Kite skating?

ICTKITEFLYER - 15-4-2010 at 05:37 PM

Does anyone here do any kite skating with rollerblades? I just bought a pair. I use to have some leap skates but my feet were too big. So it didn't work out so well.

Hullo! :Ange09:

I got some Gateskates but am trying to figure out how to get my feet in them too ... about 5mm too long are my shoes. I'm going to get around to buying a size or two smaller shoes ...

ICTKITEFLYER - 15-4-2010 at 05:51 PM

Dude that is a sweet video I will have to check out more when I get off of work. I was looking at buying a pair or Nordic Powerslides but I talked to a guy who sales them and he said my feet are too big I need a 14 mens US size. The 13 is pushing it and they only come in a 12.5.... So I will roller blade on pavement and build my custom buggy for now.....

Kamikuza - 15-4-2010 at 05:58 PM

I can get into US13 Nike's but not 13 Reeboks :puzzled: My daily leather shoes are size 12 and my bike shoes are too big at 12, trying to find 11 - but that's still bigger than 99% of the shoes in this country.

Oh I wish I could fit Coyotes ...!

Following advice I got on the forum here, I found a pair of Coyote Rollerblades. Great fun.

What size do you wear? I check out CL and eBay every now and then.

Kamikuza - 16-4-2010 at 05:38 AM

Size 13 ... at least :( although I have a pair of Roces Majestic 12's back in NZ ... they must be US12 surely. My Mission skates are US12 too - they're a good tight fight though ...

I started out on regular rollerblades, tarmac , a 3m JoJo and a 4.5 Bullet.

GREAT FUN !!! Be ready to burn up wheels. I would have to swap them around every session . Toe dragging to check speed is the culprit.

I have been thinking lately that it must be pretty easy to mod / marry the " blade " part of Coyotes to a ski boot ???? It's not flat but is bolt on ?

I have a beat up old set I could send someone if they wanted to try and make "Coyoteskis" !

Kamikuza - 16-4-2010 at 05:58 AM

Good ol' 4.5 Bullet
Yeah I mangle my wheels in a hurry ... got 72 & 80mm outdoor hockey wheels. It's the edging that does it for me.

IIRC my Maj12's are just riveted onto the chassis ... hmm ...

PHREERIDER - 16-4-2010 at 06:27 AM

skate wheels are too $ to smake a set EVERYTIME. 10-20min of fun and its over, really.

RB coyotes ..i'm a fan.

GET a comfortable boot! whatever the make

mount it on large coyote frames and your off

doom set with 8" wheels works well too (parts are more common and transfers from ATB stuff) not as nimble , more like skiing

good luck(do the asphalt/tarmac thing if want, but in general look for a safer playground)

Bladerunner - 16-4-2010 at 01:34 PM

I started buying rollerblades at garage sales just for the wheels. Like Phree said , it gets expensive otherwise. I didn't mind I was having WAY too much fun to worry about a small cost for wheels (and a possible fine that I never got )!!!!!

Kamikuza - 16-4-2010 at 07:13 PM

My hockey wheels last well - but then, they're designed to. You buy the cheapo clear type wheels they're gone in a few minutes ...

ICTKITEFLYER - 16-4-2010 at 08:35 PM

I was looking at a pair of Nordic Powerslides but I think they are going to be too small according to the guy that I walked to.... Bummed out....

Old videos but shows some nice kite skating in parking lots. Some shots of Nasa wing (NPWs) flown with short lines. great for crowded parking lots or around people.

Welcome Milesaway

No offence meant but I am curious why you would protect your knees and elbows but not worry about your brain ?

I kind of pad up the opposite way ? Helmet for sure then the other stuff . My logic is I can live with a busted joint but don't want to lose any more of my brain function . :borg:

milesAway - 21-4-2010 at 04:30 AM

None taken Bladerunner,

You are absolutely right about the protection! Your logic definitely makes sense.
However, I like to feel the wind! I like to hear it in my ears and on my hair. Its not only the feeling of freedom that I enjoy but it also helps me interpret the wind. I have tried the helmet but its a totally different thing. I can not fully understand the direction and its velocity the same way.
I know its certainly more dangerous but its a risk I am willing to take.

Bladerunner - 21-4-2010 at 05:15 AM

It's all good. Lots of folks around here don't use lids also.

I get a lot more banged up elbows and knees ( and butt ) than head . I'm still sticking with the lid!

I heard my old parking lot by science world is open again ! I'll have to get back out on the tarmac ! :wee:

Kamikuza - 21-4-2010 at 06:29 AM

Played inline hockey for 15 years or so, competitively for 4 ... only time I banged my head was intentional (I threw a tantrum) but it did get a puck in the head once too ...
For the last ten years, I been playing in shin gaurds and gloves and that's it. Never even banged up my elbows :)

Still ... I'd rather not take a binding nut in the head. I usually have one on the board. Great place to mount the GoPro too ;)

You sound like a Harley rider....only they don't see the risk ;)
