Nova Kites

nocando - 24-3-2010 at 04:19 AM

Are Nova kites an Ozone clone?

Are they any good?

WolfWolfee - 24-3-2010 at 04:33 AM

IMHO if you don't recognize the name it's a knock off and the answer is no

Maven454 - 24-3-2010 at 04:33 AM

Nova kites (at least if they're a power kite and if you're finding them on e-bay) are one of jonesband's knock-offs. They are worthless, useless %$^#. Technically, they are believed to be ripoffs of the HQ Montana.

acampbell - 24-3-2010 at 07:12 AM

Even the product description text is a direct cut-and-paste from the Montana 2 copy in the 2007 HQ catalog. Word- for word. Just about everything about his products are fraudulent so stay away!

Edit: He has now changed some of the wording but the bullet points are essentially the same. He has swapped adjectives like"Outstanding" for "Extreme" and so forth but otherwise the same. Notice the borrowed "Leash-less safety system"

rocfighter - 24-3-2010 at 07:52 AM

When will E-bay do something about this guy? How many need to repert him for fraud?
Maybe if one of the companies he is ripping off needs to complain. There are a number of you who have contacts with these companies right? Do they know about him or is he not worth there attention?

acampbell - 24-3-2010 at 08:02 AM

Yeah, disappointing but not with the attention is what I hear back.

He gets around using "Flexfoil" by mis-spelling the name and claiming it as original.

awindofchange - 24-3-2010 at 12:37 PM

Just to clarify, Nova is a parent company of HQ kites - which is where Jonesripoffband ended up stealing the Nova name from. If you are inquiring about an HQ/Nova kite such as the Beamer, Crossfire, Scout, Apex or Montana then chances are it is a valid and authorized product. All of the power kites sold by HQ / Nova are sold under the HQ brand name, not the Nova brand name so if the kite you are inquiring about is listed as a Nova power kite, then it is one of the junky rip-off copies and I would NOT buy it because you will not be happy.

If you are inquiring about the Air-Extreme or Nova Power Kite 9.5 which is referred to as being "Montana like" then chances are it is a knock off brand and will fly like crap and end up blowing apart within the first couple flights under power.

All HQ products can be purchased complete, ready to fly including flying lines, safety systems and control bars / handles. HQ products will also be sold and backed by an authorized HQ retailer who would be more than happy to discuss your purchase with you face to face (or phone to phone). If you are still confused on what the product is that you are looking at on e-bay, post up a link to the product and people on here will look at it and then tell you exactly what the product is - and also tell you if the going price is worth it.

You can always drop an e-mail to HQ directly (or most any other manufacturer of power kites) and they too will tell you if the product is one of theirs or if it is an illegal second hand copy. Chris from HQ kites also frequents this forum and you can even PM him directly if you have any questions.

If the seller is indeed Jonesband then you are well warned to not deal with him as all of his products are illegal copies that are junk kites and will not perform or last anything like the actual products from reputable companies. Please do not get ripped off by spending your hard earned money on his junk rip-off products.

Hope this helps.

Bladerunner - 24-3-2010 at 04:45 PM

Oh boy! Jonesband is going to have the FBI after you now! :duh:

:megan:

awindofchange - 24-3-2010 at 05:15 PM

Yea, he can bring it on if it makes himself feel any better.

And BTW, Nova has nothing to do with Ozone, the NOVA kite being sold by Jonesband is actually a ripped off copy of the original Montana kite released by HQ. The new Montana 5 is now in it's 5th generation release, the NOVA is still a copy of the Montana 1's. So even though it is a very poor copy of the original released Montana (about 5-6 years ago), it is nothing like the latest released versions of today. Thing is that educated kite buyers know that they could get an original Montana 1 or 2 for much less than what Jonesband is trying to rip people off for on flee-bay for his knock off copy...and the Original Montana 1 and/or 2 would come complete, ready to fly with an active and working depowerable control bar and flying lines.

If you scroll down to the bottom of all of his posts, you will see that they state that lines and control bars are not included - these will cost you appx. $150 to $300 more to purchase - putting the cost of his junk kite near the same or even more than what you can buy a real authentic product for.

After a quick search, it appears that another user is selling a "used" one that was purchased from this guy, same listing, same deal of no lines / control bar. I hope that jonesband is not creating another identity on flee-bay - or worse, someone else actually got suckered into purchasing his garbage and is now trying to dump it and take a loss.

Education is the only solution to this type of garbage.

The only time jonesband kites replace the quality ones is when they're Photoshoped over scans from the manufacturer's brochures (as found in his auctions).

thanson2001ok - 25-3-2010 at 08:17 PM

Warning.

Another alias for jonesband on ebay is glileshop. Here is his account... http://myworld.ebay.com/glileshop/

He says he is located in WI but will ship his buggy(s) from TX. Says he just moved to WI and everything is in storage in TX.

Buggies are listed with the mispelling of "Flexfoil."

lad - 30-4-2010 at 05:40 PM

Notice that at least TWO barely used "Flexfoil" buggys are already being offered on eBay by their ecstatic owners...

Those $700 wider aftermarket wheels are still barrows on 4 inch rims. Photo perspective trick.

Jo.
New to the site and sport. I am trying to find a cheap maybe power kite even used. (very difficult to find used one online. Maybe someone could help me out here I would appreciate it. It’s a tuff sport to get into if you don’t have that much money to blow.)

After reviewing this forum I noticed the kite I was going to buy is from this infamous Jones brothers band or whatever his name is.
Just wanted to say thanks for letting me know before I wasted my cash.

Here’s the link to eBay Montana nova…(as someone trying to just start I thought this was legit before I started reading this.) :ninja:

PKF edit: link removed.

@darknightdevil
New to the sport, you want to take it easy. A 9M Montana-style kite will be a handful to a new kiter, maybe enough that you take it out once, and it scares you into selling it, often at a loss. Try to find someone to kite with, use their experience and equipment as your guide, if at all possible. If your budget is small, there are some very good deals right in the for sale section of this forum, on some smaller fixed bridle kites, if your budget is around $300.00, you could probably get 2 good used kites for that amount. I know, everyone that ever started in this sport wanted to get a first kite that would get them some sweet air time, but a kite like that can hurt the inexperienced, and its hard to fly when you are hurt. I don't know anything about you, how big, how much experience you have with wind, what your local winds are like (inland often = gusty, shore clean) ave.speeds, or what you want to do with kiting, etc. but I do know that most here would advise a 4-line kite in the 3M range, you will use to learn the basics of flight, the wind window, safety, etc. without posing too much of a danger to yourself or others. Then when you have experience it will be your high wind kite, and one you use to turn others on to the sport. Good luck, have fun, welcome to the forum, lots of good info here, and stay safe. Just my fitty cents!
