Anyone tried this?

Kamikuza - 26-11-2009 at 11:41 PM

http://www.kitehero.com/

Cheap enough that it's not worth me making one  assuming I don't get raped by the shipping

heliboy50 - 27-11-2009 at 01:08 AM

No but it gives me some ideas- zip tying to my bridle kind of worked but the camera tended to flip around a lot.

indigo_wolf - 27-11-2009 at 02:00 AM

$45 :shocked2: :puzzled: Ouch!!!

Given the size of the GoPro, that's probably about 12" of plastic. I know it's a niche market and all, but....

Ouch!!

Sam

Kamikuza - 27-11-2009 at 02:46 AM

Not even an hours wages ... take me longer to go buy the acrylic sheets

indigo_wolf - 27-11-2009 at 04:48 AM

Not averse to spending money.... it's just that that's about 1/2 of an Ozone Access SB Harness and 1/4 the price of a Turbo Bar. Heck..... It's about the same price as a Peter Lynn Kite Leash Pro w/ Handle-pass System. Price just seems high for what it is because it is a one off, and there is no competition.

I have spent more on pencils, but there was generally a whole lot more tech involved.

Sam

Velcro straps and a tounge depressure. And maybe a straw. :dunno:

Why...? :puzzled:
doesn't the old wood and lead model do the job...

rocfighter - 27-11-2009 at 07:03 AM

I never buy pencils. They give them away every where you go. And pens too! :bouncy:

macboy - 27-11-2009 at 10:26 AM

There's something to be said about "the perfect pencil". I can't say I've spent more than $44.99 on one but definitely more than the average bear might. The expensive ones taste better ; )

 & I used to do a lot of sketching. And before we go there, sketching and CAD aren't mutually exclusive.... the former doesn't require me to schlep a laptop around an airport looking for an outlet. Things got converted to CAD once I was done with about 80-90% of my edits.

If you aren't into (fanatical about) writing instruments, it would be the same as trying to describe why we spend the amount of money we do on kites, safety gear, Wichard shackles ;), etc. to someone who doesn't fly.

Anyway... the pencil in question is a Faber-Castell TK-matic 0.5 (yeah.... probably named by someone who later went onto to name kites). Stainless steel barrel, dual-knurled grip, and fully automatic (lead is dispensed as you write without having to press the plunger at the back of the pencil except when first loading it). Absolutely perfectly balanced.... has some heft, and just feels "right" in your hand.

Somewhere along the way it became a bit of a cult item. What was bought for $40-$45 then, now goes (if you can find them) for North of $200-300.

Not mine, but here are some pretty pictures.

FWIW: I am using the same TK-Matic now as I did 20+ years ago.

Have similar quirks about knives and EDCs.

Sam

P.S. If you are stumped on what to get me for Christmas, I know of a really nice belt buckle.... only 18,000 Euros... not sure what shipping from Switzerland would be.

cheezycheese - 27-11-2009 at 11:53 AM

Busting chops is a long accepted activity among family members ;)

I think in another thread, it was noted that we are all weird in our own special ways  ... so I guess we all embrace our inner weirdo in our own ways.

:wee::wee::wee: Normal is soooo overrated.

@rocfighter
While my hair doesn't extend to my waist, I do have a built-in apparent wind meter ;)

ATB,
Sam

P.S. Apologies to Kam for the thread veer. :saint:

rocfighter - 27-11-2009 at 01:30 PM

I apologise as well Kam, But I have to add that I love my long hair and beard and as odd as some folks in the world find it. I only regret it on bad days at work. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and I some days find myself covered head to toe in oil and grease. I keep it tied up very well but sometimes the worst can happen! And it's very hard to clean:mad: out of all this hair of mine!!

indigo_wolf - 27-11-2009 at 02:59 PM

But GoJo is cheaper by the tub/barrel.

<* ducking *>

WELDNGOD - 27-11-2009 at 04:41 PM

hey , I got a $385 MILLER welding sheild that I abuse daily.

end of hijack, sorry for said hijack

Kamikuza - 27-11-2009 at 05:25 PM

Hijack away! It's all good  and interesting, these candid moments that colour our lives :D

I tend to go cheap and with multiple replacements ... I got about eight MS FFB joysticks in the cupboard cos I saw them cheap in a used stuff shop - paid $5 for each. They go on eBay for $150 but I'll never sell 'em :D Simming is my winter geekiness ...

Geeky moment #4237

Realizing that you might be over the newly reduced carry-on baggage limit, you start doing some creative rearranging in the waiting area. Just before you are forced to admit defeat, you look around... pause... look around again... and surreptitiously start donning your safety gear... underneath your clothes and jacket.

Errr ummmm.... not that I am admitting to having ever done that, but they do say that holiday travel can be dangerous... so you can never be too safe.

Sam

Kamikuza - 27-11-2009 at 06:47 PM

HA HA HA awesome!
What I usually do is load up an old Duty Free bag, give it to the wife then check in separately ... although the only country we have REAL trouble with weight limits is bloody New crappy Zealand ... bunch of nazis!

indigo_wolf - 27-11-2009 at 06:51 PM

Alas, I don't think the Duty-Free bag trick works when you are travelling within the borders of a country, but it would be worth it just to mess with their minds. Muuuahhhhh!!!!

Oi.... I am sooo sleep deprived.

rocfighter - 27-11-2009 at 08:17 PM

Baking soda to clean grease and oil out of hair is a proven methed. And it costs about $0.50 per pound box. And I use it in the laundry for my work cloths as well.
I have a photo light welding helmet I use about daily that cost a whopping $45.00 SAWWEEEEET!

WIllardTheGrey - 28-11-2009 at 03:36 AM

And my coworkers think I'm nuts to let the customers use my $7 pen, but my theory is that people only pocket the cheap pens if its a good one thay (almost) allways hand it back.

No, i haven't gotten to the straight edge yet.... i just hate shaving creams in a can. So i found this really awesome shaving soap and got a brush, then started looking at other brushes and well i'm sure you can figure out the rest.... :smug:

If you ever try a miller elite, you will understand why yours was less than 50 bucks:ninja:

Jovver - 1-12-2009 at 06:18 AM

Would that kitehero work with a 5 line setup?

Now that's funny! I can see myself coming to the exact same conclusion. Just hope security doesn't dig too deep and wonder what you are preparing for.

WELDNGOD - 1-12-2009 at 03:51 PM

I can see it now, standin there w/ helmet on. 661 pressure suit ,knee/shin gaurds ,impact shorts ,playa dust floatin in the air .
Yeah , that would be a kodak moment fo sho.

Oh ,yeah don't forget the harness, that's sure to turn some heads :o

rocfighter - 1-12-2009 at 04:18 PM

WeldNGod, I have used those sweet hemets as well. And they are indeed nice. And the screen is far larger and a bit quicker.
But the sad fact is I am just to damned cheep to buy one! Plus thats all the more I can spend on toys.

Jovver - 11-12-2009 at 06:07 AM

Would this Kitehero thing work with a 5 line LEI?
