Can you do a hundred pushups?

BeamerBob - 16-7-2010 at 08:57 PM

Well I can't either, but I'm doing the hundredpushups.com workout and it is making progress with me every week. Give it a look and see if you are up to it. It's free so you just have to get busy and do it. I just completed week 4 and it was a tough one for me. I've knocked on the door of week 4, day 3, four other times but got it today. My lifetime max before this thing was 20 or 25. Keep yourself motivated by posting on here what you accomplished.

Drewculous - 16-7-2010 at 09:40 PM

just tried, did 32? yay!

DAKITEZ - 16-7-2010 at 09:54 PM

This is funny, because I decided today was the day its time to try and get back into some kind of shape besides round. This morning i dusted off the weights and said its time to knock the rust off these bad boys. Then here you go and post this up. I figure this is a great way to get things kick started.

I did my initial test and was only able to knock out 15 good one's. So there is my starting point ... lets see if I can get to that 100 mark.

I have a .. what do you think moment .. for ya. I was planning on using my perfect pushup grips. You don't think that is in any way cheating do you?? I don't think they are suppose to make the pushup easier just more comfortable?? what do you think??

mougl - 16-7-2010 at 09:59 PM

I think some sort of wager is in order...

Fun wagers usually get me off my lazy (and getting large) butt.

BeamerBob - 16-7-2010 at 10:00 PM

Daktez, I laughed out loud for a while about the "some kind of shape besides round" comment.

Pokitetrash had some of those handles that pivot, and they cut my numbers in half at least. With those you are having to spend extra muscle to support and brace yourself, like the difference in using a weight bar and dumbbells. The ones that just give you a handle might give a similar penalty in performance but using that muscle gives you something in return. Try it and see how it works for you. If you feel like you're getting an advantage, then you are. If it raises your upper body, that will shift the impact lower on your chest muscle. If I make it all the way with this thing, I might go back through with the spinny handles to shift gears up a notch. I'm flat handed on carpet right now.

@mougl, if I get 100 before you, you have to tell us what the "g" is about. There's your motivation!

mougl - 16-7-2010 at 10:02 PM

the "g" really isn't that interesting

Well then, Dakitez is starting it up right now so you guys go at it then. You'll both catch me in a month or so. Weeks 5 and 6 look impossible.

mougl - 16-7-2010 at 10:57 PM

Ill start tomorrow

Maybe the final end all will be at nabx. We do the out and back run with the 100 each when we get to the turn around point

WIllardTheGrey - 17-7-2010 at 02:21 AM

Good for you hope ya make it.

I'll try the "25 pullups" when he gets it done.:cool2: Always have been good at those, but I suck at pushups.

Bladerunner - 17-7-2010 at 08:08 AM

I have a similar program that works the core + adds a bit of cardio.

I wake up each day. Spark a fatty and do 100 " Cough Ups " .

Have you got a six pack? Or are you drinking on?

BeamerBob - 17-7-2010 at 11:34 AM

It's 5 o'clock somewhere. Beer has carbs and carbs are refueling energy. Recovery here I come!

CSA, you can do it! You can thank me with a red bull next time we get together. I've not given up on that little get together up north of here in September.

highazakite - 17-7-2010 at 02:06 PM

i know in my college days i was able to do 100+ just did the test 18, so ill take it up seems simple enough and a guide and goals to follow seems a bit more to my liking.
good inspiration bob.

Hardrock - 17-7-2010 at 02:33 PM

Would it be ok if I put my feet on a table, hands on the floor?

Don't want to get to many the first time.:lol:

well back in Kwang Jang....................wtf, starting Monday..................this will help my wife with her fit test as well..................

BeamerBob - 17-7-2010 at 10:39 PM

Wow, this thing is picking up some momentum. I feel the weight of a train behind me. I can't fail now.

csa_deadon - 17-7-2010 at 11:28 PM

Bob your on. Got a four pack with your name on it. I'll even gift wrap it in my unique manner.

# Eli- Good to see you man. Missed YAKin with ya!

BigMikesKites - 18-7-2010 at 06:06 AM

Y'all must be iron men or something.
I've never been able to do 100 push ups. Push aways from the table maybe.
I was able to do 100 sit ups one time when I was in the navy and there was absolutely nothing to do or nowhere to go in submarine school. I would just hang out by my rack in a giant barracks with my headphones on to my cassette player...you know, the sony walkman. Nothing to do but situps or stare at the wall. (it was too dark to read)
10 minutes later I stared at the wall.

