Pretty cool.....

His kids/grandkids are going to have a lot to live up to...

"Why, when I was your age..."

To be honest the seaglider in HAH's thread looks more plausible... Can't just be air in the leading struts, also no way to ensure any fore and aft stability...

lamrith - 21-3-2012 at 05:33 AM

sweeeeeet

PHREERIDER - 21-3-2012 at 06:02 AM

very hard to see the CG , as FURB mentions, controlling that much surface area would be tedious and a flip DOWN in an instance would be lethal

would a hill and some breeze be a little helpful?

forward speed/apparent wind seems too slow for mass and avg human foot speed

i'm calling fake

dandre - 21-3-2012 at 06:21 AM

as soon as I saw motion blurr before takeoff I called fake.

mougl - 21-3-2012 at 06:29 AM

I'm with Phree on this...I call bogus

pokitetrash - 21-3-2012 at 08:10 AM

I call B.S. Too. No horizantal stab capability, nose over = very ugly faceplant.

furbowski - 21-3-2012 at 08:18 AM

It starting to go viral a few other places, run across it twice more in a lazy evening of surfing wind-related stuff on line. Apparently he's got something sewn in between his legs for stability, something kinda like what you might find on a wingsuit, (btw wingsuit proximity basejumpers are inSANE!) but the wings just don't look right to me.

lad - 21-3-2012 at 08:21 AM

A very elaborate hoax?...even (phony?) media coverage on his blog?
Quite a send-up.
Must be a Trust-Fund Kid! ;)

MikeDobbs - 21-3-2012 at 09:05 AM

I'm with Phree- any Cartalk fans out there?

Bo-o-o-o-o-gus!

...though it sure would be cool :ninja:

cheezycheese - 21-3-2012 at 09:07 AM

Made me think of Spidey's ole nemesis 'the Vulture'...

lad - 21-3-2012 at 09:10 AM

Those flappy pumpy wings don't compare to what was needed on the Gossamer Condor! ("stop pedaling...stop pedaling...pull left!!!!") :tumble:

As noted this has been popping up on forums all over the place and as kite fliers many of us can't believe how easily people think this has any sense of being real -it is well done but come on, look it at from a kite flier point of view, there is now way he's flying. There are many things that that right away point to fake - anyone truly think this is real? We are still two weeks away from April 1st it's good entertainment.

bobalooie57 - 21-3-2012 at 09:15 AM

He sure went to a lot of trouble to make a wish seem possible. He should have learned something from Icarus...

pyro22487 - 21-3-2012 at 09:15 AM

In the video when he takes off There is a buzzing noise. Like a chainsaw it can be heard on the actual flight. So I am thinking it may have an engine to help get you off the ground. The jerky looking flying though at .25 is kinda odd looking.

bobalooie57 - 21-3-2012 at 09:19 AM

If you go through his series of videos, you will see that the "wings" are motor driven, steel re-inforced, wii controller controlled through his smart phone accelerometer. Doesn't say where he keeps the batteries, though...

I just noticed the other videos.
Hey anyone know of a place to get this translated.

markite - 21-3-2012 at 10:00 AM

there is far more wrong with it other than the buzzing noise - just look at the wings, think about kites, hang gliders, shape/lift and weight on a wing when it's under load. This ranks up there with running fast to run on top of water, super slide to goes hundreds of feet into a tiny inflatable pool, jumping with a kite from the roof of one building to another..... well done but so many things that are implausible as far the flight dynamics.

BeamerBob - 21-3-2012 at 10:04 AM

Anyone notice the tire tracks along his path when he was "landing"? No way he got that altitude by just flapping those long wings with his non Mr Olympia chest.

markite - 21-3-2012 at 10:45 AM

the engineers at Univ of Toronto created the first flapping wing human powered ornithopter that did a sustained flight a year ago. It needed a tow up before starting the flapping wing which was driven again through a complex bicycle drive to warp the 105 ft wingspan. Here is a link to that flight and other info
