Show your buggy site

rtz - 6-11-2010 at 09:05 PM

Here is our current primary site. We have yet to find another site. This one measures(using Google Earth measurement tool) about 400' long and 300' wide. Not so big, but it's flat, mowed grass, and at a lake so the wind is good.

Nice spot! Is that a yacht club? More wind addicts! I buggy on the shore of Lake Ontario in upstate NY. This should link you to it.

bobalooie57 - 6-11-2010 at 09:47 PM

Nice club, are you a member? Lots of races going on there. The sailors I meet on the shore of L. Ontario while I'm buggying think it is so cool. Do you get a positive reaction while buggying there?

rtz - 6-11-2010 at 10:02 PM

I'm not a member. We get a lot of people who stop by and ask questions.

ripsessionkites - 7-11-2010 at 01:35 AM

thats a great race course .... :wee:

bigkid - 7-11-2010 at 01:42 AM

Ours is a park in Redmond, WA. called Marymoor Park. One of many spots at the park, any wind is good wind.

this field has become my new playground. flew there for the first time last week.

rocfighter - 7-11-2010 at 05:57 AM

We head down to Hamonasset state park on the Long Island sound. Not real smooth and sometimes the wind is not terrible.
I'm sure some one can link it up. As most know I'm comp. illiterate!!

cheezycheese - 7-11-2010 at 06:05 AM

hey Roc my site is five mins from RT84/Taconic pkwy exit... how long a ride for you...?

shehatesmyhobbies - 7-11-2010 at 06:05 AM

If I could figure out how to post up my local spot I would!

edit: BTW I put Roc's spot on the kitespot site I've been using, but it has to go through the administrator before I can link to it.

shehatesmyhobbies - 7-11-2010 at 07:41 AM

I give up , I can't figure it out! See fixed post a couple down! Thanks Bob!

rtz - 7-11-2010 at 07:45 AM

Just post the other link option it gives you. The shorter one.

bobalooie57 - 7-11-2010 at 07:55 AM

Is this your spot, Rich? http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.276063,-75.578118&ie=UT...

Here is Jekyll Island, GA....

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en-GB&ie=UTF8&q=jekyl...

The the beaches of the lower 5+ miles of this 7.5 mil long island can be ridden at lower tides. It is all public beach (state park) and we have kite-friendly local government.

[plug] This will be the site of the Jekyll Island Buggy Expo (JIBE), May 18-21, 2011. [/plug]

Most of the beach is wider than a football field at lower tides. Georgia State Patrol, Fire/ Rescue and maintenance crews are all trained not to run over kite lines. This is the only place I know where you can buzz the state police vehicle and out-run them without being arrested. (they kind of get a kick out of it)

The southern-most couple of miles are largely empty of people even at peak season on weekends and the entire 5+ miles to the shipwreck are navigable off season, esp. weekdays.

"OOBE Field" Beech Island, Sc. Huge polo complex. Came to be called OOBE Field because if you fly there you WILL eventually be yanked out of your buggy because of the gusty inland winds.

rocfighter - 7-11-2010 at 07:03 PM

Cheesy I think your spot would be about 1.5-2 hours away. Not sure haven't been that way in a few years.

bobalooie57 - 7-11-2010 at 08:06 PM

Here's a link to the airport I get to ride at sometimes. Best with a NW or WNW wind.

bobalooie57 - 7-11-2010 at 08:10 PM

Don't know why the maps say it's in Vermont/New Hampshire, it's obviously in NY!

bobalooie57 - 7-11-2010 at 08:12 PM

This should get you to Roc's spot, Hammonasset Beach. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=hammonasset+beach+st...

John Holgate - 7-11-2010 at 08:42 PM

Some good spots there - can't seem to get Jekyl island up though - all I get is a map of north America. Where everybody drives on the wrong side of the road!

Here's a link to Sandy Point - it's a 4 hour drive from here, (on the right side of the road  hmmm....or should that be left...) but if the winds are onshore for a couple of days then it's worth the drive cos it's just stunning. There's a pic of .Joel on a 4.4m reactor II out towards the spit. (my current screen saver) Sandy Point

2 of my 4 or so obe's were right there riding with Pokite. Usually at or below walking speed. Awesome site though. It's fun searching for where the wind is best.

Great spot for a west wind, which we tend to get a lot of, unfortunately it's also a soccer field, and we all know how that goes.

I used to live close to there, near 122nd & Penn. I wasn't kiting when I lived in Oklahoma though. My father still lives in the area and sometimes flies stunt kites over at Hefner.

No, no. We drive on the right side of the road. See you drive on the left side of the road, which since it isn't the right side must be the wrong side!
