Just saw it posted on FB page as well!!

markite - 23-11-2011 at 07:22 AM

Great news - is the date correct though - contest on until Dec. 21, 2012 - that would put everything off by another year.
I'll shoot off an email to VO boys.

erratic winds - 23-11-2011 at 07:34 AM

Ah, gotta be on facebook to enter. Booooo.

Best of luck to the entrants, looking forward to seeing the name.

lad - 23-11-2011 at 07:55 AM

I have dibs on:

"The Phantom Too, Eventually"

(also, "The Situation" and it's eventual followup, "The Conundrum!")

AD72 - 23-11-2011 at 08:53 AM

Good news. It is the end of the year though..... so does that mean LEIs will be unveiled on New Years Eve?

g00fba11 - 23-11-2011 at 08:56 AM

I put in my 2 cents worth for the new twinskin name.....

PL EPIC

Epic history
Epic Kite
Epic Sessions
Epic Fun

lamrith - 23-11-2011 at 10:00 AM

I put a few names in..
LEI - The Evolution or the Tubular
Snowkite - The Whiteout, the Snowman, the Yeti (Could envision a white kite with eyes of different color for the sizes..)

g00fba11 - 23-11-2011 at 11:02 AM

Wow..... Phree is looking for a new kite.....

markite - 23-11-2011 at 11:40 AM

Using the thesaurus and then mix and match on word jumble programs you could come up with thousands of words (but how many actually apply to the spirit of the kites target use). It'll be interesting to see how this works out without a lot of rules. Because it doesn't say anything about the first person to write a name anyone could simply copy all the names already written down - this could get out of control really fast. Fun to see some of the names though, a few really different ones especially when they are coming from different languages.

PHREERIDER - 23-11-2011 at 12:44 PM

oh what phun! words and letters are like phountain in head

markite - 23-11-2011 at 12:57 PM

oaky I just had to laugh at one recent post " how about animal names ...... goat....."

goat! that was funny

It looks like a lot of people haven't bothered to read the brief on picking a name that reflects the spirit of the kite, the company etc. There are a lot of words getting churned out and some are already, or have been, names of kites out there

fencepost, gravy, whatever rhymes with orange... I really gotta stop watching the list grow :bouncy:

tridude - 23-11-2011 at 01:01 PM

submitting "pumper" for the LEI..........................Peter Lynn Pumper hmmmmm not bad:lol::lol::duh:

lamrith - 23-11-2011 at 01:12 PM

Mark - I believe they are only taking names from the facebook page. So those are date/time stamped ;-)

Donaldgould - 23-11-2011 at 03:54 PM

Snowkite - The Whiteout, the Snowman, the Yeti (Could envision a white kite with eyes of different color for the sizes..)

GIN's snow kite is called the Yeti.

lamrith - 23-11-2011 at 04:05 PM

Bah Good call Donald, I spaced on that one!! I like whiteout better anyways..

pyro22487 - 23-11-2011 at 04:20 PM

GIN's snowkite is the Yeti. Sorry for the double post after talking with someone he told how to do it this way

g00fba11 - 23-11-2011 at 05:40 PM

PL Arrogant

Would cover any of the PL offerings......

Get Arrogant!!!

At Peter Lynn we believe that pandering to please the appeal of the masses with another
brainless, cookie cutter concoction would be an insult to the senses.

We brazenly challenge you to fly the best and experience the freedom of taking the path others avoid.

Get Arrogant.... fly the best..... experience the sensation..... there is no turning back........

Were there any guidelines on number of submissions? I found it kind of quirky that nothing was stipulated either way.

Either 1 submission per category or "Submit early, Submit often!!" :wee:

Awesome Sam...... get it on PL's facebook page and "like" the page to qualify.....

I think that was one of the how to enter dialogs.......

shaggs2riches - 23-11-2011 at 08:42 PM

I entered..... LEI:Condor, FOIL:Spartan, TWINSKIN:Zeppelin. There will be so many posts though, I can't see it being easy to pick a winner. I agree that there should be only one post per kite, per person. Some people look to be tossing in as many words as they can per post.

AD72 - 23-11-2011 at 10:17 PM

I added Defiant. A good friend of mine has a brewery that has the same philosophy challenging the norm.

PL folks requested to save up names and post as many as think of in one post.. challenge is you need to get your name in before someone else does...

dandre - 24-11-2011 at 04:59 AM

LEI PL Tempest, Foil Ikarus, Twin Shadow

markite - 24-11-2011 at 11:21 AM

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, the list from yesterday was accidentally deleted and it's a new list started again. There is a post below the thread apologizing and adding a few wind meters to the prize pool. It was funny that i just added some names, hit reply, they were there - refreshed and then it wouldn't load the page and all was gone a couple of minutes later.
Stuff happens, pages get deleted, kites go in trees ....

I like Tempest. Reminds me of the Pontiac that was the original GTO.

AD72 - 24-11-2011 at 11:00 PM

oops Best came out with a Tempest kite.

