New Bling for my Coyotes

Bladerunner - 20-1-2010 at 05:40 PM

Srewyfits took on a challenge and came through SHINING !

Last year I suffered cracking of my rims do to speed wobbles at NABX.

I asked Dirk if He felt that it would be possible to turn a set out of aluminium like his buggy. He checked with " his people " and said he could !

They are done and they are WAY WAY better than I imagined. I only hoped for turned disks and got peices of art !

Screwey doesn't do anything 1/2 way !! I think he and his cousin enjoy a good challenge.

Got a technical problem that needs special machining ? Screwy 'll do it !:thumbup:

WOW ! I know you are happy bro, and I'm happy for ya

Kamikuza - 20-1-2010 at 06:06 PM

Holy #@%$#! they're beautiful ...!

Bladerunner - 20-1-2010 at 06:21 PM

I think that Screwy's Cousin is open to other challenges ?

Got an Idea . Put the screwy to it !!! :singing:

These wheels are only 6 inch . They look like buggy rims but are actually much smaller.

Thanks Dirk and Sean !!!

indigo_wolf - 20-1-2010 at 07:56 PM

Those are gorgeous..... Woogly

Awwwww.... I really wish you hadn't said that.

OK.... now for the indelicate questions

ATB,
Sam

flexiblade - 20-1-2010 at 07:57 PM

Beautiful work there Screwy - how's it been hanging? Are you dealing with the same wind drought as the rest of us Nor CALers, or do you have a secret stash of wind that you've been hording? Again, excellent work on the rims.

cheezycheese - 20-1-2010 at 09:32 PM

Can't say anything that hasn't been said, but they are beautiful....

airin - 20-1-2010 at 09:55 PM

Gorgeous! Glad you got 'em BR, you'll really feel solid on those rims!

canuck - 20-1-2010 at 11:13 PM

Awesome:thumbup: He might have to turn a few more - can't wait to see the real thing in action at NABX

...just what I'm thinking, these could be part of the solution for a really nice pair of homemade coyotes... :o

Bladerunner - 21-1-2010 at 06:26 AM

I just got the word that the fellow who made these for me will try and get to NABX with Screwy and the NorCal gang !

PHREERIDER - 21-1-2010 at 08:51 AM

wow those are stout.

i need a set

erratic winds - 23-1-2010 at 06:48 PM

Bling! Looking gooooood. How much did that run you if you don't mind me asking? *visions in head of custom combination coyotes & doomwheels*

Bladerunner - 24-1-2010 at 09:27 AM

I think I got WAY too good a deal to announce on here.

Now that Screwy and company have a grasp of how to turn them the cost may be more ? I think they are open to do jobs for other members ? Try contacting Srewyfits .

I have a feeling it will be more affordable than you are thinking !!!!

I was expecting something far more crude at the price. A solid disc with little detail. The BLING blew me away. :bisou: :bisou:

erratic winds - 25-1-2010 at 08:53 PM

I'll have to determine how serious I am about it first. Frankly, I should probably fly and ride what I've got more instead of dreaming of other toys!

SCREWYFITS - 29-1-2010 at 03:48 AM

Hey all,

"STOKED" everyone likes these...:thumbup::thumbup:

Sorry, I haven't been surf'n PKF recently due to the off season we are having, I'm geared up for my ride (car) and work right now...

Sorry Flexiblade, no wind here either... this sucks!!!

I'd love to take credit for these, "All the credit" goes to my cousin Sean at SVS Engineering, "FANTASTIC JOB", he is the brainyack behind the XM4B (fully suspended ATB) and a really trick fly reel ("The Dragonfly" fly fishing reel) he's an amazing machinist and doesn't do anything half a$$... I'm truly amazed at these also, as I mentioned to him (Sean) that a disk rim was sufficient as BR mentioned and requested was sufficient also (we where looking for strength more than BLING), Bladerunner got a family rate and unfortunately cannot be passed on, but I'm sure my cousin is willing to take on any new challenge, and as BR mentioned also, probably less than you'd guess.