Later...while onboard said subarines, we had some SEAL guys onboard. They couldn't keep still. A group of us were hanging out in the torpedo room and one of them came and said....tell me when 30 minutes was up. We said here is a clock right here. 'Just tell me when 30 minutes was up' He popped down and started doing pushups. Perfect pushups for 30 minutes. We didn't count. We just sat there with our jaws open and occasionally started our conversation up while watching this guy. He could have been a blockbuster movie we were that mesmorized. After that, he did 30 minutes of situps, then after a short break (I think he went and put 30 minutes of miles on the exercise bike) he came back and did 30 minutes of dips.

After 4 days, they swam out our escape hatch at 150 feet hauling a rubber raft, outboard motor and a 'gear bag' and we never saw them again.

hooyah

I know about the silent "g". And Mougl, I'm going to stay fat and blackmail you for half of whatever you bet about this push up contest to keep my mouth shut --unless of course there's donuts and Blue Moon beer around... :piggy:

Oh, I just tried my push up max--12. Was that supposed to be all at once??? :puzzled:

Anyway, fitness is over rated. Riding a Flexi Lynn Biggi Lounger on a Phantom is almost like a Cadillac with power steering. No strength needed. Problem solved.

WIllardTheGrey - 19-7-2010 at 01:47 AM

Just did the first day of pushups and did the initial tests for situps(24) and squats(30). Now I'm just a little less sore than when I go kiting all day.

lives2fly - 19-7-2010 at 03:24 AM

I had my 6m X3 out at the weekend and it was definately trying to beat some kind of record for pullups.....

I had forgotten what a handfull oldschool C kites are! It was blowing 30mph and gusty but even so i got lofted from the zenith about 2 dozen times!

Good luck with the pushups guys i'm going to stick to the indoor climbing wall for strength training as i find it almost impossible to motivate my self to any kind of static excercise!

ragden - 19-7-2010 at 06:11 AM

Interesting program. When I was in the military, I used to do somewhere between 60 and 70 push-ups in 2 minutes. However, it has been a few years since I did any. Might be curious to give this a shot. I already swim three times a week, but this could be a good addition to that... I'm curious to try the initial test to see what I can do...

Don't try to be a he-man and do an extra 10 on your last set either. That will throw you off for days.

Congrats on your start Dino!

My Push-up Log

BeamerBob - 19-7-2010 at 12:23 PM

Just finished week 5 day 1. 2 sets of 40 in that one. 3 sets were to failure. I don't know how they figured out what the body can take.

Drewculous - 19-7-2010 at 12:58 PM

i will say because of my "lifting diet" (lots of protein) these are jacking me up... i stand up and feel like Arnold!

the squat one i'll skip... i can do a pile of 'em, i just dont count... when i taught Tae-Kwon-Do we would do card-squats... lay out 10 cards, keeping your back straight, squat, pick up the first card, move to card no 2, squat down, drop your card, stand up, squat pick up one card, squat pick up second card... move to card no 3, squat/drop 1, squat/drop 2, squat/pick up 1, squat/pick up 2, squat/pick up 3... keep going... after 10 cards... you'll know you did some squats... my best was like 30 some cards back when... i remember not being able to walk for a week... pull ups... i'll try at the gym, but those meat-heads will laugh their a$$es off at me when i try, lol... i'll get my initial tonight for situps tho... my party keg needs to go!!

mougl - 19-7-2010 at 01:36 PM

Ill start tonight....

Drew...u taught TKD?

Drewculous - 20-7-2010 at 09:44 AM

yep, till my instructor decided it was more important to bang students than teach :shocked2:

sour subject much? lol

no i taught for like 3 years and it was awesome... i was teaching for 3 hours of TKD a day, 2 hours of cardio kickboxing, and taking hour lessons... i was in damn good shape, and my students were fantastic... but alas, my instructor was/is a douchebag, and i couldnt take part in something with a reputation like that floating around... long long story... but yes. i can kick your butt, and i can still swan dive on concrete

mougl - 20-7-2010 at 10:52 AM

Ok, I'm ordering a DNA test or something...yet ANOTHER thing...

