And this one with a through-the-bar safety :puzzled:
The second one is the one I want, but damned if I can get a response from the occasional shop that has them!!!Kamikuza - 8-8-2010 at 11:20 PM
Actually, I'd prefer Iron Heart I but damned if I can get replies on them, either indigo_wolf - 8-8-2010 at 11:45 PM
Top one seems to be used on Ozone's Land/Snow kites.
Bottom one is used in their Water/LEI kites. The side ring is referred to in the manual alternatively as the "100% Flag Out Loop" and "Expert Leash
Ring"
Until you pointed it out I didn't realize there were two flavors as I am not that much of a waterbaby.... despite being a water sign

Yeah and it's got me paranoid of buying something based on a picture on a website and then having to go through the horse-pucky of sending it back
blah blah blah ...
... I truly need one and don't know if I can be arsed retrofitting my used Zero7 bar ... if I sell the other one, I'm tempted to buy a Nav bar :Dtridude - 9-8-2010 at 04:00 AM
whats the question on the Iron Heart 2......................It is 5th line compatable for your Flysufer............................Kamikuza - 9-8-2010 at 05:03 AM
Yeah but nobody has them ... IH3 has a double depower line and all that entails
I'll just go for the Ozone I think ...!tridude - 9-8-2010 at 05:27 AM
local shop here has the IH 2..........................$79 with taxwindzup - 9-8-2010 at 12:13 PM
Yo Kamikuza,
Not sure where you are at, so not sure who to recommend as nearest 'stocking' dealer with that item. Feel free to drop me a line if you have more
questions about the Megatron, and what options it comes in. 435-462-5303
Windzup carries full stock of standard replacement items like c-loops, leaders, line sets, trimmers, bladders, etc. for Ozone kites, and we can dial
you in to the proper replacement.
The Megatron is offered in 3 styles, with a couple accessory options:
First is the 'old' image pasted above, with the white Beal line. The white line C-loops come standard on all Ozone Snowkites (de-power foils), and
has for years. This is also the standard 'Universal' replacement C-Loop that is sold to replace previous models and on other brands. I say 'old'
image, as it shows the old style top handle (the piece above the C-loop that fits into the bar). All C-loops sold in 2010 have the larger size top
handle, with a hole molded in for a leash attachment. Old style tops can be ordered still if you prefer that, I have several here.
Second, the PU coated Megatron uses grey spectra that is covered in a protective PU sleeve. This is essentially the same as the one above, except its
a different flavor of material. You can choose to use either on any kite, they both have a long line and can be tied with a bowline to attach to any
rigging.
Third, is the longer Megatron, using PU covered line, and has a loop sewn into the end. This new 2010 Megatron is the standard replacement for the
Contact Bar.
Options: A longer and bigger C-loop, for easy unhooking, and riders who prefer a longer distance between the harness and the bar.

Brian Schenck

Kam is located in Shiga, Japan.... when he is not vacationing further south and scaring the dolphins.

Thanks Windzup! That's good to know can the PU coating be removed? Or, what I
really want to know, is does the make the line thicker than just the Amsteel etc?
No dolphins here - they hang around too long, they get eaten :wow:windzup - 10-8-2010 at 11:13 AM
The PU coating cannot be removed. At least not easily, you would likely cut into the amsteel if you did. Yes, the PU coating makes the line slightly
thicker, yet still narrow enough to slide smoothly thru most any style of bar.
Seems to be that feedback from kitesurfers is they prefer the PU coating, and land/snow kiters prefer the open Beal line. I have used both in summer
and on snow in winter, and both styles seem to work fine in any environment.
Personal choice I guess. If you prefer a thinner diameter line than I would suggest going with the white Beal line Megatron.

