Ivanpah buggy in the stable

BeamerBob - 2-6-2010 at 08:56 PM

I'm about to be the proud father of an Ivanpah Windspeed Pro buggy. It could be finished tomorrow but probably on Friday so I will have it middle to end of next week. I've been without for several weeks now, and its starting to wear on me.

I got it in stainless and this is the first out of the shop with a matte/brushed finish. I'll put barrows on it for now and save my pennies for a set of bigfoots for those soft sand opportunities and the rough ride on the NABX out n back challenge next year. The barrows are the tire of choice at the sodfarm.

Pics and video to follow to show what this finish looks like since this is the first one.

DAKITEZ - 2-6-2010 at 09:15 PM

get in your burb and go pick it up. Nothing like a test run on the playa on the way back. Don't forget to come by and get your wheel bearing spacers first

Maven454 - 3-6-2010 at 03:21 AM

That's Windspeed Pro, not Speedmaster Pro.

Todd - 3-6-2010 at 04:38 AM

Way to go Bob! They're a thing of beauty, very well built and the seat is amazing. A true Bark o lounger on wheels

More info on this buggy coming soon

mougl - 3-6-2010 at 05:43 AM

Congrats BB! The ivanpah is a nice bug for sure. Angus let me have a go on his at JIBE and his description of it to me was spot on....a lazy boy on rails :) ill be interested to hear you're impression of it when it comes to speed potential. Reason I say that is, once I'm able to move to an area with a bit more wind (and room) I'm going to be in the market for a faster bug :wee:

PHREERIDER - 3-6-2010 at 05:46 AM

SS nice BOB! Angus had a big red @ JIBE .

save your back get some help!

Bladerunner - 3-6-2010 at 05:58 AM

WOOP WOOP !

I thought you were GOING TO not getting an Ivanpah.

Take someone to a Ivanpah and give them a day of fun. Give them an IVANPAH and they will buggy for life !

I am curoius Bob. With your background, why isn't the ATB of more interest to you ?

BeamerBob - 3-6-2010 at 07:28 AM

Dino, it will only save me a few days and I'm already booked locally on Saturday, so I'll just be here watching for the big truck parked outside.

My mistake. Some of the pics I took of one had some Speedmaster tires on it and that's what I'm remembering. :duh:

Todd, nice choice on the desert colors! I figured all along that I would get a powder coated model and really fretted about picking the ultimate color. The stainless takes away that choice (and worry).

Mougl, comparisons with Dino's new MG will be continual. The design approach is different on each buggy so the pluses and minuses will come out after we race each other and trade buggies and do it again. In the end, having different buggies will be a source of chiding among the guys. Gotta love it.

Bladerunner, the board never appealed to me because of the shifty and low inland winds I typically had to deal with in GA. I like the sliding and turning and terminal speed that is a rush in the buggy. When one of the boys takes my buggy away, I grab a board and putter back and forth but those times happen so infrequently, that I never built any skills with it. The boys both have GI boards now and they are sturdy enough to hold me up so I've never ruled out the board its just that the buggy is instant fun and I know the board is going to bring trials and tribulations. I've seen blood running down the shins of guys that are better than I'd ever hope to be, so that doesn't help my board enthusiasm.

Beauty, BB, love the desert camo finish!

Dont lose it at Ivanpah walk away from it you wil never find it again

BeamerBob - 3-6-2010 at 08:13 AM

Just to note. That camo buggy is Todd's. He was just showing that he had one too and what his looked like. It's hard to choose a color when you can choose anything.

Maven454 - 3-6-2010 at 08:27 AM

You can choose anything for the powder coat color (Kent will let you powder coat a stainless, BTW), but the camo seat and side rail pads are one of a kind. That buggy was going to be my new one, but it would have been way too hard for me to transport.

Hardrock - 3-6-2010 at 09:06 AM

Didn't run Angus's down the beach but got to sit in it for a spell. That was almost too much. I try and stay away from things that will haunt me.

bobalooie57 - 3-6-2010 at 09:22 AM

Same reason I was reluctant to try a blo-kart at Wildwood, knowing it would haunt me...