I didn't teach TKD, another style. Studied several styles, taught JKD. Before the flaming about "JKD is a philosophy and NOT a style" you are correct. It is, however we had to label the dojo in a specific style soooo grandmaster called it JKD instead of Jun Fan Gung Fu.

Drewculous - 20-7-2010 at 10:58 AM

Jeet-Kune-Do?

Nice!!

Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do was an awesome read!

Man! Wtf? did you have family in Nebraska for a while or what? My dad's dad was actually kind of a man-#@%$#! (i'm learning more and more about that story everyday).... maybe he took a few vacations to Florida?

...sorry for the thread veer BBob!.... i'll get back to the pushups... promise!!

mougl - 20-7-2010 at 11:00 AM

so it would seem! LOL

Drewculous - 20-7-2010 at 11:00 AM

you doing pushups yet mougl?

so the program says to rest a day or 2 before beginning...fine, im in LOL

Drewculous - 20-7-2010 at 11:39 AM

you learn well!
:karate:

were you just doing pushups in the verizon store?

mougl - 20-7-2010 at 11:40 AM

im off today :ninja:

Drewculous - 20-7-2010 at 11:44 AM

i can see it now

mougl: "as you can see this phone has it all, it can-"
mougl's phone: "BEEP"
mougl: "im sorry mam, the international kiting community has begun to insult my masculinity... i'm really sorry but i have to see how many pushups i can do"
irate customer: "well i never!!"
then leaves store, videos Mougl trying to do pushups through front window... and uses her new phone to post it to utube!

isnt technology great!

mougl - 20-7-2010 at 11:50 AM

LOL!!!

Either that or I'd challenge my "I'm the manliest man in the universe" boss to a push-up duel to see who gets to stay till closing.

BeamerBob - 20-7-2010 at 12:51 PM

Glad I finally hit a nerve Mougl!

The trick is to sandbag your boss! Get deep into the program and then bring up that you think you can do quite a few pushups. Then when he implies he could do more, qualify it with "but I mean real high quality pushups..........not on your knees". Then he'll take the bait. He'll do the usual 10-20 that most can do and then you bust out 40 or 50 to humiliate him and then you can go on a date/fly kites that day. :saint:

I was going to do this to my he-man cousin till I found out that on push up day (he has a push up day?! :shocked2: ) he does 500 and his first set is usually 100-125. I aborted my attempt to embarrass him and told him of my plan.

mougl - 20-7-2010 at 12:54 PM

500???

Thats impressive! But can he hold down a reactor 10.8?

BeamerBob - 20-7-2010 at 01:08 PM

I sold him my Scout 3m and he put it in a tree. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. The kite is ok btw.

Drewculous - 20-7-2010 at 01:54 PM

LMAO!!

awesome!

rocfighter - 20-7-2010 at 04:39 PM

Do you get more points for having your almost 4yr old grand daughter on your back?

BigMikesKites - 21-7-2010 at 06:02 AM

I'm in the geezer category here starting with 3 pushups and maxing at 8.

I can do more if I do 'girlie' pushups.

Drewculous - 21-7-2010 at 07:42 AM

dont do girlie-ups!! DONT!!!

lol, better to do a few the right way, than a bunch the easy(wrong) way!! Just think of the kites you could hold down with your new found strength!!

Week 1, day 2:
20,
25,
15,
15,
max: 27!

also tried the pullups on monday... got 5 of 'em (palms forward)... i suck at pull ups tho... gonna do my first set of sit-ups tonite... my initial on those was 32 as well!
squats are cakes for me so im gonna pass on those... tuesday i "leg-sledded" 450 10 times on my final set, so im not to worried bout that... pushups, pullups, and situps on the other hand, thats a challenge to me

BeamerBob - 21-7-2010 at 08:27 AM

Drew, you are on week 3! I'm wondering if I've recovered enough to hit week 5 day 2 today.

EDIT: This is in reference to your above post.

Drewculous - 21-7-2010 at 09:20 AM

i started with 32 pushups, so it started me on week 3

did you set up a logger profile? i cant find ya

so, anyway... i figured... by the time i get married, i should be able to do 100 pushups, and 200 situps based on my initial numbers, lmao! i'm hosed, lol!