Sean has confirmed that he'll be at NABX 2010 and is trying to get a XM4B to make an appearance also (not yet confirmed)... He's doesn't have an exclusive ride (buggy) for NABX but will have access to both my buggies (along with my dad) as long as I'm not in it... HeHe... He's just getting some decent experience bugging so he's stoked on this trip... I'm hoping to find him a exclusive ride so he can just come and go as he wishes, Dakitez might have a 2nd bug this year, so who knows, I'm sure there will be plenty for him to play with...

Bladerunner, I'm way stoked for you, them are "SICK TO THE BONE!!!" and cant wait to rip past them out on the playa :moon: LOL... looking forward to hanging and flying with ya brutha!!!:wee:

SCREWY AS I WANNA BE!!!

PHREERIDER - 29-1-2010 at 06:49 AM

very nice wheel set,

curious as to the bead seat on the lip. i have a set COYOTES OME rims,

the tires while seated with pressure will move around a little on long hauls and hard landings it eventually eats the tubes.

any thoughts on a split rim version with exact tire bead dimensions kinda like ATB split rim?
finally get to see this board looks like solid piece of hardware.

Bladerunner - 29-1-2010 at 07:31 AM

Rims are in transit. I think NABX will be the acid test. Make a point of meeting Screwyfits when there and if they pass the test he can help you out.
Try him ahead by message. Screwy is a great thinker. He and Sean can probably help you out !
:cool2:

Screwy, Just bring the family by the Canadian camp and we will set your family up with whatever we can.

SCREWYFITS - 29-1-2010 at 08:46 PM

Hey BR,
I think they attempted delivery today, did you get'em or miss'em?

@ PHREERIDER,
I think what you'd be best off with is a bead locking rim, basically there is a bead lip on the inside that backs the tire bead and then a bolt on lip for the outside that sandwiches the tire bead, very sweet set up, used for off-road vehicles, rock crawlers, baja... there are some amateur 4x4's that trill holes in the outer lip and run self tapping screws into the bead to lock them down, you'd need a metal rim for that, them OEM plastics would weaken too much and not hold up with that option...
"food for thought...":puzzled:

macboy - 30-1-2010 at 12:30 AM

:o

Words can't even................

Wow.

SCREWYFITS - 30-1-2010 at 04:34 PM

OK... looks like they got delivered today... interested in seeing them mounted...

Bladerunner - 30-1-2010 at 04:38 PM

They are here and they are amazing!

I can't thank you enough! :wow:

SCREWYFITS - 30-1-2010 at 07:18 PM

SOOO SWEET, you are very welcome...

I cant wait to hear about the carry over problems, popping tires... as these should cure the previous problems and take you to the next level and problem... LOL...

Yaa know... I kinda cut my own throat here in helping you, now your gonna be that much harder to catch up too... LOL... I kinda wanna be there to see the grin from ear to ear as you break personal records... It's all worth it mang!!!

Good luck and enjoy!!!

And, I'll see you at NABX!!!

Bladerunner - 31-1-2010 at 08:43 AM

UMMMMMM

I have created a wonderful problem for myself ?

When I saw that Phree had Coyotes I encouraged Him to work on progression knowing his natural abilaties would surpass mine fast.

Phreerider is now going to join us at NABX and I am about to get some Skoolin' .

I DO think tires will be far less likely to pop with these new rims. I'm sure I can trust them now and ride through speed wobbles . Unfortuntaely they may not be a big enough advantage to beat Phree' at my own game ! :ninja:

It will be interesting out there. With Chad's challenges I'm certian to make new personal records while being put to shame by the younger fellow. I'm good with that ! I have always done better following someone who has it all figured out ? :dunno:

Phre' may go faster but I'll look most flasshy trying to pass him. :wee:

PHREERIDER - 31-1-2010 at 09:40 AM

gonna be fun no matter what.

