18-12-2009 at 11:41 AM

yes - C-quads are great power/speed and upwind ability.
If anyone is interested in putting one on the old quad line bars I have a couple of those kicking around - the kitesurfer version (yellow bar) that I can give away. There may be the Peter Lynn C-Quad bars still available as well?
Mark
PS - also great in winter just be careful on the really cold days and ice for rod breakage

awindofchange - 18-12-2009 at 08:30 PM

Ricardo - the tubes do actually inflate.

really .. i must have an old old version with just noodles.

i see they do inflate, wtf ... can i get a refund. hehehe :tumble:

WIllardTheGrey - 19-12-2009 at 02:31 PM

I would love to get my hands on one pending price/:wee:

markite - 19-12-2009 at 02:51 PM

Like Richard, I've only seen the ones with the sleeve for the foam. They didn't really help relaunching the kite off water but they definitely keep it from sinking.
Do the inflated ones get the kite off the water a little more to break the surface tension? With the bigger kites that was also when we saw broken rods trying to peel them off water when they were stuck and then a wave would munch them.

zero gee - 19-12-2009 at 07:40 PM

Kite buddy of mine used them on the water (pre- noodle even), on snow and ground back in the day.

Some classic C-quad action...

Kamikuza - 20-12-2009 at 02:20 AM

Lots of shots from my hometown :) great place to live, if you don't mind being surrounded by New Zealanders

stetson05 - 22-12-2009 at 04:58 PM

Monday has come and gone and I am still curious about the price. I have an average 5-8 mph winds most days this month and would love to ride something

soccerflyer - 22-12-2009 at 06:25 PM

So you can actually get air in under 5 mph winds on these things?

stetson05 - 27-12-2009 at 08:10 PM

Still no price? :dunno:

ripsessionkites - 28-12-2009 at 01:05 AM

Marijn is on VC for another week.

bobalooie57 - 14-1-2010 at 07:13 AM

Any word on the C-Quads?

bobalooie57 - 27-1-2010 at 07:33 AM

:dunno:

bobalooie57 - 18-2-2010 at 07:28 AM

 resurrection?

Bladerunner - 18-2-2010 at 07:51 AM

I'm not sure about the shipment but I plan to take at least 1 of my C-quads to NABX this year.

bobalooie57 - 18-2-2010 at 07:55 AM

Well, since NABX is not in the budget this year, I guess I will have to wait forthe video.:puzzled:

lad - 18-2-2010 at 08:37 AM

I'd be interested too, depending on price.

NABX also sounds tempting, but I still can't envision myself schleping out there all the gear I'd want/need to take.

BeamerBob - 18-2-2010 at 10:44 AM

I'm taking everything to nabx and picking up my 10.8m Reactor II when I get there. I hope the wind doesn't still go outside the boundaries of my quiver. I'd still be interested in one of those c-quads though just because they are nostalgic and different.

tobytobsen - 18-2-2010 at 01:52 PM

mj -

Where in the Netherlands are the cquads located? I am currently in Germany, only 20 minutes from the Dutch border near Venlo, Limburg.

Can you get me a price if i come pick up?

Thanks,

Toby

Good to know. I hadn't realized that from anything I had read. Any idea on the price yet. For most of us that is the big deciding factor. Also timing is huge. This was offered in November and 3 months later we are still waiting on a price.

ripsessionkites - 19-2-2010 at 08:24 PM

MJ put the thought out there but the PL Boss has to decide that. ill bug MJ again and again for some new input

If you look at the end of the link/page, you'll see that there was an option for controlling the C-Quad with a bar. Maybe for ease of hooking in on water?
edit: sorry, I meant to post this after roc's inquiry about control bar in the For Sale section! oops!

indigo_wolf - 25-2-2010 at 11:29 AM

If you aren't going to make it to NABX or are just chomping at the bit, BBRex has had some C-Quads up for grabs for quite some time now... and they are already stateside.

Not looking to sour anyone's deal, but things sometimes get lost in the Sale section, so I thought it was worth a "heads-up".

ATB,
Sam

bobalooie57 - 25-2-2010 at 11:42 AM

Yes, I saw that, and I also saw that rocfighter was interested, but thought he needed a bar. BR clarified that they fly best on handles, I was just pointing out the bar option.(and figured people might see how much they are asking for new c-Quads, so won't be too sticker shocked should the 8.5's make it here! :o )

rocfighter - 25-2-2010 at 11:53 AM

At 2:15 is that Ripp the redbull kid bestering the cows?

I saw those for sale but really looking for the 8.5 for low wind. I might not need it after I get the flysurfer S1.5 17m though. Time will tell.

There were some personal models out and about. They stored up in round flat bags.

Bladerunner - 7-4-2010 at 04:45 PM

The guy flying on poles had the 8.5 C-quad hooked up. Not exactly a good example.

My 4.2 was all knotted up and I never got it straightend in time to fly it.