WELDNGOD - 21-7-2010 at 06:13 PM

ROFL!!

BeamerBob - 22-7-2010 at 10:36 AM

Just finished Week 5 day 2. This one was easy compared to the last 2 workouts. It goes from 5 sets to 8 with a total of 185 pushups finishing up with a max set of 45 which is more than I've ever done at once. I really can't believe my body can do this.

highazakite - 22-7-2010 at 12:43 PM

thanks for the inspiration bob.. week one is well on its way and i do believe ill be able to stick to it till i can do 100 again.

Drewculous - 23-7-2010 at 10:17 AM

today's

25
25
20
20
maxed @ 27
(I forgot my schedule, so i guessed on sets... i was close, but a little short, i'll do a max test tonite to make up for it lol! see what 1 week has done for me)

total 117... im happy so far... im slackin on the pullups (still only 5 at a time) and situps tho, pushups i can do at work, the others i cant lol

good job bobby!!

WIllardTheGrey - 25-7-2010 at 02:31 PM

Wow this works, I just finished week 2 day 1 and on the last set did five more pushups than I did on the initial test.:karate: Only been at this for ten days woo hoo.

rocfighter - 25-7-2010 at 05:22 PM

I'm not procastinating (spelling) I just haven't started yet. TO DAMN HOT!!

Drewculous - 26-7-2010 at 06:54 AM

new day... topped my max by five today!!

maybe my marathon of pushups on friday helped! lol

this week looks tough tho!

wind-dave - 26-7-2010 at 09:05 AM

Thanks for the incentive guys. I'm on week 2 day 1.
I already noticed that my kayaking and disc golf skills have improved.

BeamerBob - 26-7-2010 at 09:19 AM

Week 5 day 3 down. With a new max of 50 at the end. I guess I'll do an exhaustion test in a few days to see where I stand. Then week 6 here I come.

Drewculous - 26-7-2010 at 11:56 AM

dang Bob!

way to go man... i might be able to do 50 in a row, but not after doing 5:3's workout!

Im trying to do extras at work when i can lol!

I'm really working on the pullups in the gym tho, since i can STILL only do 5.... im taking the heaviest weight i can and to 25 pulls, up the weight a plate, and try for 25, then up it again and try 25... i keep going till i can only get like 3, then drop the weight way down, and go till i cant go anymore... usually around 30... its a killer, but i think it'll help with the pullups... i used to do burnouts like thats on fridays with other exercises, and they always killed... but with good results!

Still slackin on the situps :embarrased:

arkay - 26-7-2010 at 12:18 PM

Ok, I need to see how many I can do tonight. I've never had issues with too little upper body or leg strength, but my back will give up doing situps before I do. Wonder if stropless buggying helps :)

Drewculous - 27-7-2010 at 06:36 AM

did my first day of situps last night.... i will be doing it again on wednesday! Im on week 3 day 1, 2nd tier, and i was toast at the max.... abs knotted up after the last set and i was done! so, yeah... pushups are going good, but i suck at the rest lol

WIllardTheGrey - 27-7-2010 at 02:22 PM

Just thought I would challenge my self and see how many clapping pushups I could do.

6:cool2:

I've never been able to do one without hurting my face, now I feel good.

mdntdncr - 27-7-2010 at 02:55 PM

"Would it be ok if I put my feet on a table, hands on the floor?

Don't want to get to many the first time.:lol:"

I think I'd rather put my feet on the floor and my hands on the table.
Do those count? If so, can I sit in the chair while I do them?

BeamerBob - 27-7-2010 at 03:03 PM

feet on the table works you upper chest a little more and is a little harder for most. The chair might get high numbers but low results.

As long as you dont count them! haha!
I do these "all-day" if i have a minute between customes, ill bust out a quick few on the front counter, or if i finish an order early, a few are manageable.... its the same concept as hanging a pull-up bar over your bedroom door... every time you pass, do a few, you'll get better!

macboy - 28-7-2010 at 05:47 PM

Here's our local "hero".....dude's a busker at our street festivals and...well, this is public forum so I'll hold my tongue.