Kami, I have the second one you listed in stock...actually, I have both styles in stock. Kamikuza - 10-8-2010 at 06:37 PM
Bloody typical my luck, Kent - just ordered one from an Ozzie website last night
Figured I'd get a Navigator bar for the Synergys rather than dick-about trying to make something but I'll use the Megatron on the Flysurfer, which
hopefully has a slightly bigger hole through the bar ...!awindofchange - 10-8-2010 at 08:01 PM
No problem. If the Ozzie site doesnt come through for you then let me know. I also have navigators in stock.AD72 - 11-8-2010 at 11:11 PM
The standard Flysurfer chickenloop is a POS. I was having a great session on the water today until it went and flagged out the kite on the 5th line.
I struggled to get it back together in the water but ended up doing a self rescue and swimming to shore. I brought the same topic before but never
changed it out. It is a must now.
Does the IH 2 swivel? I kind of like the push away style of it better but anything is better than the existing hand grenade pull pin.Kamikuza - 12-8-2010 at 01:00 AM
Yeah I've struggled to get it back together on land ...!
After diving through the .pdf manuals, the IH doesn't swivel - that I can tell ... but the little knob above it with the microloop hook does. So I
guess the answer is - yes AD72 - 20-8-2010 at 11:12 PM
I got the Megatron and the line is about 7cm shorter. So the bar throw will be shorter and it will not be completely depowered. I could replace the
line with a bit longer one. The 5th line atatchment looks like it will work. The construction of the chicken loop looks realy sturdy. The release
is easy to activate and reattach. Did you get one Kami?Kamikuza - 21-8-2010 at 06:05 AM
Ordered and paid for ... 10 days and counting since they sent the "We put it in the mail" email :dunno: that'll learn me for not bugging the guys
here!
Damn, it's shorter? Gah that means I'm going to be hunting around for depower line too :megan: can't believe I'll have to order leader line AND
depower line from overseas!!!AD72 - 21-8-2010 at 09:04 AM
I hope so - just remembered I got some of that on a OR CL I got ...!Kamikuza - 25-8-2010 at 11:29 PM
Mine arrived today ... at long last CL looks great, nice little unit!
The beal line thing is a tube tube over the Dyneema depower line ... as it lines up on mine, the tube is too short but the Dyneema long is probably
long enough if you tie a tight knot at the trim strap.
Erm what I mean is, if you line up the FS depower line and the Ozone depower line from where the plastic bits of the CL end and the depower line
begins and compare just the line themselves ... then the black tube covers all the depower line up into the trim strap/gust absorber but you lose
about 2 inches of power pull - the swivel thing. I reckon the kite'd fly fine though, with perhaps a bit less Whee and Boing.
You can remove the tube by undoing all the hex head bolts in the plastic swivel thing (that shouldn't swivel) above the CL proper and sliding it off.
I probably going to cut the tube so it stays under the swivel thing then either thread it back onto the original Ozone line or use my OR blue Amsteel
line ...
I'm betting it'd work fine on a Zero7 bar too ... to use the PL OEM safety, get the Ozone CL with the plain swivel thing, remove it then put the PL
rotating leash attachment next to the CL then slide the swivel thing back on and you're done. Assuming the depower line is the same length ...!borntofli - 26-8-2010 at 03:28 AM
I switched out all my cl to 3/16 amsteel... They will wear out a little quicker, but how smooth it is.....Cheap and easy way to have a smooth
operating bar...Kamikuza - 26-8-2010 at 03:40 AM
Also a little thicker than the silver stuff and has a core too ... so I had to junk the tube and just put it together. Bit tough to get it through the
CL housing but got there in the end
Looks trick, works well and actually works with the bar better than the original - the FDS line isn't getting pinched any more!AD72 - 26-8-2010 at 01:20 PM
3/16" is the right size. I got some amsteel blue but it does not have the core. What line did you use or did you just keep the line that came with
it and live with it shorter. I have to finish mine off - have not had time.tridude - 26-8-2010 at 03:59 PM
nice.......................no more re ride issuesKamikuza - 26-8-2010 at 04:58 PM
Oh some other stuff someone sent with an Ocean Rodeo CL ... hmm, glad I didn't drill any holes to fit it! :oKamikuza - 21-10-2010 at 11:53 PM
Hoping that by bumping this thread I'll get KENT to check his U2u's Maven454 - 25-10-2010 at 04:28 AM
Did you get a response from Kent? I can call him for you if you like. What did you need?Kamikuza - 25-10-2010 at 04:42 AM
I need him to check his U2u's no hurry though ... the bar & kite is in a
box heading to John
Thanks Mav I'll U2u you when I need you to call Kent so I can U2u him
Kamikuza - 29-12-2010 at 02:01 AM
only took me 2 months to get the Speed2 out of the living room and to the post
office ...
Now, I need 3 Megatron CL with the old (?) PU coating and the spinning handle with the hole in it ... someone is trying to get some from Europe for me
but it looks like they can only get the beal line ones which aren't suitable ...
Anyone? Kent seems to be ignoring me AD72 - 30-1-2011 at 12:12 PM
Kami- after removing the cover over the CL line, does the 5th line move around the top of the Megatron on your Flysurfer setups? See the video I
posted earlier this month. Kitesurf Los Barriles
you can see it moving freely between the bottom of the bar as I sheet in.Kamikuza - 8-2-2011 at 07:20 AM
No ... at least, I don't think so - I used a slightly thicker depower rope ... and tightened the hex-head nuts in there. Looks like yours are just
loose ... assuming it's still the OE Beal line in there, there's a PU tubing sleeve under the spinning doohickey - tighten the nuts to clamp on that.
Looking good in there!
Say, anyone know exactly what the Beal line is? The only thing I can find on the Beal page that looks the same is the 5mm pure Dyneema line - which
only has a breaking load of 1200kg ...!
I ask cos the cored Amsteel line I made up - 5mm Amsteel Blue (2,400kg) with a 2.8mm core (730kg) - won't fit through the hole in the CL body and I
don't want to drill it out if I don't have to :DAD72 - 8-2-2011 at 12:00 PM
Thanks. That is 3/16 Amsteel blue without the PU that came with the chicken loop. I could tighten down the setscrews and give that a try or maybe
stick some sort of sleeve in there to screw against. I did not like the setscrews straight against the rope.Kamikuza - 8-2-2011 at 05:24 PM
I'm suspicious too - but I've seen it done on other bars. PL Zero7, for example ... just don't over tighten it :D
Ozone uses Beal line though, you sure it was Amsteel?tridude - 8-2-2011 at 05:32 PM
if things dont workout I can get you the IH2 locally..................................let me knowKamikuza - 8-2-2011 at 11:40 PM
I already got three of them in a box sitting in the living room ... waiting for me to decide what to do with the Beal line thanks anyway though, Tri!
I guess 300kg x4 lines is 1200kg ... and that'd be like a 10G yoink to break the depower line ...Kamikuza - 9-2-2011 at 06:10 AM
.... looks like I get to have my cake and eat it too :D
If you're canny and taper the 5mm Amsteel just right, you can get it through the hole on the CL body, then fid and pull the 2.8mm through, pull the
lot through the body then stitch the ends, knot it and voila! DIY Silverline!
And if you grunt'n'groan a lot, you can feed the PU sleeve (from under the spinning hander) down the whole lot and have the spinning handle securely
seated and not mangling the line ... gravy! I'm sure there's an easier way to get the sleeve down, I'll try to figure it out when I'm more awake!
