Newport, RI Area?

pokitetrash - 26-4-2010 at 11:03 AM

Anyone Buggying or Landsailing in Newport , RI area? I'm heading up that way from SC in June if anyone wants to meet up (Is it legal anywhere around there?) I've heard of some land sailing going on somewhere near there....

rocfighter - 26-4-2010 at 02:25 PM

In July there is a great kite fest on Brenton point at the southern end of Newport. They have room to buggy there but not on a beach. It is all grass. Maybe some one closer to there will know but I think first beach is ok as well. But like I said I'm not certain.
Or you could stop in CT on your way up and meet me at the state park Hamonasset. Great for buggying.

pokitetrash - 26-4-2010 at 04:24 PM

Hamonasset? Really? I grew up around there and am visiting for a week June 28 - July 2--Orange, Ct. Might stop over to check out Wildwood on the way by of course!

I'll U2U my contact info, let's hook up for sure!

rocfighter - 26-4-2010 at 04:53 PM

Sounds great. We have two buggies and a bunch of kites as well. I can get the time and we can make a day of it.

pokitetrash - 26-4-2010 at 05:06 PM

Excellent! Can you meet up on a weekday when the beach won't be as crowded?

dgkid78 - 26-4-2010 at 05:19 PM

I have been to Brenton point and I don't think there is really much room for buggy or landboarding. alot of single line, revs, deltas, and huge kites always up in the sky there. Newport RI is only 20 min from my house. I am not positive on the 2nd, 3rd beaches........as far as buggys and boards on the sand, you might have to check it out I am not sure, last i was there last summer there was a huge set of rules about bikes and stuff and times...Thats where all the kitesurfers are allowed to go. :dunno: Sorry I am not much help even though I am always in Newport but not for kiting. But you can sure as hell can come and meet me at my spot in New Bedford Ma, about 1/2 away at the fort. :spin: or if you do find any info about Newport I will go up there....Honestly though I have never seen a buggy or landboard in that area, always kitesurfing

pokitetrash - 26-4-2010 at 05:24 PM

dgkid78, cool info as well! U2U your cell if you like so we can keep up and try to make a plan somewhere during the week? Maybe get a big meet up going somewhere? So far Hamonasset is a good bet inrocfighter's hood. I'll go more than one day, I'm not too proud to invite myself!:cool2:

rocfighter - 27-4-2010 at 04:23 AM

Hey Pokitetrash DG may very well be right about the beaches. Like I said I wasn't sure. And the fields at Brenton point are smaller. But I have seen Doublespeed having a blast there in the past.
As for a weekday meetup it's no problem. I can get time off if needed. And if I have the granddaughter that day my youngest will be out of school by then so he can help out. I may try to get there a couple days a week to get more practice in. I just bought a PL buggy It should be here this weekend :wee:

pokitetrash - 27-4-2010 at 07:03 AM

Yea Roc, sounds like a real plan. We'll work out the day when it gets closer. I'll likely have my two youngest kids (14 & 12) with me who like to kite and sail Blokarts so if you have some youngsters who want to play, they can try the Blokarts as well while we buggy.

Do alot of people use Hamonasset to buggy and landboard? Alot of state parks dont allow that kind of activity -- any trouble ever?

rocfighter - 28-4-2010 at 03:50 AM

Well if the rain holds off today I am going to head down to Hamonasset to practice. Maybe I will even be successfull!!
Suppose to be 20-30mph so I think I'll stick to the smaller C-quads. But leaves are barely moving here now.

pokitetrash - 28-4-2010 at 05:56 AM

Be careful , if the winds are nuking like we had over the last few days here in SC (25 -35) you should have some scream like a girl moments! :Ange09:

A little road rash is a badge of honor!

doublespeed360 - 28-4-2010 at 05:53 PM

pokitetrash, hi ,i buggy at newport/brenton point mostly at the kite festival in a rope off area.i don't need much room i just want to ride, there a rock wall i get close to and ride up hill to the flag pole, i don't get to do that much so i get a kick out of that. chris shultz and i rode last summer till he got cut out by a single line.i rode at 2nd beach after the kite fest 6:30pm nice long rides but i was told there was some birds down there so i didn't ride down so far.i had my best time at hamonasset a couple of years ago.wind was blowing on shore and low tide was at 1 pm. i was in heaven. i rode on the fields on the hot top then the beach on my 4 meter and then i did a demo for sound winds kite fest.most people i have seen at a kite fest around here 20000 2 days i had wicked good time that year i was really tired and i had a long ride home but i have been wanting to do that beach ever scence i saw it but the tides werent right" great moments in kiting"im a fan of asking for forgiveness so look both ways and hurry up and get bugging, you can do it at least once before they say that not allowed

pokitetrash - 29-4-2010 at 06:14 AM

Cool -doublespeed! Are you talking about asking forgiveness at hamonasset or Breton Point, or second beach??