Funny though...been on the "get in shape" brain for a while now and got sucked into a P90X infomercial. I think I'm gonna give it a whirl. Anyone know anything about it here? Seems intense but for only 90 days and I'll moderate the diet....might be too hardcore for my sweet tooth. I know I can be in shape underneath it all

macboy - 28-7-2010 at 05:49 PM

(And yeah...the major dispute with ^ that guy ^ is that his pushups aren't REAL pushups....you should see his one-armed pushups......my grandma could do them. (okay, exaggerating yes but still.....)

Guinness......seems there's a record for everything.

ragden - 28-7-2010 at 05:55 PM

Thats pathetic... Gives the term "beat your face" whole new meaning... I mean, when the drill sergeants in basic training told us to "beat our faces" he meant do push-ups, course if he saw this guy "pushing" he probably would have died laughing, then came back from the grave to kick his lilly white....

flyguy0101 - 28-7-2010 at 06:20 PM

@macboy- let me know how many times you throw up in the first week:D, i started and after the first week i went back and bought power 90- this is the p90x for fat, out a shape guys who are not afraid to admit it:bouncing:. I really enjoyed it until i tore my knee up kiting in june and have not been able to get it going again yet, but am really looking forward to doing it again when i can. I think i will be ready for the real deal (p90x) when i finish the first 90 days on power 90- good luck it will hurt you

awesome csa! Keep it up!

I was out of town for last weekend and missed a day. I redid week 5 day 3 to make sure I was qualified to move on. I start week 6 today.

csa_deadon - 8-8-2010 at 09:45 AM

Alright, finished week 2, did fatigue test and it's the middle colum for me. Just couldn't get that last one squeezzzzeeedd out. Still major improvement over inital test. 250% after 2 weeks. May actually have to start being nice to BB. NAW! :)

AD72 - 15-12-2010 at 10:34 PM

So it is 4 months later... who is still doing their push-ups? I am going to start this routine and do some sort of training to get ready for next season. Enough time spent on the computer.

csa_deadon - 16-12-2010 at 01:03 AM

I got hurt at work and had to stop for a bit. Need to back up again.

HELL YES! one a day, for 100 days--easy!

It was tough, but I did get it done back at the end of Oct. after two attempts. First attempt I mustered out 100, but only after stopping briefly at about 70 or so. So it didn't really count. I had meant to start back at week 5 but ended up delaying a month and went back to week 4, but decided to do col 3. After doing weeks 4,5 and 6.. all in col 3 and doing pretty much minimal rest time. Was then able to hit 101 all the way thru.

Wish I would have thought about the 100 days thing. Sure would have been a lot easier.

I hit a wall on week 6. After several strides to the finish, with life continuing to get in the way, I shifted to a gym membership. I found that the results were more profound with weight resistance. The pushups have their place and are a great way to get started on a training program so don't hesitate to give it a go. Follow up with other resistance training and the world is your oyster.

ive always gotten the best results with weights myself......add some kite cardio and good diet and that's the plan......

My pushup routine:

1- Clear living room debris field of all dog toys, loose socks and dust bunnies.
2- Empty pockets of everything heavy (phone, car keys, wallet, etc --That crap adds up man!)
3- Lower to one knee.
4- Lower to the other knee and notice the crackling sounds that knee makes that it didn't used to do.
5-Slowly and Carefully let your weight forward and be ready to be off balance because of your gut so put your hands out in the push up position which is really just a sad attempt to keep yourself from face planting.
6- take a couple moments for a breather from performing steps 1-5.
7- Extend your body the best you can, as much stomach off the ground as possible.
8-Fart from the strain.
9-Lower the rest of you to the floor.
10-Fart from the strain.
11 - Perform the best pushup you can (there's absolutely no shame if you have to do it girl style) while you fart from the strain.
12- Do your best to repeat steps 7-11 at least once more while you continue to fart from the strain of farting from the strain.
13- Decide undeniably that this whole thing blows, do your best to climb your fat ass off the ground, and go get a beer because you've earned it.

BTW, though I did no push ups today. I did about a dozen push downs. I changed a transmission in the drive of a friends house in 15f. And no tranny jack, Yup I pushdowned the tranny a few more times than I wanted to. Does this count for anything?