Feyd - 25-11-2011 at 04:44 AM

I think that you will find that if you google a name with the word "kite" afterwards you will find that a lot of names have already been used. Many on 2 line stunt kites apparently.

I've always been partial to military aircraft names myself. Corsair, Mustang, Falcon, Phantom......

PHREERIDER - 25-11-2011 at 08:16 AM

what happen to all the post?

lamrith - 25-11-2011 at 08:29 AM

Phree, they put up a post yesterday, some how they goofed and deleted the original post and have asked everyone to re-submit

markite - 25-11-2011 at 08:35 AM

an error by one of our friends at VO - apparently after he found out he got someone pregnant (that references a different post on f.b.). If you see the message below the thread with all the file names - look for the wind meter, it explains the mistake but some people have started posting names under that comment as well.

An excellent example of how poor a service FB is to 'run a contest' as it's not designed for such an application. That said, OH MAN OH MAN when will the kites be released?!?!?

Krug's got me really stoked for a go on the phanny2!

PHREERIDER - 25-11-2011 at 10:32 AM

people are reposting names i submitted on WED!

what is going on!

A clusterF***, just like every other FB contest.

AD72 - 25-11-2011 at 12:04 PM

Product naming is not an easy task. I would bet that a majority of the names submitted have been trademarked already. Note the adverts for the Verizon "Droid" phone state trademark licensed by Lucasfilm Ltd. Lucas owns "Droid" and variations of usage of droid.

markite - 25-11-2011 at 01:01 PM

Not only are many names already names of kites out on the market but there are a a few that are names of other current PL kites or some previous versions (Twister, Impulse, Vortex, Venom, Reactor, Rebble, even Chikara) - so that tells you many are not even aware of the Peter Lynn brand as whole to begin with.
Then names like Haka, Yakuza, Razor (Ozone)....why not just call the snow kite a Frozone Freezie, that probably isn't even close to anything out there ;-)

I don't mind watching the name game, just too bad release dates don't coincide with our optimal times of year to use the kites. LEIs coming out as winter starts here and winter kites coming out when spring surf season starts. But bottom line, new things look like they are coming out over the coming months so that's good news.

AD72 - 25-11-2011 at 02:27 PM

Carvel Ice cream had the best names. Cookie Puss and Fudgie the Whale. For St. PatricS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s day they had Cookie o' Puss..

I had the same impression on the timing. Springtime release for a winter kite? Back in June I was hesitant on buying a new 9m because I was waiting for the LEI to come out then. If the LEI is coming out the end of this year, wouldn't they have the names and graphics already??

markite - 25-11-2011 at 05:41 PM

a few more that make me laugh:

plift, ploop, plopper, the kafoom - I'm just hearing public bathroom

and then - "tent peak" maybe it translates differently?

any guesses on how many posts by the time the contest closes

The more I think of names the more I like " the Peter Lynn Pumper " !

You should really re-submit that one !

tridude - 25-11-2011 at 07:11 PM

I did BR.................I was thinking Orbiter as well...................

Taper123 - 26-11-2011 at 02:51 PM

Might not be good for marketing... but my twinskins are "Globalist". I've flown them in multiple countries. They fly wether on land, water, or anything in between. Yet to meet a PL advocate not willing to travel to fly, or fly when they get there to travel.

shortlineflyer - 26-11-2011 at 02:57 PM

I given this a lot of thought, and after reading some of the submissions I think it should be called the "CHEEZY":P:D

kitedelight - 26-11-2011 at 06:01 PM

couldn't help but notice the use of plurals, ie, not kite, but kites
" Leading edge inflatable kites will be introduced towards the end of the year, snowkites will be introduced towards the spring of 2012 "

i doubt there is anything to it, is there? I can't see a company coming out with more that one kite of each type right away. I mean, they already have 3 kites to be released in fairly short succession if those timelines are right.

and the really fast version is the Cheeze Whiz!

oh man, the Wizz! I gotta add that one now :-)

lamrith - 26-11-2011 at 06:32 PM

Well they will be making more than just a single piece? plus also factor in numerous sizes of each model..

pyro22487 - 26-11-2011 at 09:20 PM

I was wondering about the foil is it a F.B. or a depower? Is it a race kite or a Beginner? Some of my questions. Or is it going to be several foil style kites?

" just too bad release dates don't coincide with our optimal times of year to use the kites. LEIs coming out as winter starts here and winter kites coming out when spring surf season starts. "

ya, timing seems backwards for us...pretty much okay for the southern hemisphere though. Wonder if they expect to sell more kites down south.

Snow: Entropy, Twinskin: Nomad or Traveler, LEI: Instigator

BeamerBob - 10-12-2011 at 03:53 PM

I like "Nomad".

shaggs2riches - 10-12-2011 at 08:54 PM

Cabrinha has a Nomad already, but agree that it sounds better on a foil/twinskin kite.

Donaldgould - 10-12-2011 at 10:19 PM

Some of thee name are coming up with great names. ya there are old kite that might have these names but think about it like this . If the name fits the kite why not try it .Peter Lynn makes a charger twinskin and Naishkites makes a charger LEI