THE SHOW

THE GO

THE MAD HOT FLOW

it's all good

BeamerBob - 31-1-2010 at 12:05 PM

and the rest of us get to enjoy the show, the go, and the mad hot flow. You guys will push each other and learn from each other. It will be fun on our side as well.

macboy - 1-2-2010 at 12:13 AM

Oh man I hope I can amp up some skills on the snow here before I hit the road......you guys are getting me so pumped up!

Is it too early to start packing?

Last year I went from 2 weekends of kiteskiing to Ivanpah. It was so bizzare. So much the same and yet different ! :spin:

macboy - 1-2-2010 at 11:54 AM

In "bling envy" I've been thinking of ways I could try to represent.......thoughts? Imagine....six little loops of light screaming across the playa

Too bad the wheels probably wouldn't turn cuz the valve caps stick out too much ; )

SCREWYFITS - 7-2-2010 at 09:09 PM

So how we looking BR, you get a chance to get them mounted? if you can throw a pic up when you get'em mounted up on the coyotes and with tires... I'm excited to see'em...

See you down in NABX...

Bladerunner - 8-2-2010 at 07:36 AM

The bearings are a SUPER tight fit. I don't have a bearing press. I took them with me to pass to KC888 so he could do the job and then realized I hadn't brought the spacers.

I may not se KC tripple eight for two weeks now.

I doubt I'll get them out much before NABX but will post picks as soon as they are mounted !

Thanks again ! :cool2:

bling

snowspider - 9-2-2010 at 05:10 PM

I think that stuff in glow sticks can be "painted" on to give you the lighted wheel effect. I see visions of glowing gear flying thru the dark.

SCREWYFITS - 9-2-2010 at 10:36 PM

yeah, Sean mentioned that he made the bearings fit tight as the bearings he had, had a lil rust so he felt that they would be a tad loose without the rust... they should just tap in with a rubber hammer though... If we need him to take a lil off the bearing seats we can... if they are that tight, it's gonna be a #@%$#! to take them out, hope they last forever... LOL...

macboy - 9-2-2010 at 10:43 PM

snowspider - last winter they had a festival here called "winterlight" and during a star party out in the boonies some of the locals slipped those red LED turtle lights into the intakes on their kites and took 'em for a rip. Rumor has it it was cool but they could have used more light (they had to stick to red LEDs because of the astronomy stuff going on).

Might have to bring a handful to NABX.....

No reason you couldn't press bearing in with a decent sized vice ...?

Bladerunner - 10-2-2010 at 06:37 AM

I used to have a full shop but not with my new job. He has the right tools + ideas to get them in. I'm not in a rush and trust him.
YES , I am aware I'll have to destroy the bearings to remove them.
Better tight than loose!

PHREERIDER - 10-2-2010 at 07:19 AM

a ceramic set would be as permanent as it gets but may cost more than the rims .

the races are brittle and will not tolerate alot of "make it fit encouragement" .

hope they drop in without stress, i want to see action!

Bladerunner - 1-3-2010 at 08:23 PM

Here they are on the Coyotes and ready to make some dust.

Those just couldn't look any better. Very Bling. I love turned aluminum and those have style oozing out of them.

WOW!

Kamikuza - 1-3-2010 at 09:54 PM

Hubba hubba!

PHREERIDER - 2-3-2010 at 07:21 AM

very nice, lifer gear for sure. weight /\ ?

run them up to speed with a drill or lathe , see if the shake or run out.

should be all the same . i would think you could hold a little more speed if they are a fraction heavier.

Bladerunner - 2-3-2010 at 07:37 AM

I didn't weigh them but I think they are not a lot more heavy at all. I never expected all the extra weight to be shaved off but am sure pleased with the results !:cool2:

With Olympics, having to travel to kite and B'days it has been busy. I only managed to do the tires while watching the hockey game.

I plan to take my complete back-up stock set up to NABX. Hopefully as a loaner set not for parts.

Nothing like real world testing !

SCREWYFITS - 7-3-2010 at 09:01 PM

That looks F'n sweet as all get out!!! right on mang!!! glad you'll be styling out on the playa, I'm gonna have to do my hair real nice to keep up with ya... LOL...