Todd - 3-6-2010 at 09:26 AM

Sorry Bob didn't mean to cause confusion with posting that picture. Did you order the rear pack as well?

bobalooie57 - 3-6-2010 at 09:29 AM

My bad Todd, I didn't realise it was your post! I guess I'm not reading as well as I used to!

Not on my initial order but I'll pick one up before or at Nabx '11. My usual ride here doesn't take me far from the car, and we haven't taken advantage of the beaches here yet, so I'll recover my kite budget a little and get the bag. I need 3 kites and a set of bigfoots first.

acampbell - 3-6-2010 at 09:54 AM

Good call on the SS Version. I'll wait and see how long it takes for my plain plated hardware to start dissolving in front of my eyes in the GA salt air and moist heat.

Memorial Day weekend the low tide was after 5pm when the beach cleared of toddlers and most folks so we had a clear run to the shipwreck with perfect onshore winds SE 20 mph. I ran with the Flexi Rage 3.5 hooked in with strop, harken pulley block, Wichard QR. So easy in the Ivanpah. GPS batteries died but had to be 40+.

Now I just need a beverage holder and magazine rack...

awindofchange - 3-6-2010 at 10:51 AM

It's all good!!! The matt finish stainless buggy is coming out pretty good. I will try to get some pictures of it if possible. Hopefully we can have it in the UPS truck by this weekend.

The Camo buggy is a beauty for sure. As for now it is a one of a kind because the camo material is no longer available to build the seats and rails out of. Buggybags barely had enough left to kick out one more seat and rail combo - which unfortunately didn't leave enough to get a matching bag. Unless some more camo material comes available, that will be the only Ivanpah made with that color seat. The powder coating can be done again of course, but the seat color will have to be one of the solid colors that are currently being produced.

As said above, this is the first Matt/Brushed stainless buggy I have built so it has taken a little bit more work to try and get the right finish on the buggy. Not nearly as much work as the mirror polished buggies but it has still been a challenge. It is looking sweet though and I can't wait to see it all finished up and rolling!

Angus.....I will have to work on the cup holder and magazine rack for ya! LOL The Ivanpah is one of the most comfortable buggies ever. Even when just sitting around buggy town here, we sit in our Ivanpah's and lounge cuz they are more comfy than the chairs.

For the last two nights this has been Corey's tv chair in the living room

shehatesmyhobbies - 3-6-2010 at 12:18 PM

Congrats BB on your new ride.

Todd I can't wait to see Corey's new ride in action! Loving the camo and now to find it is a one off ! WOW!

acampbell - 3-6-2010 at 01:53 PM

I Like the Camo look as well. It would look good with a 50 Caliber mounted on top. That would take care of the birds better than the Roo Scarers.

One thing you have to plan for is the weight of the thing. It takes a lot of planning and prep to get it on and off the Kitemobile. Lucky for me Jekyll Island is almost finished re-building the handicap ramp to the beach because the stairs are a real #@%$#! with 95 lbs of buggy.

These bugs are not easily dismantled for storage so if you don't have a pick-up truck, a rack or trailer is the way to go. But worth the effort.

mougl - 3-6-2010 at 03:18 PM

Angus...if you are loading and unloading that thing solo ur going to look like Arnold soon!

BeamerBob - 3-6-2010 at 03:19 PM

I've already got an adult beverage arrangement with Screwyfits to help out with a hitch rack. I'll get it designed as soon as I have the buggy in the garage. Got pics today. It is really a buggy!

rando - 3-6-2010 at 05:04 PM

"For the last two nights this has been Corey's tv chair in the living room  "

I use mine for a sporty chair to play xbox......That one looks real comfortable though

shaggs2riches - 3-6-2010 at 05:38 PM

Man that does look like a comfy ride!!!! I only wish that we had the space to ride buggy round here. Only have gotten to rip in my PL XR+ bout a dozen times as our space is kinda limited. Gotta upgrade to a bigfoot some day so that I can take advantage of the grasslands 1hour south of me.

WELDNGOD - 3-6-2010 at 05:53 PM

Sweet Bug Todd:thumbup:

Todd - 3-6-2010 at 06:31 PM

Thank you for the comments about Corey's new buggy but I will apologize to Bob for hijacking his thread with the picture. My intentions were purely to elaborate on the quality of a buggy that Kent is producing. Bob, I can't wait to see some pictures of the new buggy.