I don't mind pirating a beach run every now and then but this time I'm bringing family so I don't want to get the boot.

rocfighter - 30-4-2010 at 06:57 AM

Hey Double did you get any grap about the beach runs at Hamonasset? I have a PL std bug coming in a day or two and would love to hit that beach.

doublespeed360 - 1-5-2010 at 05:57 AM

just park near the entrance look for authority ride the other way.you might have to wait till they go by.check out the beach ,if all fails say i did not know sorry then come back tomorrow now you are experience.

rocfighter - 2-5-2010 at 04:30 AM

Sounds like a plan. I was planning to head down on Thursday. But I changed m mind about it and glad I did. The winds here in the woods were 20-30 steady with gusts of 50. I bet the shore was wild. We had loads of trees down and limbs and branches all over the place. I would have been in OZ!!:wee:

doublespeed360 - 21-5-2010 at 05:18 PM

on my way tomorrow morn to conn.

rocfighter - 24-5-2010 at 12:10 PM

Paul it was good to see you again. To bad I was so beat. Sundy I flew all day and now I'm beat again. I met Grouch and we flew together for a few hours but were held at bay by lots of families with single lines and little kids. They just don't understand when you say the lines under presure are like cheese slicing wire.

pokitetrash - 22-6-2010 at 02:44 PM

Hey, heading up to CT for sure for June 28 - July 2! Spoke to Doublespeed 360 and Been in touch with Rocfighter, so hopefully we'll meet up. I'll check in when I know a day that I can escape my family with my brother in law and ride.

cheezycheese - 22-6-2010 at 04:00 PM

hey guys, please lemme know your plans. maybe i can get out there too... :singing::singing::singing:

pokitetrash - 22-6-2010 at 04:27 PM

You Bet Cheezy!

dgkid78 - 22-6-2010 at 05:21 PM

if your still meeting in Newport with DoubleSpeed , let me know the plans also. I might be able to make it depending on the day :bigok:

rocfighter - 22-6-2010 at 05:50 PM

Cheesy you are always welcome to play in the wind.

frankiter - 25-6-2010 at 08:22 PM

Guys,
Hopefully we can make a Hamonasset meet up happen. If we can't (or even if we do) how about a plan B, which would be to meet up in Poughkeepsie? Cheezy, Pokite and I will be in Orange, Ct for a week, that's only an hour 20 min from you.

cheezycheese - 25-6-2010 at 08:50 PM

funny you should say that, they just cut the grass at this HOOJ field i've been eyeballin. the grass is still about two inches or so of that stuff that loves to grab lines, however it's got to be a few square miles and unobstructed by trees on two sides... will post some pics this weekend. :wee:

i spoke to Roc tonight and he's looking foward to meeting in CT also so let's make sumthin happen....

rocfighter - 27-6-2010 at 05:01 AM

THe only day I may have an issue with is Wednesday becouse I have one of the Grandkids all day. But I can make arrangments with one of the kids I hope if it turns out to be the best day.

rocfighter - 28-6-2010 at 03:55 AM

Ok so today the wind is expected to be 10-20 but bad storms this afternoon.
Tomorrow should be 10-15 West winds and no storms.
It looks like good weather the rest of the week at this point. But no news on the wind.

dgkid78 - 28-6-2010 at 12:27 PM

just to be sure.....so this isn't a Newport RI meet up? everyone now meeting in CT? :eekdrull:

rocfighter - 28-6-2010 at 01:47 PM

We are planning a CT meet up. But maybe next week we can do Newport. Plus the Newport kite fest is on the 10 &11th of July. Fun after all the folks go home!

indigo_wolf - 28-6-2010 at 02:17 PM

I just got an email that CC is going to be in the Nahant area next week. Ohhh.... this is just like trying to confirm tour dates for a concert.

Need to break out the autograph book, and make sure there is a fresh Bic on hand in case someone gets an impromptu "wave" going. :singing:

I wonder if Cheezy had some T-shirts or tour jackets made up before he left home.

ATB,
Sam

dgkid78 - 28-6-2010 at 02:53 PM