BeamerBob - 3-6-2010 at 07:52 PM

Todd, you have one right now and I don't. Much better we talk about one in the flesh than one that isn't complete yet. I got pics of mine today with the downtube attached to the forks. These things are HD from front to back. Please carry on, a lively thread is a good thread.:thumbup:

BeamerBob - 4-6-2010 at 02:22 PM

Drew, I'll honor your bug just another few days I hope! Then see if I can get one of me sliding sideways at the sodfarm. Speaking of avatars, its about time to see your graduation from a jumper to a buggier. :bigok:

Drewculous - 7-6-2010 at 11:27 AM

the pic space isnt big enough.... still jump, still atb, now i bug too :puzzled:

i'll just post a pic of my phanny... its the common denominator in all of 'em ;)

BeamerBob - 7-6-2010 at 06:01 PM

Drew, you avatar is pretty awesome. Ivanpah ships in the morning.

acampbell - 7-6-2010 at 06:50 PM

Awesome news. Don't throw your back out putting it together. What will be the favored method of transport?

BeamerBob - 7-6-2010 at 07:10 PM

I'm giving up on putting it inside the vehicle except in special circumstances where I need it inside (for higher security, or pulling a trailer to our destination) and its worth the hassle of removing the rear axle. I talked to Kent today to see what others do and he says most go with a hitch mounted rack that has a horizontal bar with a cradle at each end about 2 feet from center. Put the back axle in the cradles and tilt the buggy up to strap the front fork and tire to the luggage rack crossbar. If that isn't practical, then a vertical upright that supports the downtube will be in order. I'll get something designed after I have the buggy in hand and Screwyfits says he has access to a welder and will help me out with this stuff. I'm sure this will be an ongoing process till I'm happy with the system. Some trips will be 5 minutes to a field I get to ride in near the house and then the sodfarm is 35 minutes away at interstate speeds +

mougl - 7-6-2010 at 07:34 PM

Woop Woop!! Thats awesome news BB congrats again on the new ride :wee::wee::wee:

Anxious to hear the MG vs Ivanpah comparisons!

Oh, those are inevitable and won't end soon! :singing:

Drewculous - 15-6-2010 at 06:43 AM

so... uh...

you happily riding this thing yet?

BeamerBob - 15-6-2010 at 06:55 AM

It has arrived and I have it assembled but no maiden voyage yet. I don't yet have a way to haul it and will work on that today. I intend to walk it to a field just outside my neighborhood this morning and give it a go for the first time. This thing is massive. It is around 16" wider at the rear axle and probably 18 inches longer than the FlexiLynn.. It weighs close to a hundred pounds as well. The side rails come up almost to my underarms so it should be super secure. The matte finished stainless is really nice as well. I'll take some pics of it while I have it out today at its coming out party.

WELDNGOD - 15-6-2010 at 07:06 AM

BB , if ya need any input designing your rack ,give me a shout. I have built a few of them now. Singles and doubles. The important thing is what is the tongue weight of you hitch? Do you have a 2" receiver? congrats Bro' can't wait to see it

Ahhh, I remember when Beamer and I were learning to kite together like it was just yesterday... He often lied to me-- saying things like "My quiver is full..." just to keep me from buying something he didn't have...

Shame on you Bobby, shame, shame, shame.....

I think an intervention is in order... I, for one, volunteer to take care of the Ivanpah buggy to prevent his further temptation. It's the least I could do for my oldest kiting buddy.:saint:

BeamerBob - 15-6-2010 at 08:16 AM

I have completed the 12 step (kite) program and still need more kites. I'm sure it never ends.

pokitetrash - 15-6-2010 at 09:23 AM

We're all here for you. Let it out.

WELDNGOD - 15-6-2010 at 09:32 AM

not me anymore ,gone kitin, peace out WG

indigo_wolf - 15-6-2010 at 09:37 AM

Congrats Bob.... look forward to seeing the pics as I have yet to see one in the matte finish.

ATB,
Sam

mougl - 15-6-2010 at 08:52 PM

woohoo!!! Grats BB!!! Now get to that sod farm and do work! :wee:
